Samsung Galaxy Watch review: The smartwatch that tries to do it all

Image
The brand new Samsung Galaxy Watch could be considered the Swiss Army knife of smartwatches. It tries to do a little bit of everything, from sleep tracking, to fitness tracking, to mobile payments, to all the other typical smartwatch functions. It even looks good doing it. But does Samsung nail the execution? Find out in our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Watch. Design Editor's Pick Best smartwatches (July 2018) Smartwatches are still a very new thing to a lot of people, and for good reason. You don't absolutely need one to get through the day, and some of the best smartwatches are much too expensive … Samsung has come a long way with its smartwatch design since the original Galaxy Gear. The Galaxy Watch elegantly disguises itself as a normal watch. It comes in 46mm and 42mm watch face variants. The one I've been testing and using for the past week is the 46mm version in silver, with Bluetooth connectivity. The smaller 42mm vers

Indianapolis Joins AT&T’s Growing 5G Project

Image
AT&T announced that Indianapolis will be the seventh city in the United States that will receive the carrier's mobile 5G service this year. The telecom giant previously stated it plans to deploy mobile 5G infrastructure in twelve cities across the country by the end of the year and had already announced that Charlotte, Raleigh, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Atlanta, and Waco will be part of its 5G project. In preparation for the 5G buildout Indianapolis, AT&T spent $425 million from 2015 to 2017 to improve its wireless and wireline infrastructure in the city and also undertook more than 525 wireless network improvements last year, which included the construction of new cell sites and upgrading existing base stations. Indianapolis is also among the first cities to receive LTE-LAA (Licensed Assisted Access) from AT&T and saw the carrier's  5G Evolution service launched last year as well. The latter offering utilizes technologies that can later be used in the deployment o

Huawei P20 and Mate 10 series shipments surpass 10 million units each

Image
Huawei P20 and P20 Pro Back in June, Huawei revealed that its P20 and P20 Pro flagships had sold 6 million units since their launch back in March. But today, Huawei has confirmed that the lineup has hit yet another major milestone. Taking just five months to do so, the Chinese company confirmed that it has now shipped over 10 million units of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Huawei failed to disclose how the latest numbers compare to sales of last year's P10 line but, following the sales update back in June, the figures were already up 81% ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Huawei Shipped Over 20M Android Flagships Since Late 2017 – IFA 2018

Image
Huawei shipped over 20 million Android flagships since late 2017, the company said during its IFA 2018 conference held earlier today. The Mate 10 lineup introduced last year surpassed ten million shipments, with the more recently launched P20 series hitting the same milestone after only five months, according to Huawei's internal figures. While the company didn't clarify how many of those shipments actually amounted to end-customer sales, its sell-through numbers are believed to be in line with the rest of the industry. Huawei Chief Executive Officer Richard Yu revealed the new milestone shortly after the Chinese technology giant confirmed its next Android flagship will be introduced in mid-October, in addition to unveiling the system-on-chip meant to power it in the form of the Kirin 980 manufactured by its subsidiary HiSilicon. The world's most powerful mobile chip will be fueling the Mate 20 family and is widely expected to debut a number of industry firsts in the ar

RAM, ROM and internal memory: understanding the difference is key

Image
When we talk about smartphones, we often talk about memory: how many GB do you need? Sometimes we refer to RAM, other time to ROM or internal memory. But what is the difference? What is the meaning of these terms in the world of smartphones? I am afraid of losing my data. You too? Jump to: RAM RAM stands for Random Access Memory. RAM is volatile, i.e. it does not store information like a memory card, it is temporary and all information contained within is lost when you turn off the power. The term RAM has become more common in recent years and is used to refer to the physical modules used as primary memory. Normally only temporary information is kept in the RAM that your smartphone needs at a certain time, such as the operating system or open apps (even in the background) that are loaded into your RAM when your start up your device. RAM affects how much multitasking you can do on a device. The more RAM, the more temporary memor

Another phone with camera slider showcased, this time from Lenovo

Image
The list of smartphones with a slide-out camera is getting bigger by the day. It all started with the vivo NEX and Oppo Find X and now we are hearing that the Honor Magic 2 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 are adopting the slide-out mechanism as well. It seems that Lenovo has been bitten by the periscope-like camera bug as well - the company's vice president just shared a video on Weibo showcasing a still unannounced Lenovo smartphone with extremely thin bezels, small chin and pop-up cameras in Find X style. Moreover, the video reveals that the phone will make use of an in-display fingerprint reader, which is something the Find X is currently missing. VIDEO No other information has been disclosed so we will have to wait some more until we see a finished product. Source | Via #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Android 9 Pie will support Qualcomm’s new aptX Adaptive for better Bluetooth audio

Image
As the headphone jack disappears, we're all counting on wireless audio to fill the gap. Today, Qualcomm is announcing its latest way to make Bluetooth audio better, aptX Adaptive. The best gifts for Android users If you've purchased a relatively high-end pair of Bluetooth headphones in the past couple of years, chances are they support Qualcomm's aptX . That technology is designed to improve the connection with lower latency, meaning your video and audio don't get out of sync despite the wireless connection. With aptX Adaptive, Qualcomm is further improving this standard. As Qualcomm explains in a press release , aptX Adaptive can adjust the connection based on surrounding factors, dynamically getting the best audio quality depending on the strength/interference of the RF signal. It can also adjust based on what the user is doing, providing better sync with the phone when playing games or watching versus what it would do while listening to

Sony Xperia XZ3 vs Samsung Galaxy S9+: first look at design, specs and features

Image
Some of you may know that Sony is a bit different from most smartphone manufacturers out there. It's different in that it likes to release a new flagship model every six months! Other companies – they usually do so once a year. And we often tend to say that as phone makers need to update their top products each and every year, it's difficult for them to deliver truly big innovations, and thus, we've gotten used to seeing iterative improvements at best. So where does that leave Sony and its six-month upgrade cycles? Well, we guess it's safe to say that we've been paying less and ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Hands-on: This is the Galaxy J2 Core, Samsung’s Android Go smartphone

Image
Samsung's first step into the Android Go segment comes in the form of the Galaxy J2 Core. We were the first to reveal the phone in live pictures ahead of its official announcement , and other than the absence of an AMOLED display, leaked specs were rather spot on as well . The J2 Core, like other Android Go phones, is designed to offer a light and relatively quick Android experience with basic specs, especially low memory. There's just 1GB of RAM on the Galaxy J2 Core, so it's up to lighter versions of Google's official apps and various memory management tools to ensure the phone runs well despite the low-end specs. Galaxy J2 Core hands-on We were finally able to get our hands on an actual Galaxy J2 Core following its launch in India. We have the phone in blue, and as you can see in the pictures, it looks pretty nice in that color. The J2 Core is priced at ₹6,190, roughly $90, and it's good to see Samsung is offering at least one funky color option. The back pan

Image
Command & Conquer: Rivals is worth checking out if you're a fan of high-paced, RTS gaming. Update Aug. 31, 2018: Command and Conquer: Rivals offers competitive PvP action based on the iconic franchise's RTS formula. Command & Conquer: Rivals The GDI and Brotherhood of NOD are at war once again in Command & Conquer: Rivals, the latest in the iconic real-time strategy franchise that brings the series' futuristic warfare to mobile audiences for the first time. Those of us who played PC games in the 90s surely have fond memories of some of the great Command & Conquer games over the years, but the reaction to Rivals' announcement at E3 was lukewarm at best . For example, the official reveal trailer on Youtube has just 2,000 thumbs and a staggering 58,000 thumbs down. Yikes. The outrage is understandable to a point, as Command & Conquer was a cherished franchise that revolutionized the real-time strategy genre with rich single-player ca

DEAL: Import the Pocophone F1 for only $349

Image
The newly-released Pocophone F1 is one of the most exciting smartphones we've seen in a few years. The device isn't going to be winning any design awards any time soon, but the phone does take the prize for offering the best value in the flagship smartphone segment. The phone's spec sheet matches that of the OnePlus 6, but its $349 price point is 33% cheaper than OnePlus' latest offering. The only downside is that Xiaomi's Pocophone F1 is officially only available in five markets across Asia (India, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong and Indonesia) and two markets in Europe (France and Italy). Fortunately, GearBest has the Pocophone F1 in stock for $349 and is willing to ship the device anywhere in the world. For that price, you'll get the base model of the Pocophone F1 with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. If you need more storage, the 128GB Pocophone F1 will set you back $385 which is still an incredible deal considering that the base model in Europe is g

Independent Strategy Analytics survey shows the Sony Xperia XZ3 has the best display

Image
Sony has once again tapped Strategy Analytics to conduct an independent testing of the Xperia XZ3 screen. That's the new P-OLED screen with 1,440 x 2,880px resolution. For the competition, SA gathered what it considered the leading phones on the market. Here's the roster below. Note that the testing was done between August 21 and 23 so the Galaxy Note9 was not available yet. Sony Xperia XZ3 • Samsung Galaxy S9 • Apple iPhone X Sony Xperia XZ2 • LG V30 • Huawei P20 Here's what the 202 consumers that participated saw. The devices were concealed to eliminate preconceived notions, the brightness was set to maximum (auto brightness off), the image settings were left to default and the test pictures and video was shown simultaneously. The consumers were shown photos and videos and the Venom movie trailer on YouTube (in standard definition for some reason). Then they were asked to rate each screen on Brightness & Clarity, True life colors, Contrast,
