Motorola One and One Power offer the notch on the cheap

Image
After months of leaks and rumors, the Motorola One and One Power are finally official. The Lenovo-owned company introduced the two phones just in time for IFA 2018. These are Motorola's first smartphones featuring a notch, so if you're a fan of this popular design trend you're probably going to be quite excited about the two new models. The One and One Power are also part of the Android One family, so this means you'll get near-stock Android experience and fast updates. Motorola pushes out two new Android One devices So what's the difference between the two devices? Well for starters the Motorola One features a 5.9-inch display with 1080p resolution and a shiny glass body. In contrast, the One Power has a larger 6.2-inch FHD+ screen onboard and boasts a matte polycarbonate body. When it comes to specs, the One Power is the more powerful affair. It relies on a Snapdragon 636 chipset, while the One has to make do with a Snapdragon 625. However, both include 4

Huawei’s P20 Pro gets four new color variants, including two made from leather [Gallery]

Image
Huawei's IFA 2018 hasn't resulted in too many hardware announcements , but as we look forward to the debut of the Mate 20 series in October , Huawei has just launched some new color options for its popular P20 family. The best gifts for Android users The P20 Pro got a lot of attention earlier this year – as well as a glowing review from us  – for its impressive cameras, build, and design. Now, Huawei is building on that with two new color options that follow the lead of the gradients that were introduced at launch. The new "Morpho Aurora" is similar to the Twilight color that arrived at launch, but with a darker black towards the bottom. Pearl White, on the other hand, has a subtle gradient that Huawei says "exudes elegance." At IFA 2018, Huawei also announced the launch of two new gradient variants for the HUAWEI P20 Series: Morpho Aurora and Pearl White , expanding its range of gradient colors to four. When creating these t

New leak of Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro rears surfaces

Image
We've already seen glimpses of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro  showing off its triple rear camera setup, but the standard Huawei Mate 20  has not been seen. The latest leak shows off the back of both devices. While they share a lot of features, the camera setup is slightly different. The Mate 20 Pro (right) has this strange square layout, with the fourth module being the dual flash. The standard Mate 20 uses a P20 Pro -like vertical setup but centered on the device. A few other details in this leak shows us that the Leica partnership and branding remain, as well as the existence of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which is the best kind of fingerprint sensor. Rumors claim that the Pro model will have a fingerprint sensor under the display, and this may still be possible as it wouldn't be the first phone to have two fingerprint sensors. Other expected specs are a Kirin 980 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a big 4,200mAh battery, and Android 9 Pie . We also expect t

HTC U12 life hands-on review

Image
Introduction Remember when HTC had a really good story as to why the HTC U12+ carries the "Plus" moniker in the absence of a vanilla version? Well, we do and we're not above bringing it up, purely for the comedic effect. HTC was quite adamant that the U12+ would be the sole representative of the U12 family. And the "Plus" suffix was simply there as a way of letting consumers know that the phone was good enough to compete with any other smartphone that carries the "Plus" moniker like the iPhone 8 Plus or the Galaxy S9+. Enter the HTC U12 Life - the proverbial wrecking ball to that particular PR-infused stack of cards, that is the original U12+ naming story. All joking aside, HTC hasn't really been doing all too well lately, so we are pretty happy to see any new model unveiling. HTC U12 life specs Body: Plastic (plastic frame and back panel); 158.5 x 75.4 x 8.3 mm; 175 g Screen: 6.0-inch, 2160x1080 IPS LCD, 402 PPI Rear

Samsung has the Galaxy S9 DeX Pad on sale for just $38 today

Image
Right now, Samsung is offering its DeX Pad for just $37.50, which is more than $60 off and the best price we can find on it. The DeX Pad lets you take your Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+ and turn it into the brains of a computer and puts your work on a larger display. Once you dock your phone, it launches a special DeX mode on the connected monitor and lets you open up various applications as separate windows. You can connect a mouse and keyboard to it as well to maximize your productivity, or just use the touchscreen of the phone to act as a touchpad for the monitor. Beyond transforming your phone into a mobile computer, the DeX Pad also charges it quickly. The pad comes with a Fast Charge wall charger and USB-C cable to help you quickly top off your device's charge. Inside the DeX Pad is a fan to regulate the temperature of it, and Samsung includes an HDMI cable to help you get connected. See at Samsung #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnw

Hands-on with the Sony Xperia XZ3: The first exciting Sony phone in years

Image
Sony still refreshes its flagship phones every few months, but the design doesn't usually change much from one generation to the next. The new Xperia XZ3 does indeed have a very "Sony" look, but the phone is more different than you'd expect from the press renders. Don't get me wrong—this is still a Sony phone with all the questionable hardware and software decisions that come with it. However, it's the most modern-looking Sony phone I've used. The display is the biggest upgrade over the XZ2. The XZ3 has a sizeable 6-inch curved OLED panel. It's an 18:9 display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440. That's a serious step up from the flat LCDs the company used on phones previously. I was quite impressed with the quality of the display, too. It was bright and readable even under the harsh display lighting, and Sony says it supports HDR content as well. I suspect this is a Samsun OLED panel, but Samsung's phones use a slightly taller aspect

Deal: TCL 55-inch 4K HDR Roku TV For $549 – August 2018

Image
Newegg Flash is currently running a sale on TCL's very popular 55-inch Roku TV , which includes 4K HDR and Dolby Vision support. This is priced at $549 right now, which is down from its original price of $899. That's good for a whopping 39-percent off. This also brings it back down to its all-time lowest price, which makes it a perfect time to pick one up. The TCL 55-inch Roku TV here is not the regular 4K TV that TCL sells. This is the higher-end model, which includes Dolby Vision. With Dolby Vision, you are going to get an even better picture than with just HDR10 support. The colors are going to be more rich and vibrant. You'll really be able to tell the difference, and you won't want to go back after you've experienced this. This TV does also have a few ports, including three HDMI ports, a composite and component port, as well as a couple USB 3.0 ports and an Ethernet port. This is going to allow you to add other peripherals to the TV, as well as plugging it i

This Note 9 vs iPhone X machine drop test can break your heart, too

Image
Samsung has a stake in Corning, the makers of the tough Gorilla Glass material that most modern flagships use to prevent them from shattering into pieces when they hit the ground. Thus, it's only logical that one of its famed phone lines - the Note phablets with S Pen stylus - is usually where every new generation of Gorilla Glass makes a cameo. Thus, when Corning invited us to observe their R&D factory process not long ago, we assumed that the newly-minted Gorilla Glass 6 we saw there will debut on the Note 9. Corning, however, sent us a memo that the first ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Huawei Mate 20 'series' announcement set for October 16 in London

Image
Including its Honor sub-brand, Huawei has not one and not two, but three impressive smartphones powered by that fancy new 7nm-based Kirin 980 processor in the pipeline. And alongside the announcement of four snazzy P20 Pro models, the world's second-largest handset vendor has just unveiled the official launch date of the Mate 20 "Series" at IFA Berlin. The highly anticipated Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are scheduled to see daylight in London on October 16, although actual sales will probably kick off a little further down the line. Obviously, US ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Qualcomm's AptX Adaptive codec aims to make Bluetooth headphones not suck

Image
The algorithm can adapt to your environment and kind of audio you're listening to. Qualcomm's been on a mission to make Bluetooth headphones not so terrible with its AptX audio codec, and at IFA 2018, the company announced the next generation of this — AptX Adaptive. As convenient as wireless headphones are, the Bluetooth connection they rely on isn't always the best. Sometimes your audio will cut out, certain environments cause for a lot of interference, and when stacked up against wired connections, sound quality can pale in comparison. AptX already does a good job at making wireless audio sound better, but AptX Adaptive wants to take this to the next level. As the "adaptive" name suggests, this new version of the codec is able to adjust the way it works based on a couple key factors. For example, AptX Adaptive can sense the RF environment around you, and if it detects a lot of other wireless signals bouncing around, will compress your own transmi

Kirin 980 and AI Cube: Huawei gives a new house to Alexa

Image
For the second time, Huawei CEO Richard Yu gave a keynote speech at the IFA. It was not about a new smartphone, but mainly about two other topics: AI and Smart Home. The new Kirin 980 processor sets seven world records, as Richard Yu pointed out. Everyone should protect themselves from ransomware. Do you agree? The Kirin 980 is the first processor to be manufactured using the 7-nanometer process. It is also the first with Cortex A76 cores, the first with a Mali-G76 GPU, the first with a Cat.21 LTE module, the first with two NPUs and the first that supports the fast LPDDR4X memory. Encore is the Balong 5000 modem, which supports 5G. At the heart of the Kirin 980 are the two NPUs that are available for local AI tasks. The two processing units are designed to make the new processor even better for tasks that benefit from AI mechanisms. The image recognition now achieves 4,500 images per minute, an increase of 120 percent compared to t

Oppo F9 Pro now on sale in India in various online and offline stores

Image
Oppo released its gorgeous mid-ranger, the F9 as the F9 Pro in India just last week. Pre-orders started the minute the device was announced and today the smartphone can be found in online and offline stores. Unlike some smartphones from the company, the F9 Pro can be found in more than one retailer - Amazon India, Flipkart and PayTM Mall. All prices seem leveled off and just to remind you, the handset ships with only one storage configuration - 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage while color variants are Sunrise Red and Twilight Blue. The asking price is INR 23,990 ($338) and all the online retailers have EMI and cashback offers ready. You can also check some of the offline stores as most of them have the device in stock as well. If you are still wondering whether or not the handset is worth your hard-earned money, we suggest you check out our article and video on its key features while the full review is still baking and decide for yourself. The Skagen Falster 2 and Diesel Full Guard 2.5 are gorgeous smartwatches

Image
It's time to stop the narrative that smartwatches look like little wrist computers. Google has a new version of Wear OS to put on display, and though it's coming to many older smartwatches it's always fun to pair it with some brand new hardware. Fossil Group obliged, launching the new Skagen Falster 2 and Diesel Full Guard 2.5 smartwatches at IFA 2018 — they're both truly beautiful, but also completely different in their design approaches. Skagen is clearly extremely proud of this design, even though it isn't dramatically changed from the original Falster that was launched at the start of the year. But there are critical updates here that mostly come down to the new model being standardized on the same platform as the rest of the Fossil Group portfolio. The Falster 2 is now swimproof, has an advanced heart rate monitor, has NFC for Google Pay, GPS for activity tracking and two programmable side buttons. This thing is gorgeous,

Native Fingerprint Scanning Coming To Chrome OS: Report

Image
Chrome OS may soon support native fingerprint scanning, as indicated by newly spotted commits which point to an enrollment process set to immediately follow a standard login. The latest code, published under the heading "cros: Add fingerprint setup screen as a post-login screen." has actually already been merged and all indications appear to show that the feature is added at the system level. As noted in the heading, the associated code brings forward a new U.I. to enroll fingerprints following an initial login and presumably only on hardware that supports the feature or with peripherals that support the feature. Chrome OS has had some fingerprint reading capabilities since related settings were added way back in 2017. However, that couldn't really be a native feature since users had to supply their own external compatible scanner. In this new instance, the system is prepared to enroll new fingerprints with a set number of attempts being allowed and complete with error m

Huawei’s new Kirin 980 will power the Mate 20/Pro on October 16th

Image
Most Android flagships today pack Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset , but Huawei might be the new king of the hill. Today at IFA 2018, Huawei unveiled its in-house Kirin 980 chipset and it packs a huge punch. The best gifts for Android users The Kirin 980 is the world's first 7nm chipset and features improved performance, an upgraded GPU and NPU, all with 40% better power efficiency. The octa-core chipset is based on Cortex A76-based cores which are 75% more powerful than previous generations while being 58% more efficient. AI is once again a big focus here with Huawei's Dual-NPU for AI processing. Huawei CEO Richard Yu explains: Last year, we showed the world the potential of On-Device AI with the Kirin 970, and this year, we've designed an all-around powerhouse that not only features outstanding AI capabilities, but also brings cutting-edge raw performance to consumers. Equipped with all-new CPU, GPU and Dual NPU, the Kirin 980 is the

Huawei has shipped more than 20 million handsets from the P20 and Mate 10 series

Image
Huawei just announced its next-generation HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset along with new P20 and P20 Pro color variants and AI Cube smarts speaker and GPS Locator . Yes, we know it's not the most exciting keynote although, the chipset makes it worthwhile to some extent. On stage, Richard Yu, an executive director and CEO of the Huawei Consumer Business group, took the time to boast about the successful P20 and Mate 10 series launch at the beginning of 2018. He revealed that both flagship lineups exceeded the 10 million shipments mark worldwide. Yet, the P20-series milestone is a bit more impressive since the P20 and P20 Pro have been out for about 5 months. Still, it doesn't sound too far-fetched as it shipped more phones than Apple in Q2 and secured the top position in the Chinese market while breaking the market share record in the country. If it continues at this pace, the Chinese tech giant might very well end up sitting on the throne next year . #Google

The Motorola One is a slick budget iPhone X clone

Image
Motorola has officially announced the Motorola One and Motorola One Power, the company's pair of midrange Android phones with distinctly iPhone X-style notches. The Motorola One is the smaller of the pair. It has a 5.9-inch HD display, Gorilla Glass 2.5 on the front and back, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, and a smaller 3,000mAh battery. It's set to be widely available for €299 (roughly $350 USD) in Europe, Latin America, and Asia starting in October. The Motorola One Power, on the other hand, features a metal back and bumps things up to a 6.2-inch screen at a higher Full HD+ resolution, a more powerful Snapdragon 636 chip, and a massive 5,000mAh battery that the company says should be good for up to two days of battery life. Unlike the One, the One Power is only set to be released in India in October. (The price will be announced closer to its release.) The Motorola One i
