Newer Android Wear Watches Now Work On iOS

Image
More than a year after the launch of the first Android Wear watches, Google is now finally bringing iOS support to its smartwatch platform with the launch of its Android Wear mobile app in Apple’s App Store today. This probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise, given that Huawei spoiled this launch by announcing iOS support for its upcoming Android Wear watch last week,… Read More

Google is making its Android Wear smartwatches iPhone compatible, announcing an iOS app for what has hitherto been Android-only companion devices. The new app will give iPhone users an alternative to Apple Watch for their wearable needs, handy for those who'd like a circular display, a different form-factor, or simply a cheaper option than Apple's own smartwatch. Android Wear was … Continue reading

Android Wear smartwatches come to the iPhone

Image
In a nondescript conference room at Google’s headquarters a few weeks ago, I paired my iPhone to a smartwatch running Android for the first time. I was there to ask Jeff Chang, the lead product manager for Wear, how he’d managed to get Android watches working with iOS and how much they could do with an iPhone. Then my first notification came in on my newly paired Huawei Watch and my carefully laid plans evaporated. “Um. Did something just happen with Sundar Pichai?” I asked. “Wait, what?” was the response. Oh, you know, he’s your new CEO now . Shall we go on with the interview? Continue reading…

Google reportedly kills plan to let retailers send notifications in Maps

Image
Google's already  got a plan in motion for taking on Apple's iBeacon technology, which helps developers offer notifications and other alerts specific to your precise location — beyond what Wi-Fi or GPS can do alone. But  according to Fortune , at one point Google had an even more ambitious program in the works. The feature, designed to work inside Google Maps, would've been called Google Here and was slated to launch with some big-name partners including Starbucks. Fortune says that Here would serve up a notification "within five seconds" of a user entering any partner location; you can imagine many of those would be retail stores. Continue reading…

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Smart Protect will help keep your next phone malware-free

Image
If you own a smartphone or computer, device security should always be on your mind. With thousands of unknown (“zero-day”) malware apps being generated each day, some of the traditional signature-based antivirus solutions aren’t always able to detect them all. So to better help protect users from mobile malware, Qualcomm today announced a new technology called Snapdragon Smart Protect. Smart Protect will be present on newer Qualcomm chipsets, such as the upcoming Snapdragon 820 , and will be used to help detect different types of mobile malware. Qualcomm has created new APIs that can be used by OEMs and antivirus app vendors to help complement their security technology with “real-time machine learning-based behavioral analysis”. Qualcomm explains: Snapdragon Smart Protect is engineered to look at the actual behavior of device applications in real time and almost instantly detect and classify any application behavior that is considered suspicious or anomalous. Suspicious appli

[Deal Alert] SanDisk's Gargantuan 200GB MicroSD Card Drops Another $20, Now Costs $200 On Amazon

Image
This is a deal alert, but only in the sense that the 200GB SanDisk microSD card has hit its lowest price yet. Instead of $220, it now goes for $200 . That is less money than you would have spent two weeks ago for the same product. That said, microSD cards in general aren't that expensive. You could get a 128GB card for $60 . On a per-gigabyte basis, paying over three times as much for less than twice the data isn't really saving money. Source: New "Nexus 5" By LG Will Feature Snapdragon 808, 5.2" 1080p Display, 3GB RAM, 2700mAh Battery, USB-C, And More

Image
We've received information from a reliable source detailing basic specifications for the upcoming 5.2" Nexus phone being produced by LG. First things first: we don't even know if Nexus 5 is the name. And because it's probably the most-wanted piece of information: we don't know excactly how much it will cost, other than to say it's likely it will be at a sub-flagship level. Does that mean $300? $400? $500? We really don't know, so your guess is as good as ours here. Motorola Moto 360 Sport pictured, could be launched in November

Image
Perhaps inspired by Apple and its different Watch models (including a Watch Sport), Motorola is seemingly getting ready to release several new Moto 360 variants. Besides the Moto 360 2 - which should come in two different sizes - it looks like we'll also get a Moto 360 Sport. The Moto 360 Sport was unveiled today by @upleaks, which also revealed the existence of the Motorola Bounce smartphone. As its name suggests, the Moto 360 Sport will be targeted at users who have an active life, offering fitness-oriented features. Unlike the Moto 360 2, the Moto 360 Sport has a somewhat rugged design, ...

