Samsung Galaxy A31 and Galaxy A41 coming in these storage options

Image
The Galaxy A51 is expected to be the first of Samsung's 2020 Galaxy A series smartphones to be officially launched , and the company is also working on the Galaxy A11 , Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A91 . While no time frame has been rumored for the unveiling of these devices, Samsung isn't wasting time and has already kicked off development on two more 2020 A series phones. Our sources tell us the Galaxy A31 (SM-A315F) and Galaxy A41 (SM-A415F) are now being actively developed and have revealed the storage options for the two phones. It seems only the Galaxy A31 will be getting an upgrade over its predecessor as far as the storage is concerned. The A31 will come in 64GB and 128GB variants, unlike the 32GB and 64GB options that you get with the Galaxy A30 . The Galaxy A41 will come in a single 64GB variant, just like the Galaxy A40 ( review ). Nothing else is known about the Galaxy A31 and A41 at this time, although both handsets should run Android 10 out of the box like other 2020

Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 9 get December security update

Image
Samsung is at it again: It has released the next month's security patch for more of its flagship phones earlier than you would expect. The Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ are currently getting a new update — software version N97*FXXS1ASKB — with the December security patch in nearly 25 European markets, the full list of which can be found in our firmware section ( Note 10 | Note 10+ ). Samsung is also updating the Galaxy Note 9 with the December patch, although the 2018 Note is only getting the update (software version N960FXXS4CSK2) in Germany at this time. Both the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 9 updates are only bringing the new security patch. There's nothing in the way of new functionality included in the update, which shouldn't be too surprising considering Samsung is running an Android 10 beta program for both flagships right now. Whether you own a Galaxy Note 10, Note 10+, or Galaxy Note 9, you should be able to grab the update over the air by opening t

Samsung indirectly confirms Galaxy S8 and Note 8 won’t get Android 10

Image
Samsung has hammered the final nail in the coffin of the hopes Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 owners may have had of getting the Android 10 update. The company's official Android 10 update schedule that's been going live in various countries in the last few days makes no mention of the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 in the list of eligible devices, indirectly confirming that the 2017 flagships will spend the rest of their days on Android Pie. Considering the company's policy of only providing two major Android OS updates for all of its devices whether they fall in the flagship or budget segment, it was already pretty clear that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 would not get Android 10 . But, as always, one of Samsung's customer care reps raised a false alarm when they told a Galaxy S8 user that the device is slated to get the Android 10 update, making everyone wonder if that oft-criticized policy was finally going to change. And it's possible Samsung  will  start p

Could one of the Galaxy S11’s cameras be a ‘Bright Night Sensor’?

Image
There are plenty of trademarks that Samsung applies for all year round. And one of the company's latest filings has caught our attention – Samsung filed a trademark for a new image sensor called 'Bright Night Sensor' on November 28. Bright Night was originally Samsung's version of a dedicated Night mode for the Galaxy S10 camera, but the fact that the company is now making an actual image sensor with the same name suggests something is afoot for one of Samsung's upcoming smartphones. The first thing that comes to mind is that this could be one of the new sensors we will see on the back of the Galaxy S11 or Galaxy S11+. The latter was shown in leaked renders with  five  rear cameras , and it's possible one of these could be dedicated to improving results in low-light conditions. Precisely how this 'Bright Night Sensor' would work is anyone's guess – perhaps this sensor is just the laser autofocus module that is rumored to be present on the Galax

Galaxy Note 10 finally gets a new Android 10 beta update

Image
Just a day after the stable Android 10 update was released for the Galaxy S10 in Germany, Samsung has released a new beta update for the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. This is the third beta update for the Galaxy Note 10 series and is rolling out in India right now. It carries build number N97*FXXU1ZSKN and includes a number of bug fixes along with the December 2019 security patch. The list of bug fixes in the latest beta for the Note 10 and Note 10+ suggests there's some time to go before Samsung has a stable update ready. Issues like continuous phone restarts with a "blackened and blinking" screen, disconnections when using Bluetooth headsets, failure to display SD card files in the My Files app, and more are fixed in the third beta. There's also a note in the changelog about limiting "the clock step by step depending on temperature", which sounds like it's supposed to control the phone from overheating. To download the latest beta update on your

