Waymo explores integrating self-driving cars w/ public transportation for the ‘last mile’

Image
Waymo is gearing up for the self-driving future by exploring how the new technology impacts existing infrastructure and creates new experiences . The latest involves a partnership with an Arizona public transportation system to have autonomous vehicles solve the "last mile" challenge. Nintendo Switch The Alphabet division thinks that public transportation plays an "integral part of our cities," noting the social, economic, and environmental benefits. It hopes that autonomous technology will help "better utilize the investments and infrastructure that already exist today." That's why cities around the world invest significant resources to build and maintain public infrastructure — light rail, trains, and buses — that help people commute and move around. However, the broad nature of these mass-serving systems means they cannot take every passenger to a precise endpoint. This "last mile" challenge deals wit

MoviePass to raise its price 50% to $14.95 a month and limit ticket availability to blockbusters

Image
Trying to better match revenue flow and expenses, MoviePass will raise its subscription price sometime over the next 30 days by 50%, to $14.95/month. The current rate is $9.95/month. Subscribers get to view one 2D movie every day. As we told you last night, CEO Mitch Lowe held a meeting yesterday to inform employees that subscribers will no longer be able to use the service to view blockbuster movies. Last weekend, the new Mission Impossible film was off-limits, and upcoming titles from Disney (Chirstopher Robin) and Warner (The Meg) will also be unavailable to ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

LG Stylo 4 now available at a discounted price through Amazon’s Prime Exclusive program

Image
Amazon continues to grow its lineup of Prime Exclusive Android smartphones. The LG Stylo 4 is now available through Amazon's Prime Exclusive program . That means that you can get it at a discounted price in exchange for the phone coming with some preloaded Amazon apps, like Prime Video, Amazon Kindle, and Amazon Music. This LG Stylo 4 is sold unlocked and is compatible with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the U.S. When it comes to specs, the LG Stylo 4 boasts a 6.2-inch 2160×1080 display with 18:9 aspect ratio and has a stylus built-in. LG has added software features to help you take advantage of that stylus, too, like Screen Off Memo that'll let you just pull the stylus out and begin writing on the screen without having to turn the display on. Another notable feature is called GIF Capture, which will let you take snippets of video, edit them with your stylus, and share them with friends. Other hardware features of the LG Stylo 4 include 32GB of internal sto

The Honor Note 10 has a 6.95-inch display and a pair of rear cameras

Image
As bezels continue to shrink, smartphone manufacturers clearly have no hesitation about shoving huge display panels in their new devices. One such device is the Honor Note 10 . This brand new handset boasts a gigantic 6.95-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080×2220. The new handset features a Kirin 970 processor under the hood with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and either 64GB of 128GB of built-in storage. It's running Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box underneath Huawei's proprietary EMUI skin. There is no headphone jack on this handset, which may be a dealbreaker for some these days. The battery measures in at 5000mAh and there is a rear fingerprint sensor included. There are 24MP camera and 16MP cameras on the back, with a 13MP front-facing camera on the other side. The Honor Note 10 will be available in both phantom blue and magic night black. Pricing will start at ¥2799 (about $410 USD). It doesn't look like the handset will find its way outside of China any time soon,

MoviePass is raising prices and limiting the movies subscribers can see

Image
MoviePass wanted to change things up in the moviegoing experience by offering a subscription, letting customers see one movie a day every month for a low monthly fee. The service has had a variety of different subscription models in its short time on this planet, with monthly options and yearly options to choose from. But it wasn't until the service reduced its monthly subscription fee to just $10 per month that things took off. MoviePass earned itself over 3 million subscribers after that price drop, but it still wasn't enough to actually keep the lights on for much longer. MoviePass's struggles are well documented at this point. The service has tried to make ends meet by deploying a variety of different add-ons to its plan. That includes "peak pricing", which adds a one-time charge (in some cases, up to $4.00) when you buy a ticket to a popular movie at a popular time. (Or it could just be a new release at 10:00 AM on a week day.) But it has been a slippe

Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Review: The 4K HDR Phone

Image
Sony's Xperia XZ2 Premium features possibly the finest mobile display ever made. Sony's Premium line of smartphones has always brought about some interesting technological achievement, and this year is no different. Sporting the world's first combination of a 4K display with HDR capabilities, as well as a dual-camera setup capable of recording 4K HDR content, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is an all-in-one package for smartphone camera enthusiasts and HDR video fanatics alike. Do these features warrant the big price jump to $999? Let's take a look. Video Review Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Specs Claiming the crown as the most expensive flagship phone from Sony yet, the Xperia XZ2 Premium retails for £799/€900/$999 and is bundled with the Xperia Ear Duo wireless headphones, which normally retail for $279 by themselves. The phone is sold in Chrome Black or Chrome Silver, the latter of which is the color we have for review. On the front is the centerpiece of the phone, the

