Chromebook Commits Hint At Native Dual-Boot Windows Support

Image
A recently spotted series of commits to the Chromium Gerrit seems to suggest that Chromebooks will feature easy-to-use Windows dual boot options at some point in the future. Specifically, the changes are filed under the internal codename "Campfire" as well as directly with Google's own Pixelbook offerings via a firmware branch referred to as "eve-campfire." The latter of those references cropped up in another commit back in April alongside a reference to an "AltOS" and HLK Testing. The first of those seems to point to an alternate operating system and was originally thought to be tied in with Fuchsia OS. On the other hand, HLK is now thought to indicate that the device being tested was aiming to achieve Windows hardware certification. Taken together, the implication is that the Pixelbook in question will be able to boot up both Windows and Chrome OS. Further commits have appeared in the meantime, adding substantial weight to the speculation. What is

Qualcomm announces the new high-tier Snapdragon 670

Image
The new Snapdragon 670 represents a strong push by Qualcomm to bring a little feature parity between its Premium (800 series) and High (600-series) tier phones. In the past, the 800-series has always gotten the latest and greatest features, while the 600 series was left in the dark with older ones. The 670, however is quite the beast. Its Cryo 360 CPU features two performance cores (rated at 2.2GHz) and six efficiency cores (rated at 1.7GHz), for a total of eight cores at 2.0GHz. That's not quite as powerful as an 800-series processor, but it  is  15% faster than the next-best 600-series one. The 670 should see improved graphical processing as well, with an Adreno 615 GPU. The 670 also features Bluetooth 5, Quick Charge 4+, and a Hexagon 685 AI chip, all cutting-edge specifications normally seen on a higher-tier processor. It also includes support for  a 16MP dual-sensor camera or 25MP single-sensor camera, and a 30% reduction in power demands for those sensors. Finally, the S

Motorola P30 images and specs revealed

We don't even know the launch date or release date but these are believed to be official press renders. The Motorola P30 may remind you of the Moto One. It could be one and the same because of the notch. This is the first time the company is applying a notch design and as with the Moto One o

Opinion: Fortnite Could Easily Change Android Gaming Forever

Image
Angry Birds, Pokemon GO, Minecraft, and Fortnite are all vastly different games but they all have one thing in common – they attracted countless players around the globe and transcended the gaming medium as a whole. So, when the latest viral thing in the gaming industry decides to circumvent the world's largest mobile app marketplace in favor of a self-publishing model, that's bound to make waves on a number of fronts. As it turns out, that's exactly what Epic Games recently decided to do. " 30-percent is disproportionate to the cost of the services these stores perform," said Epic CEO Tim Sweeney earlier this month, referring to the cut Google takes from all revenue generated by Play Store apps. The move surprised many an industry watcher, being a largely unprecedented decision, especially given how no single Android game ever came anywhere remotely close to a glimpse of success in the West without launching through the Google Play Store. Still, Epic made its

Ugh: Motorola and Lenovo are making one of the worst iPhone X clones yet

Image
AndroidPure Leaked renders show off Lenovo and Motorola's upcoming P30 smartphone. The Motorola P30 is rumored to launch on August 15 in China. It will also look exactly like an iPhone X. Motorola is expected to launch a new smartphone lineup in China this week, and it's pretty clear where the company got its design inspiration. The upcoming Motorola P30, according to renders obtained by  AndroidPure , is going to be one of the most shameless iPhone X ripoffs of the year. If I learned one thing from grade school, it was that copying is not okay. That apparently doesn't apply to Lenovo and Motorola. Just look at this thing. The vertically stacked cameras, the big ol' notch, the glass back, the aluminum sides, the wallpaper, and even the clock on the lock screen look just like the iPhone X. It's one thing to take a few design elements from Apple's flagship, but this is going overboard. This is Xiaomi Mi 8-level copying . Okay, okay, t

Here’s your first look at the Huawei Mate 20 Lite – and its iPhone X notch

Image
Evan Blass Images of the Huawei Mate 20 Lite leaked today via Evan Blass. The images show that the Mate 20 Lite will have a notched display, unlike the previous Mate 10 line. We don't know if the other Mate 20 phones will have notches, but these images make it seem likely. We are anxiously awaiting the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 series which will include the vanilla Mate 20 as well as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It also seems that there will be a Huawei Mate 20 Lite, and we have our first look at it in the images above, via Evan Blass ( @EVLeaks ). The first thing you'll notice is the huge notch at the top of the screen, which looks a lot like the notch on the iPhone X. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for a notch-less experience as you had with the Huawei Mate 10 line, you might be out of luck. Google Home Adds Pandora Premium & Deezer Support

Image
Google announced that its smart speakers – the Google Home , Home Max and Home Mini – all now support two new streaming music services. Those are Pandora Premium and Deezer . These are in addition to the many music streaming services that are already available on Google Home, which includes Google Play Music, Spotify, and many more. This means that if you are a Pandora Premium or Deezer subscriber, you can now listen to your favorite music on your Google Home smart speaker, simply by asking the Google Assistant to play your music. Just tell Google Assistant which playlist, or song you want to play and then make sure to specify the service – in this case, Pandora or Deezer. Those that own a Google Home, but don't have the paid version of Pandora – which includes playlists, no ads, etc – you can sign up for a free 90-day trial of the service. Additionally, Deezer is available for HiFi and Premium users in the US, Canada, Italy, Australia, UK, France and Germany. Unfortunately, othe

YouTube Paying Stars Upfront To Push New Features: Report

Image
YouTube is reportedly giving high-ranking creators upfront grants in return for having them leverage their vast fan bases to push new features on the platform. According to some anonymous insiders who spoke with Bloomberg, these grants can reach all the way up into hundreds of thousands of dollars and are typically attached to new site features meant to expand possible revenue sources for both creators and the site itself. Some of these, such as new paid chat options and paid subscriptions for content from individual YouTubers, separate from a YouTube Red subscription, are said to bear a fairly high profit margin, which means that it makes perfect sense that YouTube wants to see them spread. So far, a report by Bloomberg has been the only source of this sort of information. YouTube has not put out any kind of official notice to the creator community, and for obvious reasons, if any creators are currently being paid extra to boost the exposure for new site features, they're not ta

Huawei Calls Its Federal Ban ‘Misguided, Unconstitutional’

Image
Huawei deems the federal ban on its products put in place by the United States government on Monday an exercise in futility on Washington's part. "Huawei supports the US government's goals for better security, but this random addition to the NDAA is ineffective, misguided, and unconstitutional," a company spokesperson said in a statement to AndroidHeadlines. The Shenzhen-based original equipment manufacturer argues that the defense bill amendment doesn't help the U.S. government identify the "real security risks" or otherwise strengthen its cyber defenses. Instead, the provision will do nothing but be detrimental to Huawei's ambitions to innovate across a wide variety of technology segments, consequently hurting American consumers and businesses who would be willing to use the company's products, according to the firm. Besides preventing federal agency heads from allowing any kind of technology from Huawei to be used in critical systems or as
