Lenovo Introduces World's First 12GB RAM Smartphone

Lenovo has just announced the world's very first smartphone with 12GB of RAM, in form of its Lenovo Z5 Pro GT handset. This smartphone actually got announced alongside the Lenovo Z5s, and the Z5s does not sport a display camera hole, despite the fact pretty much every rumor, leak, and teaser claimed it will. Having said that, these two smartphones are completely different one compared to the other, so we'll have to talk about each of them separately. It's only fair to start with the world's first 12GB RAM smartphone, though, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. World's First 12GB RAM Smartphone The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is a phone which is made out of metal and glass, and which does not sport a display notch nor a display camera hole. This smartphone comes with an extremely thin bezel below the display, and it utilizes the camera sliding mechanism, similar to the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is basically the more powerful variant of the Lenovo Z5 Pro which was announced in China recently, as it comes with a more powerful set of internals. In addition to having an almost bezel-less design, and the camera sliding mechanism, this smartphone is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, compared to the Snapdragon 710 which is included in the Lenovo Z5 Pro. In addition to that, the phone also packs in 12GB of RAM, which makes it the world's very first handset to ship with 12GB of RAM, and it sports a carbon fiber finish under its rear glass panel, similar to the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. Lenovo also added some red accents to this mostly black smartphone, and the company claims that you will be able to open 50 apps at the same time thanks to 12GB of RAM. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT features a 6.39-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) Super AMOLED display, which is protected by a layer of Corning's Gorilla Glass (unspecified version). Now, the variant of this phone with 12GB of RAM is the most powerful one, that's for sure, but the phone also comes in 6GB and 8GB RAM models. The 6GB RAM variant comes with 128GB of storage, the 8GB RAM model is available in both 128GB and 256GB storage flavors, while the 12GB RAM variant packs in 512GB of internal storage. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT includes two SIM card slots, while it ships with Android 9 Pie, and ZUI 10 skin on top of it. 16-megapixel (Sony's IMX519 sensor, f/1.8 aperture) and 24-megapixel (Sony's IMX576 sensor, f/1.8 aperture) cameras are included on the back of this phone, while you'll find 16-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture) and 8-megapixel (Face Unlock) cameras on the front. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and it is also equipped with Dolby Atmos audio. The phone includes a 3,350mAh battery with fast charging, while it measures 155.12 x 73.04 x 9.3mm, and weighs 210 grams. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT with 6GB of RAM is priced at 2,698 Yuan ($391) in China, while its 8GB RAM model with 128GB of storage costs 2,998 Yuan ($434). The 8GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage is priced at 3,398 Yuan ($492), while the top-of-the-line 12GB RAM model with 512GB of storage costs 4,398 Yuan ($635) in China. The phone will become available for purchase starting on January 24, while it will be available for pre-order on January 15. It remains to be seen if this smartphone will ever make it to Europe or the US. The Lenovo Z5s sports a teardrop display notch instead, as you can see in the provided images. The phone is made out of metal and glass, it sports three rear-facing cameras, which are located in the upper-left corner of its back side. A fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the phone as well, while the company's branding is included on the back as well. The device sports a really thin "chin" below the display, and some color accents on the back. Unlike the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, the Lenovo Z5s is a mid-range smartphone, it comes with the same processor as the Lenovo Z5 Pro, the Snapdragon 710. The Lenovo Z5s sports a P21 splash-resistant coating, which should protect the phone from accidental spills, and light rain. This smartphone packs in a 6.39-inch fullHD+ LTPS display, while it comes in 4GB and 6GB RAM variants. The phone's 4GB RAM model comes with 64GB of storage, while the 6GB RAM model will be available in both 64GB and 128GB storage flavors. Both variants offer storage expansion, in case you were wondering. The Lenovo Z5s comes with two nano SIM card slots (hybrid setup), while Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the phone with ZUI 10 skin. A 3,300mAh battery is included in the package, along with fast charging, while you will find 16-megapixel (f/1.8 aperture), PDAF), 8-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture, telephoto lens), and 5-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture) cameras on the back of this phone. A single 16-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) sits on the front side of the phone, while a 3.5mm headphone jack is included in the package as well. Dirac audio is included here, same goes for Bluetooth 5.0. The phone measures 156.7 x 74.5 x 7.85mm, and it weighs 172 grams. The Lenovo Z5s comes in Honey Orange, Gray, and Titanium Crystal Blue color variants. The phone's 4GB RAM model costs 1,398 Yuan ($202), the 6GB RAM variant with 64GB of storage is priced at 1,598 Yuan ($231), while the 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage can be purchased for 1,898 Yuan ($275). The device is already available for pre-order in China, while it will become available for purchase on December 24. Much like with the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT, we're not sure whether this phone will be coming to Europe or the US, that goes for other markets outside of China as well. If Lenovo does plan to release it in any of those markets, that will probably happen in early 2019. [gallery link="file" ids="792114,792113"]
