Huawei P20 Lite leaks out with pair of rear cameras

Image
On March 27, Huawei is hosting an event where the company is expected to announce not just one, but three new smartphones. As is typical with this sort of thing, Huawei is going to announce one new handset and two variants. The Huawei P20 will be the middle device in this new lineup, with the P20 Lite filling out the bottom and the P20 Plus sitting high and mighty at the top . Each of the devices will boast different specs in key areas, helping to define each of the new handsets in their respective categories. Those lines may get blurred a bit, though, as it sounds like the Huawei P20 Lite isn't going to be a slouch of a device at all. Based on information obtained by VentureBeat , the P20 Lite is going to feature a 5.6-inch display with a resolution of 1080×2250, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in storage. There will be an octa-core Kirin 659 processor under the hood to run the show. Around back, there will be a pair of 16MP cameras, the battery will measure in at 3520

You can use this to check a candidate password to see if it has been used before… in one of the many hacked credential dumps that Mr. Hunt has accumulated. Mostly, this API will be of interest for Web sites and Web services that allow users to create their own password-protected accounts. You can rapidly check the user's candidate password to see if has already been pwned, perhaps rejecting it if it has. There will be scenarios where you want to check this client-side, though: Your Android team can move faster than your Web service team, and so you would like to check for pwnage on the client side now, while waiting for the Web service team to integrate the check on their side The password will be used for files that mostly will remain local on the device

Doogee is the most exciting phone maker you've never heard of

Image
When it comes to smartphones, everyone looks to Apple or Samsung or any of a handful of established phone makers like LG or Google or Huawei to provide innovation, but I think it's time to start paying attention to a virtually unknown company called Doogee . Doogee (as tempting as it is to pronounce the name like a certain kid TV doctor, it's actually doo-jee) is a Chinese company that mostly makes budget phones you couldn't pay me to ever use. But it's not these budget phones that are so fascinating — Doogee's actually busting its ass to make some legitimately futuristic phones that keep making me turn my head. Read more... Samsung Galaxy S9 vs Asus ZenFone 5Z vs Sony Xperia XZ2: Price, Specifications Compared

Image
While the Samsung Galaxy S9 is yet to hit stores anywhere around the globe, Sony earlier this week brought the Xperia XZ2 and Asus recently unveiled the ZenFone 5Z to counter the upcoming Galaxy S flagship. Interestingly, all three smartphones come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC - of course, not the Indian version of the Galaxy S9 that will be available with an Exynos 9810 SoC . There are also other similarities, including base models with 4GB of RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo . The top-end models also come with premium builds in multiple colour options to convince a large number of customers. Here's our take on what are the key differences between the Samsung Galaxy S9, Asus ZenFone 5Z, and Sony Xperia XZ2. Samsung Galaxy S9 vs Asus ZenFone 5Z vs Sony Xperia XZ2 price Samsung Galaxy S9 price is set at $719.99 (approximately Rs. 46,600) for the 64GB variant, while the US price details of its 128GB and 256GB variants are yet to emerge. The smartphone will go on sale

The Netgear R6700 wireless router and CM500 cable modem are bundled together for $88

Image
Free yourself from your ISP and save money, too. Amazon is offering Netgear's Nighthawk R7600 router and CM500 modem bundled together for just $88.46 right now. Considering, the Nighthawk R6700 router is $80 on its own, and the CM500 modem is $48, you're saving a lot of money with this bundle. This price is $10 better than the previous deal we've seen for it, and the lowest we've ever seen for this bundle. The Nighthawk R6700 is an awesome router with 19,560 user reviews giving it 4.2 stars. It has high-powered antennas and has technology that boosts range, speed, and performance. It works well in homes with a lot of Wi-Fi devices, which most homes are these days. We always recommend buying your own cable modem to avoid the rental fees major ISPs charge. And the CM500 is a great machine to do that with because it's a modern device capable of handling some of the fastest plans available. With DOCSIS 3.0 and 16x4 channel bonding, the CM500 is capa

