HTC Hosting Virtual Event on October 20 to Announce Marshmallow-Powered ‘One’ Device

As soon as Google’s morning event wrapped up, an email hit our inbox, claiming HTC is going to unwrap a brand new, Marshmallow -powered One device on October 20 via a “virtual event.” What is meant by virtual event, HTC states, “This is not your traditional smartphone so we aren’t hosting a traditional launch event.”  The event is set to kick off at 12pm EST on October 20, which is 9am PST for those on the west coast. As to which device HTC is referring to, we assume they are speaking of the One A9 , a device that has been leaked left and right, but we would not exactly put money on that. The timing matches up well, given it was reported we would see the One A9 launch this November, however, nothing is ever confirmed until it is announced and official. If HTC does announce the One A9, the device is reported to feature a 5″ AMOLED display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, microSD card slot, 2,150 mAh battery, 13MP rear-facing camera, and an UltraPixel camera along the frontside

Google demos how Chromecast can power gaming on the TV with your smartphone

Image
You don’t need a console, microconsole, or even a cord to play games on your television. You’ll only need a Chromecast. During its Nexus event today, Google revealed that it is working with developers to stream games from your smartphone to your TV-connected Chromecast ( Google also announced the Chromecast 2 and Chromecast audio today ). This feature enables gamers to control apps like Angry Birds Go, a kart-racing game, with their phones while the visuals display on your television. This is something we’ve seen before with Apple’s Airplay to Apple TV, but a Chromecast is only $35 — and Google revealed it has sold 20 million Chromecasts worldwide. Of course, mobile gaming on a television has had many incarnations so far and none have really caught on. We’ve seen plenty of companies attempt to put Android hardware microconsoles, and that led to the disastrous Ouya and a number of other entries that almost no one remembers. But gaming on smartphones and tablets is worth $30 billion
