Upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 will get its very own leather covers

Image
There's a lot of excitement for Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone. It may just be the company's first mass-market foldable smartphone, given that it's said to cost under $1,000 . Like it does for many of its devices, Samsung is going to sell some accessories for the new Galaxy Fold as well. We hear that there will be leather covers on offer for the Galaxy Fold 2 . The premium leather material would certainly add a touch of class to the clamshell foldable smartphone. Leather covers will be available for the Galaxy Fold 2 This won't be Samsung's first time offering a leather cover for a foldable smartphone. It already does this for the Galaxy Fold . Made of genuine Italian leather, one of these covers for the original Galaxy Fold is going to set you back $129.99. You can expect the leather cover for the Galaxy Fold 2 to be in the same price range. Genuine accessories tend to be expensive after all. We also hear that the cover will be available in blac

Fresh Galaxy S11+ render shows a more normal rear camera layout

Image
The very first unofficial CAD renders of the Galaxy S11+ were leaked online last month. They showed a rather bonkers layout for the handset's rear camera system. It was later speculated that perhaps they weren't representative of the final design. The speculation appears to have been true. The source that leaked those renders has now posted a fresh Galaxy S11+ render. It shows a much more normal looking layout for the rear camera. What it obviously doesn't do is confirm the official camera specs, but that's another matter altogether. Galaxy S11+ camera layout may not be bonkers after all It's said that the initial renders were based on an early prototype of the Galaxy S11+. That's entirely possible as CAD renders are never fully representative of the final product. The fresh render leaked today is claimed to be based on the latest prototype and the source assumes that it shows the final design. As far as the camera specs are concerned, rumor has it tha

Our favorite Samsung phone this year is the Galaxy Note 10+

Image
2019 was an extremely busy year for Samsung. The Korean giant launched an insane number of devices: Three different Galaxy S10 models , two Galaxy Note 10 models , a foldable phone , a flagship tablet, countless mid-range Galaxy A devices, multiple Galaxy M series phones, two smartwatches , and a pair of wireless buds . In our opinion, the Galaxy Fold was the best device to come out of Samsung's stable because of what it represents , but which of those numerous devices was our overall favorite? Well, as the title of this article has already revealed, it's the Galaxy Note 10+ , which offers a compelling experience unmatched by anything else that Samsung launched this year. The Galaxy Fold or the Galaxy S10+ may be excellent devices in their own right, but the Galaxy Note 10+ trumps both by being a complete package that brought some much-needed features to Samsung's flagship line, like support for up to 45W charging . Of course, it's also unique because of the S Pen,

Major smartphone brands in India to end online exclusivity in 2020

Image
Major smartphone brands in India, including Samsung, have reportedly decided to end online-exclusive models starting next year. A report in 91Mobiles , which quotes an office-bearer of the Mobile Dealers Association, Ahmedabad, and mentions a note sent by All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) to its members, states that Samsung, Vivo, Oppo, and Realme have agreed in writing to level the playing field for online and offline retailers in the country. The report is short on details on Samsung's plans but mentions specific changes promised by other major brands. If these companies stick to their word, the Indian smartphone market in 2020 could see the launch of new models at the same time, for the same price, and with the same offer for both online and offline partners. Xiaomi makes no such promises Interestingly, Xiaomi, India's largest smartphone brand and the company which kickstarted the trend of online-first and online-exclusive sales tactics, is not mentioned i

[Sponsored] MobileTrans lets you easily transfer your WhatsApp between Android and iPhone

Image
Switching to a brand new phone is exciting, but the process of transferring data from the old device to the new one can become frustrating without the proper set of tools. For example, attempting to transfer WhatsApp from Android to iPhone can often be a very confusing task. Normally, users who want to transfer data between iOS, Android & Windows Phone would rely on solutions provided by their handset's manufacturer. Samsung's Smart Switch makes the adoption of a new Galaxy phone a lot easier than it would've been without it, but it doesn't transfer data for every app that you may use. You'd think it would be easier transferring data from Android to Android. While the tech savvy users may be able to find their way around the different ways to go about this, most users still need assistance and would much rather prefer a simple software that gets the job done for them in a few clicks. WhatsApp is a very popular messaging app, yet it isn't covered by Sma

Galaxy Note 9 receiving fifth Android 10 beta update in South Korea

Image
It's not just the Galaxy S9 that's getting a new Android 10 beta update today. Samsung has also released another beta update for the Galaxy Note 9 . This is the fifth beta release for the year-old Note 9; it's available in Korea at this time but should soon be making its way to markets like India and the UK. Unlike the new Galaxy S9 update, the latest Galaxy Note 9 beta is pretty small and fixes only two bugs. It improves the display of quick panel icons in the notification shade and fixes an error with fingerprint authentication in Samsung apps like Samsung Pass and Samsung Pay. The previous beta for the Galaxy Note 9 was even smaller – it had just one bug fix, so there's a high chance the Note 9 will start getting the stable Android 10 update in the next week or so, at least for beta users. Nothing is certain, however, and we would recommend remaining skeptical until the stable update actually starts rolling out. For now, if you are using the Galaxy Note 9, you

Fourth Galaxy S9 Android 10 beta update released, fixes a slew of bugs

Image
The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are now receiving the fourth Android 10 beta update. The newest beta, with build number G960FXXU7ZSLC and G965FXXU7ZSLC for the S9 and S9+ respectively, is rolling out in India and the UK at the time of this writing. It's a 139 MB download that includes plenty of bug fixes, considerably more than the number of fixes that were introduced in the previous beta that was released a week ago . That doesn't mean Samsung has a lot of work left to do before it can release the stable Android 10 update for the Galaxy S9 and S9+. The final Android 10 beta for the Galaxy S10 series had a long list of bug fixes as well , but that didn't stop Samsung from pushing out the stable update to its 2019 flagship just a couple of days later . The same could happen in the case of the Galaxy S9/S9+ (and the Galaxy Note 9), though it probably won't be before January that the stable update makes an appearance. To download the latest Android 10 beta for your Ga

Samsung to unveil a new AI product named NEON at CES 2020

Image
Samsung will be unveiling a new AI product named NEON at CES 2020. The mysterious product is being developed by STAR Labs (Samsung Technology & Advanced Research Labs), an independent unit of Samsung Electronics, that states "human-level AI with the ability to speak, recognize, and think" as one of its goals. The Korean tech giant has created dedicated social media handles and a website for NEON. Everything that is known about NEON so far comes from the teasers posted by these handles. Even they don't reveal anything specific about the new AI product, but the constant use of "Have you ever met an 'ARTIFICIAL'?" in all its messages suggest NEON is probably more than an overhyped software feature for smartphones. You will soon meet #NEON pic.twitter.com/Sm1WbhG0Er — NEON (@neondotlife) December 23, 2019 Given Mistry's previous work and NEON's teasers, the new product will probably have an element of sci-fi to it. Interestingly,

Samsung’s new mid-range tablet could launch as the Galaxy Tab A4 S

Image
Early last month, a new Galaxy tablet with the model number SM-T307U was discovered on the Wi-Fi Alliance website. The same model has been now spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website along with the Galaxy Tab A4 S branding. Both these certifications suggest that the new tablet is set to hit the market soon. Galaxy Tab A4 S sounds like a needlessly complicated name that reveals very little about the device to the potential buyer. Thankfully, the device name listed on the Bluetooth certification website need not be final, as we have seen in the past. So, there is still a chance that this new mid-range Galaxy tablet could launch with a more familiar and informative name. Bluetooth SIG certification reveals next to nothing about upcoming devices, and so all that we know about this product is what we already published. The SM-T307U model number points to an 8-inch tablet with cellular connectivity (possibly a Sprint variant) for the US market. The Wi-Fi Alliance certification , meanw

Rumor: Galaxy S11 (and Fold 2) launch to take place on February 11

Image
It seems Samsung may be planning to launch the Galaxy S11 on a date much earlier than what has been rumored until this point. A couple of months ago, we had heard from one of our sources that the Galaxy S11 would be unveiled sometime in the third week of February next year. Recently, February 18 was suggested by well-known leakster Ice universe as the actual date for the Galaxy S11's Unpacked event , and now, Israeli website Girafa has published a report saying the announcement may happen on February 11. The Galaxy S11 launch will reportedly take place in San Francisco, USA, where the Galaxy S10 was unveiled as well . If the report is accurate, it would mean the Galaxy S11 will go official a couple of weeks ahead of MWC 2020, which is set to kick off on February 24. It would give Samsung extra time to keep the limelight on its new flagship before other manufacturers start showing off what they have to offer, and considering everything the Galaxy S11 is expected to bring to t

Samsung’s best-selling phone in Q3 2019 will surprise you

Image
Samsung has launched countless smartphones this year, with most of the releases coming as part of the Galaxy A series. And, according to Counterpoint Research , those Galaxy A phones have been among the ten top-selling smartphones of Q3 2019 globally. Surprisingly, it's the Galaxy A10 that was the most popular Android phone with the Galaxy branding, with the device capturing 2.6% market share and earning the second spot in the overall list. The Galaxy A50, which has perhaps received the most positive critical reception among all of Samsung's 2019 A series phones, followed in third place in the list, capturing 1.9% market share. The other Samsung device among the ten top-selling smartphones was the Galaxy A20, which earned seventh place with 1.4% market share. None of Samsung's flagship smartphones made the list, though we're assuming the Note 10/10+ will make an appearance in the sales chart for the fourth quarter of the year. However, we're assuming Samsung

New leak shows size differences between the three Galaxy S11 models

Image
The saga of Galaxy S11 leaks continues, with the latest leak giving us an indication of the size differences between the Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11, and Galaxy S11+. Leakster Ice universe has published a photo that allegedly shows protective films for the three Galaxy S11 models side by side. If these are the real deal, then there's good news for those who had been worried even the smallest of the Galaxy S11 models would be too big. The Galaxy S11e seems to be considerably smaller than the Galaxy S11, though one could also say the latter is a lot bigger than the Galaxy S11e and not the other way around. Indeed, if previous rumors are to be believed, the S11e could have a screen size of at least 6.2 inches , which is a substantial jump over the 5.8 inch display on the Galaxy S10e. The Galaxy S11 and S11+, meanwhile, are expected to have 6.7-inch and 6.9-inch displays respectively. Those are also sizable increases over the Galaxy S10 and S10+, but while there may not be a truly

Samsung Galaxy M31 specs reveal two expected upgrades

Image
Like the Galaxy A series phones Samsung launched this year, devices in the budget Galaxy M lineup will also be getting sequels in the coming year. It was only two weeks ago that we exclusively revealed that Samsung is working on the Galaxy M11 and Galaxy M31 , and the latter has already made its way into the Geekbench benchmark database . It turns out that the Galaxy M31 will bring a couple of expected upgrades over the Galaxy M30. Revealed Galaxy M31 specs don't offer any surprises The first of those is the processor. The Exynos 7904 that powers the M30 is being replaced by an Exynos 9611 on the M31. It's not the most powerful chip, but it's the one Samsung has been using in all of its lower mid-range devices recently, such as the Galaxy M30s and the newly announced Galaxy A51. The benchmarked unit had 6GB of RAM, but there's likely to be a variant with only 4GB of RAM as well. There will be a minimum of 64GB of storage, as we had revealed in our earlier report.

Samsung Galaxy M20 gets another Android 10-based update

Image
In a surprising turn of events, Samsung brought Android 10 to two budget phones , the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30, soon after the Galaxy S10 Android 10 update was released (and a day or so before the stable Android 10 update  started rolling out to the Galaxy Note 10 ). Now, the Galaxy M20 has become the first device in Samsung's expansive smartphone lineup to receive a second software update based on the latest version of Android. The new update for the Galaxy M20 is rolling out in India, accompanied by software version M205FDDU3CSL5. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn't provided a meaningful changelog. In the company's community forums, multiple Galaxy M20 owners have complained about reduced performance on Android 10 , and one can only hope that issue — and any other that might have been introduced with Android 10 — has been resolved in the latest update. Of course, if you own a Galaxy M20 and have been facing problems after updating to Android 10, you can check if they hav

Galaxy Fold 2 display may use ultra-thin glass instead of plastic on top

Image
The display was supposed to be Galaxy Fold's biggest strength, but it turned out to be a major drawback due to numerous durability issues. Even a delayed launch and a minor redesign couldn't solve these problems satisfactorily. Many of the Fold's display issues arise from the use of a plastic layer on top instead of glass like on every other modern smartphone. It appears Samsung may fix some of these display complaints in its next foldable smartphone, the rumored Galaxy Fold 2. According to the well-known Samsung leaker Ice Universe , the Fold 2's display will use an ultra-thin glass cover instead of a plastic layer on top. His claims are in line with an earlier report from ETNews that said Samsung would abandon the transparent polyimide solution used in the Galaxy Fold in favor of a flexible ultra-thin glass (UTG) for its successors. It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world,

Galaxy Note 10+ 5G Android 10 update rolling out now

Image
Samsung is rolling out the stable Android 10 update to the global variant of the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. The Note 10+ 5G received the Android 10 update on Verizon in the US over the weekend, and the unlocked model sold in other markets (model number SM-N976B) is now being updated as well. The rollout has started with Switzerland but should soon expand to other countries where the 5G model is sold, such as Germany and the UK. The Android 10 and One UI 2.0 update for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G in Switzerland comes with software version  N976BXXU1BSLA and includes the December 2019 security patch. You can expect the update to be exactly the same as the one released for the LTE variants worldwide. You can see all the new features that you get with the Android 10 update in the video below and in our One UI 2.0 feature focus series of articles , and you can visit this page to see what improvements One UI 2.0 brings over One UI 1.1/1.5. Samsung confirms Galaxy Tab S6 5G is coming soon

Image
Samsung has quietly confirmed that a 5G variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 is on the way. The company is running a new promotion in its home country wherein it's offering discounts and freebies on purchases of various products, and the Galaxy Tab S6 5G is listed as coming soon in the promotion's landing page on the Samsung Korea website . It was in back in October when it was first discovered that Samsung is working on a 5G variant of its latest flagship tablet. Carrying model number SM-T866N, the tablet then received Bluetooth certification and also gained approval from Korea's National Radio Agency , making it more and more certain that it was on its way to retail shelves. Samsung is using the same renders for both the LTE and 5G variants, so we can assume the specs will remain the same as well. Unfortunately, it's not clear when the Galaxy Tab S6 5G will go official. Since Samsung is now listing it on its official website, the tablet could be showcased at CES 2020

Samsung’s new wireless power bank will support 25W fast charging

Image
Samsung finally introduced faster wired charging speeds to its flagship phones this year, with the Galaxy Note 10+ able to charge at a whopping 45W, and the company is now working on a power bank that supports those faster charging speeds. The FCC has certified a new wireless charging power bank (model number EB-U3300) from Samsung, and its specs confirm that it will be able to charge devices at 25W. The FCC has kindly published a photo of the power bank, which reveals two USB-C ports and a wireless charging pad on top. There is no standard USB-A output port, as 25W and higher charging can only be achieved via USB-C to USB-C cables. The wireless charging speeds are likely to max out at 15W like Samsung's current wireless charging power bank, and the power bank's capacity will also remain unchanged at 10,000 mAh. It's unclear when the new wireless charging power bank will go official, but a launch alongside the Galaxy S11 in February next year is likely. Samsung may e