Huawei P20 Lite Breaks Cover Ahead of March Announcement

Huawei P20 Lite Breaks Cover Ahead of March Announcement Posted by Evan Selleck on Feb 28, 2018 in Huawei Huawei has three phones coming down the pipe, each of which is expected to be announced at an event in Paris, France, which is scheduled to take place on March 27 . The Huawei-branded P20 will be the star of the show, but it will be bringing with it two other variants: The P20 Lite and the P20 Plus. Each of these devices will boast varying specifications, but if the latest report on the P20 Lite is any indicator, it looks like the company won't be trying to skimp on the features in its smallest option of the three new handsets. VentureBeat has a new report on the P20 Lite, not only publishing the first image of the handset, but also revealing a few key specifications based on information gathered from an unnamed source. The P20 Lite is expected to boast a 5.6-inch display, which should have a resolution of 2250×1080, with a near bezel-less design a

Chrome OS testing new wallpaper picker and system tray dark theme, you can try them now

Image
With its various beta and development channels, Google is constantly testing new features for Chrome OS. Now, we're getting a peek at two new changes in the pipeline — a redesigned wallpaper picker and dark theme. The best gifts for Android users First, let's take a closer look at this new dark theme. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem system-wide, but it's great to see nonetheless. As ChromeUnboxed shows off, the system tray in Chrome OS now has an optional dark theme. Enabled through flags, you can activate this feature to toggle on a dark theme for the tray and the quick settings within. Unfortunately, it doesn't extend to any other parts of the OS, but that's just for now… To try this out for yourself, you'll need to be on the developer or canary channels for Chrome OS, and then head to  chrome://flags and search for "new system menu." Then toggle the dark mode, and reboot to apply. At the same time, a new wallpap

Google I/O 2018 schedule is up: New things for Wear, Chrome OS, Assistant, but no sign of TV or Auto yet

Image
... The Google I/O 2018 ticket sign up registration is now closed , but there's something else on the I/O website that should grab your interest: the event schedule is now up and you can see that there might be two main keynotes on May 8, one from 10am to 11:30pm and one from 12:45pm to 1:45pm. I don't think this format was used in the previous years: it used to be one long main keynote. Aside from the main event, the schedule has a long list of sessions to look through just to try to gauge a bit what the next focus points for Google will be over the next year. There's never anything super juicy there or any large slip, as Google often tends to leave a few sessions out from the schedule because their name is reliant on something being announced in the main keynote. But still, I took a quick look and found a few interesting/telling sessions: And there are many sessions for developers about Kotlin, Firebase, Flutter, Instant apps, AR/VR, develo

From Nokia 808 to Pixel 2: phone cameras got drastically better with time

Image
Say what you will about the lack of dual-camera or optical zoom shenanigans on Google's Pixel phones, but they have consistently been making excellent pictures with the hardware at their disposal, and so much so, that the Pixel 2 currently stands at the top of the DxOMark chart.  While the camera testers' methods and ranking scheme have been a subject of criticism and scrutiny by shutterbugs, DxOMark has been probing digital cameras and lenses for many years, making a name for themselves, and, about 6 years ago, they started running cell phone cameras through the paces, ...

OnePlus 6 supposedly leaks with iPhone X notch and glass back

Image
There's also an updated fingerprint sensor and two rear cameras. The OnePlus 5T is still a relatively new phone at just four months old, but the mobile industry stops for no one. Two images of a OnePlus 6 recently popped up on our radar, and if they're to be believed, OnePlus will be the next company to jump on board the infamous notch train. As you can see, the OnePlus 6 will come equipped with very slim bezels. This isn't surprising considering we saw a similar design with the OnePlus 5T, but what is different is the notch at the top of the screen. This is very clearly a direct copy of what Apple did with the iPhone X , but unlike that phone, you won't find any special face-tracking sensors – just a speaker for phone calls and the front-facing camera. A glass back could mean OnePlus finally adopts wireless charging. Moving to the back of the phone, the OnePlus 6 could be the first OnePlus phone to adopt a glass back. This would allow for wireless

BlackBerry has proudly announced over on Twitter some good news that will make loyal fans in the United States delighted. The BlackBerry KEYone Black Edition will be ready for sale on key online retailers in the country after months of waiting. Well, that was before. BlackBerry has finally decided to sell the KEYOne to more people. From being an exclusive phone offering by AT&T , the device was also spotted in a Chinese online store. The BlackBerry KEYone Black Edition then reached India and then expanded to other regions . No, actually, the Galaxy S9 doesn't have the exact same design as the Galaxy S8