DEAL: Moto X4 Drops to $199 With Code at Newegg

Image
For a limited time, and likely until stock runs out because of this great price, you can pick-up a Moto X4 for just $199.99 at Newegg. This phone was originally priced at $400 , so it's half off at the moment. While a full year-old, the Moto X4 at $200 is still a phone to consider. It's unlocked to work on all carriers, looks pretty, has clean Android, and has seen a decent set of updates. It has a fingerprint reader, 5.2-inch full HD display, IP68 water and dust resistance, dual cameras, and decent-sized 3000mAh battery for this small of a phone. While I didn't initially love the phone in my Moto X4 review , it has seen updates since then that should have improved it. Also, it's $200 now. To get the Moto X4 for $199.99, use code "EMCPWSE22" at checkout. The black model is the only model discounted. Thanks, Lenovo, for including a camera cover on your Smart Display

Image
For me, the most important feature is something most people aren't talking about. I ordered the Lenovo Smart Display on day one because a digital assistant with its own display is a thing I'm really interested in. Ever since the first crafty DIY'er built the first smart mirror people have thought of ways visual feedback can be integrated with something that gives you some extra information, and a small(ish) screen that can tap into the power of a virtual assistant would make for the ultimate bedside clock. At least until we see a full-size smart mirror for your dresser or chest of drawers, that is. I thought I'd be able to have what I wanted when Amazon dropped the Echo Show with its 7-inch display and the power of Alexa to tell me the weather, play me a song, or wake me up when I just want to stay in bed. When we got the information and specs I knew I wasn't going to buy one because of one simple reason — you can't turn off the camera. There

How did OnePlus just beat Apple and Samsung?

Image
A perfect storm of sales and big-name new phone releases made OnePlus win the quarter for premium device sales in India in Q2 2018. Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone X are not currently in vogue as we're a few months away from a new launch, and Galaxy Note 9 is coming at the start of August – so that leaves … Continue reading #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Making it easier to discover data in Search

Image
In a polarized world, facts and data can provide valuable context for the debates swirling around us. And there has never been more data out there, with record numbers of data journalists working to make sense of it all. In fact, a study by the Google News Lab found that just over half of all newsrooms now have a dedicated data journalist. One of the ways we seek to support data journalists through our Google News Initiative is to work to make data easier to discove r, and we're continuing this work with a new feature on Search. Data journalism takes many forms, and it's not always clear from the headline that there is potentially useful data within that document or story. The way that data is presented can vary as well, and though data tables are often the most useful format for data journalists, it isn't always easy for Google Search to detect and understand tables of data to surface the most relevant results. Based on feedback from 30 of the top data journa

US HTC U12+ gets camera and pressure-sensitive buttons update

Image
Earlier this month, HTC pushed an OTA update in Taiwan to the U12+ adding new features and a much-needed update to the pressure-sensitive buttons. The patch weighs 437MB and the build number is 1.21.617.3 . Тhe changelog outlines the very same update we saw with the Taiwanese version of the device. The most important fix is for the pressure-sensitive buttons that should now be more responsive and won't get in the way of the Edge Sense gestures. The double tapping on the edge should work better now too. The update also brings the so-called Auto Zoom feature for video recording. But despite what the name says, the functionality is actually a manual zoom, which behaves differently than the Sonic Zoom option. The handset is also capable of unlimited 4K@30fps video recording from now on. The usual battery and system performance improvements are also at hand and the security patch us bumped up to June 2018. T-Mobile to offer the LG Q7+; device carries 5.5-inch Full Vision screen

Image
This Friday, August 3rd, T-Mobile is expected to start offering the LG Q7+. Or at least that's the assumption we can make looking at the phone's official support page that has gone live. The page has a "Software Updates" section stating that a software update for the device is to become live on August 3. That is also the date on the home screen of the LG Q7+ pictured there – another clue pointing at a nearing T-Mobile release.  The LG Q7+ features the "modern" look with a 5.5-inch LCD display carrying a resolution of 1080 x 2160 (FHD+). That means the ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews
