Google shares control of AMP with the development community

Accelerated Mobile Pages, or AMP for short, has been a controversial project at Google since it was initially announced. The lack of any opt-out mechanism, poor cross-browser compatibility, and Google's de-prioritization of AMP-less sites in search results are all major problems. However, the platform might improve in the coming months, as AMP is will no longer be fully under Google's control.

Instead, it will be managed by multiple committees made of representatives from companies and organizations that have already contributed to AMP. Google says that 78% of all code contributions have come from other companies, like Twitter, Pinterest, Yahoo, and eBay.

The Washington Post, AliExpress, eBay, Cloudflare, and others have agreed to join the Advisory Committee. In the long term, Google wants to move AMP to its own foundation, similar to The Linux Foundation and similar organizations.

Apple has decided to postpone new features in iOS in favor of improving the reliability and performance of the operating system, as according to a report by Axios. According to the report, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President, Software Engineering, announced the revised plan to employees at a meeting earlier this month. This pushes features like refresh of the homescreen and in-car user interface, improvements to core apps like Mail and camera experience to 2019.
