[Poll] Should Samsung keep the Bixby key on the Galaxy Note 10?

Image
When Samsung launched Bixby with the Galaxy S8 back in 2016, the company's virtual assistant didn't do much. Well, it was certainly capable enough for a newly launched virtual assistant, but Bixby's voice functionality didn't debut for a few months after the Galaxy S8 went on sale, and when it did, it only had support for US English. That made the dedicated Bixby key a major point of contention for many users, who wondered why their flagship phone had an extra button that didn't offer any benefit. It didn't help that the Bixby key couldn't be reassigned to launch a different app, with Samsung actively disabling third-party hacks that made remapping the button possible , nor could it be disabled completely. But perhaps the heavy-handed approach was important for Samsung. With a long press of the home button assigned to Google Now (now called Google Assistant), Samsung needed a way to make consumers aware of its own virtual assistant, and a physical key wa

Advanced in-app billing: handling alternative purchase flows

Image
Posted by Oscar Rodriguez, Developer Advocate When designing and developing an app or game, at some point you may ask yourself if you want to monetize it. If you choose to do so by selling products via Google Play, you will most likely have a store screen that shows available items for sale, and use the Google Play Billing Library to display dialogs that allow your users to complete their purchase. While there is a more detailed explanation in the documentation and in the Billing Library TrivialDrive samples , the general flow is as follows: Call the launchBillingFlow() method from the UI thread to launch the Google Play purchase dialog. If the purchase was successful, Google Play calls the onPurchasesUpdated() method to deliver the result of the purchase operation. If your app has a server, we strongly recommend that you verify the purchase from your server by using the Subscriptions and In-App Purchases API . Acknowledge the purchase either with consumeAsync()

I don’t think Samsung should launch multiple Galaxy Note 10 variants

Image
Numerous leaks and rumors suggest that the Galaxy Note 10 will consist of at least two versions of the same device. We're not talking about different storage options, but key hardware differences between these versions , known so far as the standard and "Pro" models. One such key difference might be that expandable storage could become a Pro feature . This will make the Note 10 the first device in the history of the series to go against what I call the "no compromise" philosophy. I think this might be a mistake, or at least that it might be too early for Samsung to change this particular philosophy which, in my opinion, has become a part of the series' identity. The Galaxy Note series has always been about offering the best possible hardware and software experience, without compromise. And more to the point at hand, there always has been a "no thought" process behind the purchase of a Galaxy Note phone. Truth be told, Samsung fans – our reader

Latest Galaxy S10 update adds vibration feedback for navigation gestures

Image
The Galaxy S10 's June 2019 security update brings a neat little addition that fans of One UI's navigation gestures will love. Samsung introduced navigation gestures as a built-in feature on Android Pie , allowing users to have more of the screen available for use inside apps by hiding the standard Android navigation bar. And once the latest update is installed, Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ owners will notice that the device vibrates every time they go back, go to the home screen, or access the recent apps screen using the navigation gestures. Having vibration enabled for the gestures is very handy, as the feedback will help you be sure you actually used a gesture properly. It's one of those things you wish Samsung had thought of from the very start, but it's good to see the company is doing the needful with a software update. In fact, Samsung has been actively making improvements to the Galaxy S10's software experience with updates , especially when it comes to the

Latest Galaxy Buds update improves streaming and phone call quality

Image
You'd certainly want to get the latest Galaxy Buds update that Samsung has rolled out today. Samsung has been releasing substantial updates for the Galaxy Buds almost every month. Samsung working on larger, 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab Active (Pro)

Image
Samsung appears to be working on a 10.1-inch iteration of the Galaxy Tab Active. The previous versions of the rugged tablet were equipped with an 8-inch screen. The bigger tablet might hit markets under the Galaxy Tab Active Pro moniker. Earlier this month, Samsung took some time to file trademark applications for the name Galaxy Tab Active Pro all across the globe. More recently we even speculated that that tablet may be hiding under the recently leaked SM-T545 model code . Now, the third piece of information just might complete the puzzle. 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab Active Pro According to  GalaxyClub , Samsung is working on a 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab Active variant. This would make it a significant step up, size-wise, from the earlier Tab Active models. Though there is no definitive confirmation, such a bigger-screened Tab Active could very well be released as a 'Pro' variation, thus explaining Samsung's recent trademark spree. Whether the 10.1-inch Tab Active is indeed t

Exclusive: Samsung is already working on the Galaxy Watch Active 2

Image
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch Active alongside the Galaxy S10 in February this year . The fitness-focused smartwatch succeeded the Gear Sport with a new and improved design as well as enhanced functionality. The company's wearables department is busy working on new products. We exclusively confirmed a detail about the Galaxy Watch 2 just last week. We can now confirm that there is indeed a new Galaxy Watch Active 2 in development. Galaxy Watch Active 2 is in development As mentioned in our Galaxy Watch Active review , we quite liked the design changes that Samsung introduced with it. The Galaxy Watch Active ditched the rotating bezel to become lighter and more compact. The end product is one that's extremely comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Yes, the rotating bezel came in handy when navigating through the UI, but the side-swiping system UI could still easily be navigated with taps on the display. Our sources tell us that Samsung is sticking to the

New Galaxy Fold reportedly has an 8-inch display with S Pen

Image
Samsung hasn't even released the first-generation Galaxy Fold and already there's a report about its successor. A Korean news outlet is reporting that Samsung's new Galaxy Fold will feature an 8-inch display with S Pen support. This device is expected to arrive early next year. The company itself hasn't said anything about a Galaxy Fold successor at this point in time. It hasn't even confirmed when the Galaxy Fold, which was due to come out in April, is going to be released. It would certainly be best to take this with a grain of salt for now. New Galaxy Fold reportedly has 8-inch display with S Pen The report claims that Samsung is working on the second-generation Galaxy Fold which features a larger 8-inch internal display and has S Pen support . It retains the same in-folding form factor as the first-generation Galaxy Fold. The company has reportedly asked its component suppliers to make S Pen parts for the new foldable smartphone. It doesn't mention