Image
Months of leaks and rumors appeared to paint a complete picture of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship Android phones. But when Samsung finally unveiled them earlier this week, we learned that all of those leaks didn't actually paint a complete picture. The new flagship smartphones were branded "boring" ahead of their launch because Samsung had seemingly chosen to reuse last year's Galaxy S8 design for this year's new Galaxy S9. This notion was then exacerbated when a report emerged from an insider suggested that Samsung had actually been planning a substantial redesign for the Galaxy S9. The redesigned Galaxy S9 had reportedly reached the prototyping phase, but the company then cancelled it for reasons unknown. Whatever the case, Samsung's new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ wound up launching with a design that is indeed quite similar to last year's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Despite what you've read, however, the claim that it&#

This is the Huawei P20 Lite

Image
EXCLUSIVE: Huawei is preparing to launch its annual spring flagship, its P-series line, on March 27 in Paris. And while most of the hype from both the company and interested observers surrounds the triple-rear-camera P20 Pro, there are two other models in the lineup, and all three feature 18:9, nearly bezel-less displays — along with a controversial "notch" along the top of the screen to house a selfie cam and sensors. Huawei P20 (with two, not three, rear cameras) pic.twitter.com/GRJbIS8NNY — Evan Blass (@evleaks) February 26, 2018 Even the most modest of these handsets, the P20 Lite (pictured up top) is no slouch with respect to specifications. According to someone who's spent time using the device, it's a 5.6-inch phone with a 1080 x 2250 fullscreen display and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Powered by an octa core Kirin 659 chipset (in a 4 x 2.38GHz + 4 x 1.7GHz big.LITTLE configuration), P20 Lite will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo and contain 4G

YouTube reactivates ads for Logan Paul, but he’s on thin ice w/ 90-day probation

Image
After causing trouble throughout the YouTube community earlier this year, YouTube made the decision to disable ads for one of its biggest creators, Logan Paul. At the time, it was unclear how long the suspension would last, but now we're getting the answer as Paul's ads have returned. The best gifts for Android users In case you missed it earlier this year, Logan Paul caused controversy after a trip to Japan where one of his daily vlogs involved filming a suicide victim in the country's Aokigahara forest. YouTube took some action against him shortly after that, but after things died down again, Paul only made it worse by posting a video which showed him tasering dead rats and pretending to give CPR to a fish. Following that, YouTube made the decision to disable ad revenue on Paul's channel, at least temporarily. As Polygon reports, ads were restored to Logan Paul's YouTube channel earlier this week, about two weeks after the initial

Amazon acquires Ring’s smart doorbell business

Image
The big tech companies continue to gobble up the competition. Reuters is reporting that Amazon has agreed to acquire Ring for more than $1 billion. Ring is a company best known for doorbell security cameras, but they also offer other smart home devices. The smart home market is very important to Amazon , and now they have one of the biggest up-and-coming players. Ring is expected to operate under its own branding like business as usual. We can expect to see a much greater integration with Amazon products and services. Ring already integrates with Amazon Alexa really well. If you're an existing Ring user, you probably won't notice anything different. The acquisition ensures that your Ring services will be working for a long time. The problem with this acquisition is something that has been happening in the tech industry for a while. "Success" for startups is no longer defined by how well the business does. It's defined by getting acquired by Amazon or Goog

Sony Xperia XZ2 or XZ2 Compact: which one would you buy?

Image
So, Sony has a new set of flagships — the pocketable Xperia XZ2 Compact and the shiny Xperia XZ2. Unlike other "mini" or "lite" phones, the Compact makes no compromise in terms of hardware — it's a heavy-hitting top-tier phone through and through, with an HDR display, stereo speakers, Snapdragon 845, 4K HDR video recording, and Sony's super slow motion on board. Well, it does pass up on some of the features of the bigger XZ2, like a glass back and the Dynamic Vibration System. But it makes up for it with a lower price tag — we expect the XZ2 compact would cost about ...

Poll results: Sony Xperia XZ2 gets a "meh" out of 10

Image
So, the Sony Xperia XZ2 is a different beast in regards to what we are used to seeing from Sony. It's got an arched back with a super-shiny finish, an oddly-placed camera, a fingerprint scanner, an 18:9 screen on the front and it's... a bit thick. Still, the Sony Omnibalance look is there, most evident when you look at the device from the front, and we appreciate the fresh take — something that Sony wasn't keen on doing for the past few years. Not only does it look different, the XZ2 packs a slew of new features — some special, others not so much — and we have to say, it's an ...

