August & Alarms.com Team Up On New Smart Lock App Features

Smart lock maker August Home has now announced a new partnership with Alarm.com which it claims will make locking and unlocking doors to a home both a lot easier and more secure. For those who may not be aware, Alarm.com is a U.S-based company that offers cloud-based security solutions in partnership with security panel suppliers such as DSC, Interlogix, Nortek, and Qolsys. This new partnership ties Alarm.com's services together with August's own connected door locks, adding the latter company's smart locks to the devices supported by Alarm.com. That opens up tons of possibilities when it comes to controlling how and when those smart locks secure or unlock an entryway. Not least among those new features is August integration with Alarm's "Scenes."

Scenes allow for multiple August locks to be interacted with simultaneously, along with other supported devices on that ecosystem. By way of example, using the associated app to set a "secure" scene might lock the doors to a home, while also arming alarms, triggering lights to turn off or on, and starting surveillance. A similar scene could also be enabled when it's bedtime or those systems could be disabled automatically once when a homeowner arrives at home. The integration brings far more than that to the table, however, thanks to new features being added to the smartphone apps for both Alarms.com and August. Locks can be set to secure a home or disable at a specific time following the tap of an Auto-Lock feature. Users can also set up location-based lock reminders or lock doors remotely at the tap of a button. Moreover, the integration allows for any unexpected activity, such as door locks being deactivated at unusual or unexpected times, to trigger app notifications.

As per the announcement, the features should be available starting June 19 to anybody who happens to own locks made by August Home and other systems associated with Alarms.com. With that said, it's worth pointing out that these are app-based updates and that means there's likely a roll-out associated with the new features. Since those can take several days to complete, it shouldn't come as too big of a shock if the updates haven't arrived just yet.