Galaxy Note 10 may mirror its screen and send text messages to PCs

Image
The seamless sync of text messages between their phone and computer is something that Apple's customers have long enjoyed. That's the advantage of Apple owning both iOS and macOS. Users with Android devices have to rely on third-party services to get the same functionality. For example, you can open WhatsApp in a browser window to send and receive messages as long as your phone is connected to the internet. Samsung is reportedly going to take this one step further with the Galaxy Note 10. It will be able to deliver texts and notifications to your PC in real time. Not only that, it will also be able to mirror its entire screen on your PC while also providing drag-and-drop access to content like photos and videos. Galaxy Note 10 to come with Microsoft's Your Phone app pre-installed This isn't something that Samsung is building from scratch. The report claims that Samsung will ship the Galaxy Note 10 with Microsoft's Your Phone app. Announced last year, Your Phon

Galaxy A90 could arrive with Snapdragon 855, ‘exclusive tilt OIS’

Image
The Galaxy A90 was expected to be the first mid-range Galaxy smartphone with 5G connectivity , but it looks like the A90's specs could make it spill over into flagship territory, at least as far as the silicon under the hood is concerned. According to Twitter leakster OnLeaks , the Galaxy A90 will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, the same one that powers the Galaxy S10 in markets like the US and China. The Snapdragon 855 will apparently power both the LTE and 5G Galaxy A90 variants, and the 5G variant will feature an "exclusive Tilt OIS tech." Optical image stabilization finally returning to Galaxy A lineup? It's unclear what "tilt OIS" means, but it's good to see that optical image stabilization will finally be making a comeback to Samsung's mid-range phones. Well, the Galaxy A90 will be a flagship-like device, so we guess it is more accurate to say that OIS is making a comeback to the Galaxy A lineup. But until we get more details, it

T-Mobile Galaxy S10 5G release date has been confirmed

Image
Many were looking forward to finding out the T-Mobile Galaxy S10 5G release date and the wait ends for them today. Magenta has formally confirmed when it will start selling Samsung's first 5G smartphone on its network. T-Mobile joins the likes of Verizon and Sprint in selling the Galaxy S10 5G . The handset was exclusive to Verizon initially but has since arrived on Sprint as well. AT&T is selling it too but only to developers and business customers. T-Mobile Galaxy S10 5G release date The Galaxy S10 5G is Samsung's first 5G smartphone. It came out in South Korea initially and has done well there. Samsung has sold more than one million units of the 5G variant in under three months. The company is also working with carrier partners across the globe to bring it to more markets. The Galaxy S10 5G is gradually becoming available as carriers flip the switch on their mobile 5G networks. It's being rolled out in places like Germany ahead of the networks going live .

Samsung should be quicker with unique devices like the Galaxy A80

Image
Pop-up cameras are slowly but surely becoming the most common solution for truly bezel-less displays on smartphones. There are a handful of devices with pop-up cameras on the market at the moment, and devices like the Oppo Find X went a slightly different route by opting for a sliding mechanism that reveals the front-facing camera when you want to take a selfie and goes back in when you're done. A sliding mechanism is what Samsung chose as well, but the Korean firm went a step further and also opted for a rotating camera assembly on the Galaxy A80 , its first smartphone with an Infinity display without notches or cutouts. A rotating camera mechanism was employed by Oppo years ago (with the Oppo N1), and it's a pretty neat idea at the end of the day, as it allows you to use the high-quality rear camera setup for selfies. However, I feel Samsung needs to move a lot faster than it is moving right now with these experimental devices. The Galaxy A80 was supposed to go on sale

Galaxy Fit and Fit e fitness wearables launched in India

Image
Samsung has launched the Galaxy Fit and Fit e  ( review ) duo in India. Both new smart fitness wearables were announced back in February alongside the Galaxy S10 smartphones. The affordable bands come with improved fitness tracking features and lightweight designs. Price and specifications The Galaxy Fit sports a 0.95-inch full color AMOLED display and comes with 2MB RAM and 32MB storage. The device houses a 120 mAh battery with NFC wireless charging support. It supports notifications for new messages and voice calls from your phone and also has reply functionality. The band also syncs the Do Not Disturb setting of your phone. The Galaxy Fit e, on the other hand, gets a smaller 0.74-inch PMOLED display and also packs a smaller 70 mAh battery. While the Fit e does support notifications from your phone, you cannot respond to them. Both devices have military-grade durability and are water resistant up to 50 meters. The fitness bands can track activities such as walking, running,

Samsung may launch a 6.7-inch clamshell foldable smartphone next year

Image
It was reported soon after the Galaxy Fold was unveiled that the company was working on other foldable smartphones as well. This made it clear that the Galaxy Fold wouldn't be a one-off device. At least two new models are believed to be in the pipeline. A report out of South Korea claims that one of them will have a clamshell-like form factor. It would mean that this would be a vertically foldable smartphone. This device is said to feature a 6.7-inch OLED display and may arrive at some point next year. Samsung's next foldable smartphone could be cheaper An earlier report from Bloomberg had claimed that Samsung had created mock-ups of a vertically folding phone and was in the process of fine-tuning the design. The device was also said to have an extra screen on the outside. Today's report describes a device that's quite similar to the one that was talked about previously. The 6.7-inch OLED panel will fold around a horizontal axis, much in the way that clamshel