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 has thinner bezels than the Galaxy S8, but is still more durable

Image
You'd certainly be forgiven if you looked at the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 side-by-side and mistook them for each other. Aside from new colors and cameras , they are essentially the same design. That said, Samsung has managed to make some slight changes, such as slightly thinner bezels on the S9… The best gifts for Android users In press images and in person, the Galaxy S9's bezels look about the same size as last year's counterpart, and the same is true of the Galaxy S9+. However, as SamMobile points out, the size of the bezels on the top and bottom of each phone are actually a decent amount slimmer compared to last year. For the smaller S9, the top bezel measures in at 8.18mm, 0.48mm thinner than the S8. On the bottom, that change is slightly more significant a 0.76mm, measuring in at 6.96mm in total. The Galaxy S9+ sees similar changes. The top bezel lands at 8.21mm with a 0.39mm reduction, while the bottom bezel measures in at 6.99mm. Im

Xiaomi plans to enter the US market, getting ‘resources’ ready

Image
Xiaomi is one of the top smartphone manufacturers in global markets, but one thing is missing from its portfolio – the presence of its products in the United States market. But in an interview, a top executive of the Chinese company says that Xiaomi may be well on its way to entering the US market soon, and that it is just "building its resources" for that eventuality. Xiaomi recently put to paper a deal with global software giant Microsoft in terms of exploring cooperation in the areas of cloud computing, AI and hardware. When asked if this is the signal of the Chinese company finally entering the US market, Wang Xiang, head of Xiaomi's international business, was cautiously optimistic. "We always look seriously at the U.S. market. The U.S. market is very important to us but we are very, very carefully building our resources to serve the U.S. consumer," Wang said in a CNBC interview. The uniqueness of the US market – where people buy phones from

Best rugged cases to keep your Galaxy S9/S9+ safe and sound

Image
If your motto is "a working phone is better than a broken one", and you're looking to protect your investment in either the Galaxy S9 or S9+, then you're at the right place. We've decided to compile a list of the best tough Galaxy S9/S9+ cases out on the market right now, and we will be updating it regularly, as more case makers launch products for the latest crop of Galaxy phones.  It is true that overly bulky cases can ruin the looks of beautifully crafted devices, such as the new Galaxies, but then again, there's nothing worse than a bunch of scratches, or even worse — cracks — on the back of your new, $900 phone. That's why, if you want more protection, you'd better prepare for a little bit of bulk on top. Although the glass backs of the phones are somewhat resistant to scratches, a couple of months of sliding on random surfaces and jumbling around your pocket with who knows what else inside, will definitely result in unpleasant abr

Galaxy S9 should land Android 9 faster

Image
VIDEO The new features that the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update brings to the table, and to the newly-announced Galaxy S9 and S9+ in particular, aren't overwhelming, but one of them is of particular note - Project Treble .  It is Google 's final push to remedy slow Android updates by separating the basic, core Android framework, from the manufacturer image, thus allowing it to be updated much faster than before, as it will be uniform across the board. There are a few Project Treble phones currently on the market, like Huawei 's Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro , but those launched with Oreo from the get-go, like Samsung 's 2017 darlings Galaxy S8 or Note 8 , won't be among those even after their respective Oreo updates . The reason is that these were never crafted with the thought to have their Android core split from Samsung's Experience UI overlay. If you want major Android software updates to happe

Only two Android brands score reasonably well in analysis of security updates

Image
An analysis of security updates for different smartphone brands reveals the safest brands to buy, and it doesn't make for great reading. Only two Android brands managed halfway decent ratings, with many big brands being rated poorly … SecurityLab tweeted a table which examined four different factors: The shortest time to publish a security update following discovery of a vulnerability The maximum delay in making the update available to all Whether or not updates were independent of carriers How long a device is supported with security updates These were further broken down – for example, in the shortest time to update, this was split by the first device and other devices from the same manufacturer. The top-rated brand was Apple, which benefits from making both hardware and software, and scored green in all categories. Of Android brands, just two scored reasonably highly. Essential Phone and Google both got the fastest security updates out in a matt
