Suspected Huawei P Smart (2019) Gets Closer To Release

A new device from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd, listed as the 'Smart Phone POT-LX3' has now been spotted passing through the FCC that may turn out to be a new 2019 edition Huawei P Smart. That's based on prior naming conventions and, while not officially announced yet, the FCC documentation seems to lay out plenty of details about this particular handset. For starters, the device is listed as supporting "LTE/HSPA/UMTS" and "GSM/GPRS/EDGE" protocols on LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 28 and GSM bands 850, 900, 1800, and 1900. UTMS bands are listed as 1, 2, 4, 5, and 8. However, it also goes quite a bit further to indicate that four variants of the suspected mid-range Android smartphone will feature 3GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB storage in either a single or dual-SIM configuration for both configurations. All other internal specs will be identical. Meanwhile, the battery is listed as a 3,320mAh affair. Stepping back from that, images in the documentation suggest this mobile will measure 155.2 x 73.4mm and will feature a near-bezel-free design with a 'waterdrop-style' notch along the top edge housing the forward-facing selfie camera. While not verified in any official capacity, there also appears to be plenty of room in the rear-facing camera cutout to house a dual-sensor array for dual-camera features, set just above what appears to be an LED flash cutout. Below that and horizontally-centered, another cutout seems to point to a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Looking at the diagram from the front, the device's volume rocker and power button would be placed along the right-hand edge. Background: The basis for expecting this handset to bear out as a new Huawei P Smart, as alluded to above, stems from the fact that the final three characters in the model number match up with the previous entry in that device family. Namely, that would be the Huawei P Smart launched at the beginning of this year under the 'FIG-LX3' model designation. Moreover, the minimal bezel design and listed specs seem to support that notion, albeit slimmed down quite a bit from that previous iteration. For perspective, the 2018 version of the Huawei P Smart hit the market as an all-metal middle-budget Android 8.0 Oreo handset with a 5.56-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) touchscreen panel and a 3,000mAh non-removable battery. A dual-sensor camera was also included in that package along with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Driving the OS, Huawei included a HiSilicon Kirin 658 octa-core SoC clocked at a frequency of 2.36GHz backed up by 3GB RAM and 32GB of microSD-expandable storage. Impact: So it seems as though, at first glance, most aspects of the previous version of the handset are remaining intact for the 2019 iteration of Huawei's P Smart, if that turns out to be what this is. The storage in the FCC listing has obviously received a bump, up to double that available in the prior version, as has the battery. Setting aside the major reduction to bezels and the inclusion of a notch to accommodate that, for now, there isn't much to differentiate between the old and the new. The OEM will almost certainly bump the processor forward as well and the software will most likely follow a similar route but those things can really only be speculated at until the company comes forward with an official announcement.