Samsung may have started making PC CPUs for Intel

Image
We reported earlier this year that Intel could pick Samsung as a contract manufacturer of its 14nm Rocket Lake PC CPUs . It was said back then that negotiations between the two companies were in the final stages. It appears that a deal has been struck between the two titans of the industry. Local media in South Korea is now reporting that Samsung has indeed won orders from Intel for its 14nm chips. Intel has been looking for a contract manufacturer for some time now as it struggles to keep up with demand. Intel's supply struggles are Samsung's gain Intel has been struggling with a 14nm CPU supply shortage since the second half of last year. Things got so bad that Intel's EVP Michelle Johnston Holthaus even apologized for the shortage in a letter last week, saying that the market growth in PCs this year has "outpaced our efforts." Intel also said that it has increased the use of contract manufacturers to boost its PC CPU output by double digits. One of the

Samsung India gearing up to hire 1,200 engineers for R&D next month

Image
Samsung India is strengthening its R&D operations as the company is set to hire no less than 1,200 engineers by the end of the year. Beginning December 1, the company will be looking to hire students from various colleges including the Delhi Technological University, Manipal Institute of Technology, BITS Pilani, IITs, NITs, IISc Bangalore, and more. Samsung India looking for engineers across various fields According to a report passed along by India Today , Samsung is looking to hire young engineers from different fields for its R&D divisions. This includes Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and more. The goal here is to pave the road for future R&D of AI and on-device AI, deep learning and machine learning, IoT, networking, cloud technologies, UI/UX development, data analysis, etc. Samsung India will visit IIT campuses in 17 cities and start the recruitment process on December 1, but it should be noted that this push to strengthen R&D operati

[List] Official Galaxy S10 Android 10 update is out in these countries

Image
Samsung finally released the official and stable version of the Galaxy S10 Android 10 update today. Much like last year, Germany is the first country to get the update. However, it's only a matter of time before Android 10 for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ starts making its way to other countries. Major firmware updates are always released in stages. The list of countries that will receive this update in the coming days is now going to get bigger from now on. We have put together this list of countries so that you can easily find out if Android 10 for the Galaxy S10 is out in your country. Keep in mind that this list is for the Galaxy S10 only. We'll have another for the Galaxy Note 10 once Samsung releases the stable version for that device. We will keep updating this list constantly in the coming weeks so that it always reflects the current situation with regards to the rollout. We look forward to your assistance as well! If you are in a country that has r

Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ Android 10 firmware download available now

Image
Put that Thanksgiving turkey to the side because Samsung just rolled out the Android 10 update for the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10e and Galaxy S10+. The firmware is out of beta and a stable version is now being sent out for the public. We reported earlier today that the stable Android 10 update had been released in Germany for those who were on the beta program . We can confirm that the Android 10 firmware for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ is available for download now. The firmware is available in our database so you can get it right away. Galaxy S10 Android 10 firmware download Samsung is now rolling out firmware version G97*FXXU3BSKO for the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ respectively. The update is being sent out over-the-air gradually. So it's going to take some time before it becomes available in all markets. The update is currently available in Germany only but it's going to be rolled out in other countries soon enough. One would imagine that

Samsung may be the sole supplier of OLED panels for 2020 iPhone Pro models

Image
When Apple made the switch to OLED screens for its top-end smartphones in 2017, beginning with the iPhone X, it chose Samsung Display as its supplier. Despite Samsung being its biggest competitor in smartphones, the Cupertino company had no option but to rely on Samsung for its OLED panels because of the latter's dominance in producing high-quality OLED mobile displays at scale. In the last couple of years, Apple has tried to cut down its reliance on Samsung, but that's not easy as long as the iPhone maker wants the best panels in the market. A case in point is the latest report from ET News that is saying Samsung may be the sole supplier of OLED panels for 2020 iPhone Pro models. Even for the non-pro model, Samsung is reportedly one of the suppliers along with LG. Apple is expected to release three iPhone 12 models in September next year. The lineup supposedly includes an iPhone 12 with a 6.1-inch display, iPhone 12 Pro with a 5.4-inch display, and an iPhone 12 Pro Max wi

Galaxy A51 crosses another obstacle on its way to retail shelves

Image
The Galaxy A51 has been approved by the FCC , a week after it received its Bluetooth certification and two weeks after leaked renders gave us a 360-degree look at the phone's design . The Galaxy A51 is rumored to launch sometime in December along with the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite, with India expected to be the country where the device will first go on sale. The Galaxy A51's main upgrade over the Galaxy A50 will be the camera. The A51 has a quad camera setup at the back, consisting of a 48MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro camera. As we had exclusively revealed , a macro camera will be seen on a Galaxy phone for the first time. Macro cameras are great for taking pictures of objects at a close distance – macro cameras aren't proper substitutes for telephoto cameras, which allow you to zoom in on subjects while standing in one place, but they are cheaper, making them suitable for affordable mid-range devices. Stable Galaxy S10 Android 10 update now out for those on Android Pie

