How to fix an LG V35 ThinQ smartphone that cannot detect SD card [Troubleshooting Guide]

The LG V35 ThinQ supports microSD card types for extra storage. All you need is to find the right SD card for your phone, mount it then start saving files. SD cards are often utilized as tangible backup storage media in mobile devices. Yet, there are instances when a smartphone just couldn't read or detect the SD card.

There are different reasons as to why a smartphone cannot detect or read a microSD card. Invalid file format, incompatible SD card, dislodged SD card, application error, and worst, the SD card is damaged or corrupted. Often times, the problem is attributed to a software error. Highlighted in this post are generic solutions you can try on, should you encounter a similar issue on your LG V35 ThinQ smartphone, which cannot detect or read the SD card. First solution: Restart/soft reset your LG V35 ThinQ.

If this is the first time your phone failed to read the SD card, it's possibly just due to a random application error. To clear such errors, performing a soft reset or device restart should be enough to deal with the problem. To do so, simply turn your LG V35 ThinQ off and then back on again. Here's how:

1. Press and hold the Power/Lock button on the back of the phone.
2. Select Power off option.

Third solution: Remove and reseat the SD card on your LG V35 ThinQ.

Make sure that the SD card is not loose because your device won't be able to detect it if it's dislodged. Before you remove the SD card from your phone, it's recommended to unmount it first. 5. Examine the card and tray for any visible signs of damage like scratches or dents. If there's none, place the SD card back into the correct card slot with gold contacts facing down and the notched edge on the upper left.
6. Gently press the SD card in until it clicks into place. Make sure both the SD card and SIM card are properly secured in their respective slots.
7. Insert the SIM & microSD tray back into the phone and make sure it's locked.

Once the tray is secured in place, turn on your phone and see if it already reads the SD card as intended. If it still failed to read or detect the SD card, move on to the next possible solution.

Fourth solution: Boot into Safe Mode then insert the SD card.

Booting your LG V35 ThinQ in safe mode can help rule out app errors from the underlying causes. Only stock apps and preinstalled services are allowed to run in safe mode. If your phone is able to detect or read the SD card while in safe mode, then a third-party app is the culprit. Here's how to enable safe mode on your new LG smartphone:

1. While your LG V35 ThinQ is turned on, press and hold down the Power key for a short while or until the menu options appear.
2. Select Power Off then Restart in Safe Mode.
3. Tap OK on the Safe Mode prompt to continue.

This however will delete all your critical data from the SD card. Should you wish to continue, follow these steps to format the SD card on your LG V35 ThinQ:

1. From the Home screen, navigate to Apps-> Settings-> Storage & USB menu.
2. Tap SD card.
3. Tap the Menu icon (three vertical dots) on the upper right.
4. Tap Settings from the given options.
5. Select Format.
6. Tap Erase & Format.
7. Your device will then start erasing your SD card. All files you saved on the card will be deleted. Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to complete the SD card formatting process.

Alternatively, you can format the SD card on your computer. You will need to use a card reader and SD card formatting software to proceed. If you're using a Windows PC, then you can use the built-in formatting software offered in the Windows package. While its features might be limited, it's still useful.

When the SD card is formatted completely, restart your phone then try to mount the SD card again. Your phone should now be able to read the card.

Other options

Among the last-ditch solution to consider if the problem persists or your LG V35 ThinQ still cannot detect or read the SD card would be a factory data reset or master reset. This might be necessary and most likely the key to fixing the problem if some tough bugs and malware are to blame. All your files will be deleted in the process, thus it's optional. Should you wish to take a chance, be sure to back up all your important contents for safekeeping. Then you can reset your LG V35 ThinQ smartphone through settings or using a computer.
