Deal: NVIDIA SHIELD TV Smart Home Edition For $199 At Amazon – October 2018

Amazon is currently taking $20 off of the regular price of the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Smart Home Edition, bringing the price down to just $199. This is effectively the same price as the SHIELD TV that includes the controller and remote. However, here you are getting the remote with the Samsung SmartThings Link, hence the "Smart Home Edition" name here. This is only $20 off, but the SHIELD TV never goes on sale. And it likely won't drop back down to this price again until Black Friday next month.

The NVIDIA SHIELD TV by itself is a really impressive console/set-top box to bring into your home. As expected, it does run on Android TV, so you can get all of your favorite apps and games here. Which means you can get Netflix, Hulu, Google Play Movies & TV, YouTube and so much more, on your TV. It also supports 4K and HDR, so you're getting a really good looking picture out of the NVIDIA SHIELD TV. But it also doubles as a gaming console. Now it is mostly limited to running Android games, which is fine. So you're going to get stuff like Asphalt 9: Legends, which is going to work better with a controller anyways. But GEFORCE NOW is also here, so you can play your games from Steam on the big screen, which is definitely a big reason to get this console. This one is about as powerful as the PlayStation 4, but much cheaper.

Now the real reason to get this particular version of the SHIELD TV is for the SmartThings Link. This is essentially a small USB dongle you can plug into the SHIELD TV and it turns it into a SmartThings hub. This means that you can control everything in your home through your SHIELD TV. This is because SmartThings is compatible with virtually everything in the smart home space already. It also works with Zigbee and Z-Wave so that you can have one hub to rule them all. SmartThings is also compatible with Google Assistant, which is on the NVIDIA SHIELD TV, and that's what truly makes this a really impressive set-top box to pick up for your home. And definitely worth the $200 here. SmartThings is also compatible with Alexa, but the SHIELD TV is not, so it's not as good of an option as Google Assistant is.

This is also eligible for Amazon Prime's free shipping. Which includes free two-day shipping, and pretty cheap (usually $3.99) next-day shipping if you need it extra fast. However, if you are in one of the select areas that has Prime Now, this is also available and you can get it within a couple of hours, if you are in desperate need. If you are not an Amazon Prime member yet, you can sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime. You'll get 30 days free (if you're a student, you get 6 months), and then it's $119/year (or $59/year for students). Prime members do get a whole lot more than just free shipping though, so be sure to check out the full benefits. That includes Amazon Prime Video, Twitch Prime, and even some benefits at Whole Foods.