Image
Last year, it was a Christmas gift , and this time, Samsung has chosen Thanksgiving as the special occasion to release the next version of Android for its latest flagship. The company pushed out the stable Android 10 update to the Galaxy S10 series in Germany for beta users earlier today , and now the update is rolling out for the general public, which means you can update to Android 10 and One UI 2.0 right away even if you're on Android Pie. Like the update for beta users, the stable update for those on Android Pie is only available in Germany at this time. It could be a few days or a few weeks before Samsung expands availability of the update to other markets, and we can only just wait and see which of the two it will be. For now, if you're in Germany and are rocking a Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, or Galaxy S10+, you should be able to download Android 10 by tapping the  Download and install  option in the phone's Settings » Software update menu. Once you have updated yo

Galaxy Note 10 Lite: Everything we know so far

Image
For the first time since the Galaxy Note 4, Samsung launched two different variants of the Note flagship in 2019. Extending the Galaxy S series strategy to the Note lineup, the Korean company launched the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ in August this year. Barely three months later, as we reported exclusively , Samsung is looking to add one more variant, the  Galaxy Note 10 Lite , to the already crowded flagship lineup. As the name suggests, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is supposed to be a cheaper and less powerful Note 10 model. It's akin to the popular Galaxy Note 3 Neo from 2014 in terms of its positioning. This time, however, the company already has a "cheaper" Note flagship in the form of the regular Note 10, which begs the necessity for a new model. There is definitely room for a more affordable S Pen device, but is Samsung going to price the Note 10 Lite competitively to fill that niche? We have to wait for the official announcement for answers, but for now, let'

Galaxy A50s and Galaxy M30 get November security update

Image
The Galaxy A50s and Galaxy M30 are being treated to the November 2019 security patch in India. An update has been released for the two phones in the country, carrying software version A507FNXXS2ASK5 and M305FDDS3BSK1 for the A50s and M30 respectively. Both updates are devoid of any new features and only include the latest security fixes. Galaxy A50s and Galaxy M30 owners are probably going to have to wait for the Android 10 update for new features, although the wait for those who have a Galaxy M30 should be considerably shorter. According to Samsung India's official roadmap, the Galaxy M30, along with the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy A30, is set to get the Android 10 update in January . The Galaxy A50s, Galaxy A50, and all other 2019 A series phones will start receiving the update from April. You should see a notification on your Galaxy A50s or M30 when the update is available for your device. You can also manually download the update on your phone by opening its Settings app, selec

Samsung Internet 10.2 released, brings back Video Assistant feature

Image
Samsung has released version 10.2 of the Samsung Internet browser and is bringing back the popular Video Assistant feature. To be clear, Video Assistant already made its return in the beta version of Samsung Internet three months ago, and it is now making its way to the stable version of the browser. However, as we had explained before, Video Assistant is no longer as useful as it was before Samsung pulled it from the browser . Now, the feature does not allow you to open videos in a pop-up window on every site but only on websites that allow it. So, if you were hoping to watch YouTube videos in a pop-up window without paying for YouTube Premium by opening youtube.com in Samsung Internet, you're out of luck. However, Video Assistant isn't a total loss in its reincarnation, as it still lets you watch videos on websites in full screen and stream them to the TV with one tap. Version 10.2 of Samsung Internet also brings the ability to relocate the buttons on the bottom toolbar,

Galaxy Note 10 Lite benchmark reveals Exynos 9810, 6GB of RAM

Image
At long last, we are finally getting to see some of the specs the Galaxy Note 10 Lite could offer. The cheaper Galaxy Note 10 variant (SM-N770F) has surfaced on the Geekbench benchmark database , sporting the Exynos 9810 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and Android 10. Earlier this week, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite's Bluetooth-enabled S Pen was certified by the FCC , and the device is rumored to be launching sometime in December, at least in India . Galaxy Note 10 Lite could be less powerful than the Galaxy S10 Lite The Exynos 9810 and 6GB of RAM make the Galaxy Note 10 Lite less powerful than the Galaxy S10 Lite , which is also expected to launch soon and has a Snapdragon 855 and 8GB of RAM under the hood . The Note 10 Lite's name and specs make it seem like it could have the design of the Galaxy Note 10 and the specs of the Galaxy Note 9. That would certainly not be a bad combination if the price is right, and the S Pen will no doubt be the main attraction. All we can do is speculate, how

