Trulia Wants To Change Real Estate With New Android Tool

Real estate platform Trulia on Tuesday announced Trulia Neighborhoods, a new mobile service for Android and iOS that wants to change the entire digital aspect of the industry by providing consumers with a vast database of crowdsourced knowledge whose primary goal is to give them a feeling of what they can expect after moving into any particular neighborhood. The app collects information submitted by locals, with its offerings including everything from restaurant reviews, anecdotes, and images to school ratings, infographics, and even drone footage.

Trulia Neighborhoods is packaged as an update to the Trulia Real Estate app that is already available for download from the Google Play Store; refer to the banner below to find out whether your current smartphone or tablet is compatible with the new version of the mobile tool. The newly announced service also seeks to deliver more personal, first-hand accounts of various neighborhoods throughout the United States, with the initial version of the platform encompassing close to 300 areas in Chicago, San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and Austin. Trulia plans to add over 1,100 new neighborhoods to its crowdsourced ecosystem by the end of the year, the company confirmed.

Besides first-hand neighborhood info, the mobile service also delivers area-specific crime maps and charts of local amenities, with users also being able to submit school ratings through the platform. Trulia claims its internal research shows some 85-percent of Americans looking to buy a house within the next 18 months believe the neighborhood quality is a more important factor than the real estate itself, with Trulia Neighborhoods being meant to address that demand for knowledge, thus venturing where no other digital platform went before. It's still unclear how the company is planning to keep its new tool up-to-date as incentivizing users to crowd-source data may turn into an expensive affair once the service grows to a certain point. To date, the Trulia Real Estate mobile app accumulated over ten million downloads on Android alone, according to its Google Play Store listing.