'Shatterproof' Motorola Bounce leaks: 5.4" QHD screen, 3760 mAh battery, December release

Image
Motorola isn't done with great phones this season, it seems, as a popular leakster account just tipped a rugged Motorola Bounce might greet us come December. The handset will apparently sit somewhere sideways of the Moto X Style or X Play, as it is supposed to be "shatterproof," likely adhering to some rugged specification which could include a waterproof chassis, too. In any case, the Motorola Bounce leak tells us to expect a phone with a 5.43" Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 810 chipset, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB/ 64 GB storage, as well as a hearty 3760 ...

We don't need smartphones with 4K displays yet. Here are a bunch of reasons

Image
If rumors are to be believed, Sony might be on the way of becoming the first smartphone manufacturer to come up with a handset (the Xperia Z5 Premium) that will rock a, wait for it... 4K display. With the rumored size of the display being 5.5 inches, the upcoming Xperia might amaze us with a mind-boggling and pioneering pixel density of 805ppi.  This will put Sony in a field that hardly any other manufacturer has ventured into before. Currently, Samsung is the maker behind some of the phones with the sharpest displays, namely the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 Active, and S5 LTE-A, ...

How to capture a scrolling screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy Note5

Image
If you've ever wanted to take a screenshot on your Android device of a scrolling page, such as this PhoneArena article, you've probably faced the limitation that Android can only capture a screenshot of what's currently displayed on screen. The same limitation is true for when you want to take a screenshot of a scrolling app. If you just happen to own a Samsung Galaxy Note5, then you shouldn't worry about this, as the Galaxy Note5 comes with a pretty sweet scrolling screenshot option. Here's what you need to do in order to take a scrolling screenshot on ...

Did you know that MediaTek's top Helio X10 chip comes in 3 versions: here are the differences

Image
Times are changing: while just last year, most top-end devices were running almost exclusively on Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips, these days, we have way more diversity with the extremely well-performing Exynos chips in Samsung Galaxies to the very affordable yet plenty powerful MediaTek chips. It is the MediaTek silicon, however, that is bringing the real revolution when it comes to the most popular segment of the smartphone market: affordable smartphones. These are the phones that people buy the most, and hence - that make for the biggest change in the lives of millions. The ...

But as with all new OS versions, only a slim number will turn out to significantly impact the overall experience. In this article, we'll talk about the 6 best Android 6.0 Marshmallow features to look forward ...

Meizu unveils new logo, new high-end phone series leak out

Image
Meizu - the Chinese phone brand that makes some of our favorite Android phones recently - has announced a full-on rebranding with a new logo, and leaked details show that a new high-end family of Meizu phones is coming soon. The new logo comes in the signature for the company blue color and there's also a version in black, but the more interesting talk around Meizu is about a new family of devices that is coming soon. Currently, the company has the MX family of higher-end phones (the Meizu MX5 is the current top-of-the-line offering) and the M series ...

LG G4 Note trademark strengthens rumors of a forthcoming Galaxy Note competitor

Image
There’s been talk of an LG G4 Note before, but the rumors have gone a bit quiet as of late. Is LG even still working on it? Only they know for sure, but a new trademark filing suggests they’re ready to go through with those plans. The company has trademarked “G4 Note” at the USPTO and even had a nice logo to go along with it. A trademark doesn’t tell us much of anything on its own, but we can assume this thing will at least be a phablet and use some sort of stylus. That much was already confirmed in an earlier leak . The pen in that particular prototype was slotted into the top of the phone, which is different from the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 which goes in through the bottom. How’s that for differentiation? The stylus shown in that leak was a bit uninspiring. It doesn’t look like anything that you can’t get on Amazon . The reason the S-Pen is so good is because it uses digitizers and pressure sensitivity to simulate an actual ink pen. We’d hope LG has been spending all this time

The man who was wrong about the ‘iTV’ for years has a new prediction about a future Apple product

Image
Having just sent out invites for its upcoming September event late last week, it's clear that Apple's focus is currently on the next generation of iPhones, but we know that the company's long-term goals include plenty of other fascinating products. Countless leaks and reports have painted a relatively clear picture of the unannounced Apple TV subscription service ,  photos from civilians have uncovered the Apple car , and now, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, recent acquisitions and hirings point to Apple entering the increasingly crowded field of augmented reality as well. Largest Apple account theft ever discovered – how to tell if you’re affected

Apple’s walled iOS garden is more resistant to  malware  than Android , though there are still malware apps that can take advantage of Apple’s mobile operating system. A security company found what’s believed to be the largest known Apple account theft caused by malware, and it's developed an online tool that can help you check out whether you were affected already exists.