Galaxy Note 8 is being updated with December security patch

Image
Samsung has yet again beaten Google to the punch in releasing the next Android security patch for its devices before Google has officially released details of the security patch. Samsung released the December security update for the Galaxy A50 less than a day ago, and it has now pushed out a similar update for the Galaxy Note 8. The update is rolling out in Panama, where the November security update for the Galaxy Note 8 was released in mid-November, which is a good indication of how serious Samsung is getting with security updates, at least in some markets. The company is even working hard on the Android 10 update and is currently hoping to release it for both budget and flagship devices in January, 2020 . The Galaxy Note 8's December update sports software version N950FXXS8DSK1 and should be making its way to other countries in the coming days. It contains only security fixes, and you can check if the update is available for your phone by opening the Settings app, navigating

Both budget and flagship Galaxy phones could get Android 10 in January

Image
In what would be a first for Samsung, the next version of Android could be released for both budget and flagship smartphones within a few weeks. According to Samsung India's roadmap for the Android 10 update, the Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, Galaxy M20, Galaxy M30, Galaxy A30 are all set to be updated to Android in January. While it's a bit unfortunate that Samsung is aiming for a January release for the stable Android 10 and One UI 2.0 update for even the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10, it would be quite the feat if the company manages to push the update out to those other devices in the first month of 2020. And it could do certainly manage that, as it started developing Android 10 firmware for the Galaxy M20 and M30 in mid-November and is already running beta programs for the 2019 and 2018 flagships . Galaxy Fold, Tab S6, A50, and more to get Android 10 in April The inclusion of the Galaxy A30 might seem a bit surprising, as it isn't one of

Samsung opens the largest Experience Store in the UK, offers discounts

Image
Samsung UK is opening a brand new Experience Store in Westfield Stratford City, just in time for Black Friday . The flagship venue has an area of 480 square meters and it is officially UK's largest Samsung Experience Store, not counting the giant Samsung KX experience center opened in London roughly three months ago. Readers might recall that Samsung already launched a store in Westfield London earlier in the year. However, that was a temporary pop-up 'Galaxy Studio' store meant to sell more Galaxy S10 units, while the latest venue is a full-fledged Experience Store where people can check out the full range of Galaxy products. The store also hosts Galaxy Workshops and includes an on-site repair service. Samsung Experience Store Stratford runs exclusive limited-time deals To celebrate the opening of the new SES, the company is offering in-store discounts on a wide variety of products for a limited time, starting today and ending December 3. Samsung's smartphones accounted for 32% of the Canadian market in Q3 2019, down from 38.8% a year ago. Galaxy A50 gets new update including December 2019 security patch

Image
Neither Google nor Samsung has detailed the December 2019 security patch, but the Galaxy A50 has beaten all the other models to the punch as it is now receiving a new update in Israel, which includes the latest security fixes. The December 2019 security patch is included in the latest Android 10 beta, but this is the first time that it reaches a Galaxy smartphone on a live build. The new update targeting the Galaxy A50 carries version number A505FDDU3ASKA , which means that it should also technically include new features along with improved security. As yet, we are unable to confirm what these new features might be, but if you have received the update on your Galaxy A50 and you've noticed any new additions, feel free to let us know in the comment section below. Although the rollout is limited to Israel at present, it should expand into more regions sooner rather than later. As usual, the update is accompanied by a notification which you can tap to begin the update process. Al

Bluetooth S Pen for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite confirmed by the FCC

Image
For a device that's rumored to be launching in December , the Galaxy Note 10 Lite (SM-N770) has made surprisingly few unofficial appearances ever since we exclusively revealed such a device is in the works . The Galaxy S10 Lite, the other flagship spin-off Samsung is making, is also rumored for a December launch and has been considerably less shy. We have seen an online benchmark , confirmation on its battery size , and even an FCC certification for the Galaxy S10 Lite while the Note 10 Lite continues to play hide and seek, but things may be changing soon. On November 26, the FCC certified the Galaxy Note 10 Lite's S Pen , confirming at least one feature for the phone. Bluetooth-enabled S Pen to accompany the Galaxy Note 10 Lite The FCC documents reveal that the Galaxy Note 10 Lite will have a Bluetooth-enabled S Pen like the one seen on the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Note 10. That shouldn't be surprising, and we would be more interested to learn whether it will also
