Samsung’s UI fluidity problem needs fixing

Image
The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ are two of the most feature-packed and powerful smartphones released this year. It is powered by a 10nm, 64-bit octa-core processor (Exynos 8895 in most markets and Snapdragon 835 in China and Norther America), 4GB/6GB of RAM, and 64GB of fast UFS 2.1 internal storage. Both chipsets come with powerful GPUs – Mali-G71MP20 (371.2 GFLOPS) in the Exynos 8895 and Adreno 540 (576 GFLOPS) in the Snapdragon 835 – that are more than enough to drive those beautiful high-resolution Infinity Displays. The phones ace most of the synthetic benchmarks, be it CPU or GPU related tasks. However, the age-old Samsung problem still exists: UI fluidity. Samsung may have made a futuristic-looking, shiny UI for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but that hasn’t improved software fluidity. Don’t get me wrong. Even the heaviest of apps and games open fast and run without breaking a sweat, but I still notice lag here and a dropped frame there from time to time. For example, I can see a lot

Feast your eyes upon the Galaxy Note 8 in these leaked renders

Image
Reliable tipster OnLeaks has teamed up with online publication 91Mobiles to release a set of renders of the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 , together with a 360-degree, showcasing the handset from all angles. Just like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the Galaxy Note 8 sports a near bezel-less design, though it’s slightly thicker to house the S Pen and the refreshed camera, and its frame is more square to help with ergonomics. What’s even more interesting, however, is the arrangement of the dual-camera, LED flash, heart rate monitor and fingerprint reader, which are all positioned next to each other with a protruding piece of glass protecting them. According to 91Mobiles , the Galaxy Note 8 measures in at approximately 162.4 x 62.4 x 8.4mm, with the thickness jumping up to 9.5mm when you factor in the camera bump. Its weight is currently unknown. As for specifications, recent leaks and rumors suggest that the Galaxy Note 8 will pack a 6.3-inch edge-to-edge Infinity Display (18.5:9 aspect r

AT&T now rolling out June security update for the Galaxy Note 4

AT&T has started rolling out this month’s security maintenance release (SMR), which includes 96 fixes for Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) in the Android operating system and 23 additional patches for Galaxy-branded smartphones, for its carrier-branded variant of the Galaxy Note 4 in the United States. Samsung launches a Rose Pink color variant of the Galaxy S8+ in Taiwan

Image
Samsung will launch a Rose Pink color variant of the Galaxy S8+ in Taiwan next month. The handset will be priced at TW 27,900 ($920) and will only be available for a short period of time, before disappearing from the firm’s online store. Obviously the changes are purely cosmetic, meaning this particular variant of the Galaxy S8+ will continue to feature a 6.2-inch Infinity Display, an in-house Exynos 8895 processor, a 12MP rear-facing camera, an 8MP front-facing camera and a 3,500mAh Li-Ion battery. This news comes shortly after Samsung made the decision  to rebrand the Coral Blue, Maple Gold and Orchid Grey color variants of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ for the Taiwanese market to Ice Lake Blue, Smoked Purple Grey, and Quicksand Gold. It’s unclear whether the company is planning on bringing the Rose Pink version of the Galaxy S8+ to other regions — but we’re hoping it is. After all, it needs to keep selling units, and releasing new colors is one of the best ways of doing so.

Galaxy S8 sales surpass 1.3 million in South Korea

Samsung has announced that sales of its flagship  Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in South Korea recently surpassed the 1.3 million mark, with around 11,000 to 12,000 customers purchasing a unit every day, which is the highest figure ever recorded in the region. On Monday, it was also revealed that the firm had set another record: its share price rose to 2.41 million won ($2,120). Obviously, that isn’t only the result of the Galaxy S8  taking the market by storm, but it’s definitely playing a big part in its success. In an effort to maintain momentum, Samsung will reportedly release two more color variants of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ — Blue Coral and Pink Gold — in the region in July, and aims to launch the Galaxy Note FE shortly after to bolster sales. Galaxy J7 (2017) to launch in the US as the Galaxy Halo

The Galaxy J7 (2017) will launch on Cricket Wireless in the United States as the Galaxy Halo, according to reliable tipster Evan Blass. There’s no word on whether the handset will sport any changes on the inside, but it looks like there are a number of cosmetic differences, including a redesigned camera configuration. It’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Halo will be available in four colors — black, blue, gold and pink — and will carry a price tag of approximately $380 when it hits the shelves later this year. Unfortunately, there’s no telling exactly

Samsung took the number-two spot in the wearable market for Q1 of 2017

Samsung was the second-largest global wearable vendor during the first quarter of this year with a total market share of 12.8 percent, reports  The Korea Herald . However, that figure doesn’t seem half as impressive when you take into account that Apple topped the table with an eye-watering share of 53 percent. As you’d expect, the Gear S3 classic and Gear S3 frontier made up the majority of Samsung’s sales during the January-March period, though several promotions, which include awarding a free  Gear Fit 2 to every customer who picked up a Galaxy S7 after the Galaxy S8 hit the shelves, also contributed to the firm’s success. The main reason customers have been picking up the Gear S3 frontier , and now the Gear S3 classic, instead of the Apple Watch is because they feature cellular capabilities — so users can leave their phone at home and still receive phone calls and text messages on their wrist.
