Rumor: ASUS Zenbo Junior Android-Based Robot Launching Soon

ASUS is reportedly working on a second-generation home robot, that is based on Android, and the Snapdragon 845 chipset. According to Roland Quandt, who has been pretty spot on with rumors and leaks in the past including many regarding ASUS, this robot is slated to launch soon. And with IFA right around the corner, it wouldn't be surprising to see this robot launch at the trade show in Berlin later this month.

Quandt had stated that this second-generation home robot would be using a Snapdragon 845 chipset over the Intel Atom that the first-generation model used, back in May. And now it appears that it is getting ready to launch very soon. Quandt speculated that ASUS had decided to use the Snapdragon 845 over Intel's offerings, due to the artificial intelligence features that Qualcomm offers in its chipsets. It also likely works better with Android, since every flagship uses the Snapdragon 845 chipset this year and virtually nothing uses an Intel chipset that runs on Android. Which makes sense for ASUS, as the less work it needs to do to get this thing ready the better.

Home robots aren't necessarily new, but they are starting to pick up steam with different smartphone makers. ASUS isn't the first to create one, and likely won't be the last. But the use-case for these home robots are still up in the air. Right now, they aren't all that useful, but ASUS might be able to change that with the Zenbo Junior. It's important to note, however, that we don't know a whole lot about this robot just yet – including features – so it's hard to say just how popular it will be. But it should be available pretty soon, if this source is to be believed. Hopefully it'll make its debut at IFA later this month in Berlin.
