Deal: AKG Y50BT On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones for $49.99 – August 2018

Image
Samsung has the AKG Y50BT on-ear Bluetooth headphones right now for just $49.99. That is a massive discount of $130 from its original price. That makes this a fantastic deal to take advantage of, especially if you are looking for a new pair of wireless headphones that also sound really good. The AKG Y50BT are a pair of Bluetooth headphones from AKG that are really good in the audio quality department. It sports AKG's legendary sound quality, which includes some really crisp mids and highs, as well as some boomy bass here. Though the bass isn't so overpowering that it drowns out the mids and highs which is definitely a good thing here. AKG also put a pretty large capacity battery in the Y50BT, as these are able to last around 20 hours on a single charge. That's something that a lot of headphones are able to accomplish, but they are usually much larger. These are pretty lightweight and can still give you all-day battery life. AKG also includes a port for plugging these i

Huawei Unveils Four New P20 Colors After Sales Milestone – IFA 2018

Image
Huawei on Friday unveiled four new color options for the P20 and P20 Pro, its latest pair of Android flagships unveiled earlier this year to much critical and consumer acclaim. The variants meant to help the mobile series maintain its commercial momentum are Morpho Aurora, Pearl White, Golden Brown Leather, and Elegant Black Leather. The non-leather models are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, September 5, as revealed by Huawei Chief Executive Officer Richard Yu. The official didn't clarify which European and other markets are planned to receive the new P20 variants, with his IFA 2018 presentation only revealing the new P20 models will be priced at €649 ($750), whereas the revised P20 Pro versions will retail at €899 ($1,045). The Elegant Black Leather and Golden Brown Leather finishes will be a P20 Pro exclusive, priced at €999 ($1,160). While their prices are higher compared to the regular models, both variants will also pack 256GB of flash storage and 8GB of RAM, i.e. the

Google pulling Android Messages update is a breach of trust

Image
Google recently pushed an update out that brought its new Material Theme and dark UI to Android Messages . Users were happy to see this new version of the app hit their phones. Unfortunately, the excitement was short lived. Less than 48 hours after the update, Google pulled the new UI back with no explanation via a server-side regression. Downgrading a new version of an app isn't uncommon. Developers find small bugs after the fact all the time and recommend users to revert back to the previous installation. However, these server-side changes by Google feel different. There's a slight hint of betrayal. The way the update is pulled makes a huge difference in how it's viewed by the user. That's because ultimately we, as users, should have full control over individual apps we install. Especially those that are already sitting in our app drawer. Google stripped us of this right when they made changes to Messages without the user's consent. I'm not one to m

PS4 controllers come in a wide variety of colors, and some are frankly much more appealing than others. PlayStation supports a wide variety of accessories, but none are as important as the DualShock 4 controller, which is a necessity if you want to game at all. Since its standard black color is rather boring and people always want options, thankfully there are over a dozen variants to spice up players' collections. Let's be honest, some controllers just look much better than others, while some can be downright ugly. Here are several choices you may be interested in. The best part? Strict Net Neutrality Bill Passes California State Assembly

Image
SB 822, a strict state-level bill meant to reinstate the principles of net neutrality in California, passed the State Assembly on Wednesday with an overwhelming vote in favor of the legislation as 61 lawmakers supported the move and only 18 were against it. The draft is now on its way to the State Senate which already watered down the bill earlier this year, causing significant backlash from the public. The legislation may end up being approved by the other legislative state house and sent to Governor Jerry Brown as early as today. While California may hence start enforcing the principles of the open Internet in the near future, it's still unclear whether the federal government may be able to prevent it from doing so. The controversial net neutrality repeal the Federal Communications Commission made official several months back contains a provision that prevents state-level legislation regulating the matter akin to SB 822 but some advocacy groups previously claimed the clause is

OnePlus will open a store in Paris, France

Image
While it didn't bring any new devices, OnePlus was at IFA, including co-founder Carl Pei. He revealed something potentially even more exciting than a phone – OnePlus will open a brick-and-mortar store in Paris soon. OnePlus has been all about efficiency since its inception, which means focusing on online sales. The OnePlus 6 already has some retail presence in France, due to a partnership with carrier Bouygues (the phone is in around 20 stores now, but will expand to many more). But this will be a true OnePlus store and it will open in time for the next major launch, says Pei, likely referring to the OnePlus 6T. The stores will offer more than just the phones, OnePlus has already branched out into other products. VIDEO They should be similar to the pop-up stores that the company opens temporarily each time there's a new OnePlus phone unveiled. Pei and OnePlus are unfazed by the recent launch of the Pocophone, saying that their biggest enemy is themselves and th

Google One hasn't rolled out to users with promotional Drive storage (and other cases)

Image
When Google announces that a feature is rolling out to everyone, it should probably follow that up with a huge asterisk and footprint to clarify that it doesn't mean everyone, everyone, just most people, minus a few exceptions, and some more exceptions, and even more exceptions. That's the case with Google One, the company's unified cloud storage solution that was said to be available to "everyone in the US" more than two weeks ago . Not so surprisingly, a lot of users haven't received it yet because of multiple reasons, the most important of which is their promotional Drive storage. So to sum it up in concise words, Google One is available to: However, there are many exceptions to this. So far, we know that Google One is currently not available for: Accounts with promotional storage, whether that was received by activating a Chromebook or by completing the Security Checkup on Safer Internet Day. These accounts can't sign up for Google On

Mastercard has secret contract to supply Google with offline transaction records

Image
A previously-unknown Mastercard-Google agreement was just exposed by  Bloomberg. The agreement gives Google a way to connect online advertisements to offline sales in physical stores. Both Google and Mastercard declined to give statements specifically related to this previously-unknown contract. You can rest assured that when Google shows you an ad, it knows if you make an online purchase related to that ad. But what if you physically go to a store and buy a product because of an online advertisement? Well, it turns out that Google knows about at least some of those as well. We know this now because Bloomberg just exposed a secret Mastercard-Google contract which gives the search giant access to the offline transaction records of a portion of Mastercard's two billion customers. While the contract itself isn't that surprising, the fact that both Google and Mastercard kept the agreement a secret from the public is a little concerning. Editor's

Mate 20 launch date revealed: Here’s when we’ll officially see Huawei’s flagship

The Huawei Mate 20 Lite has been announced at IFA 2018, but everyone is waiting for the Mate 20 reveal. Now, the Chinese brand has revealed an October 16 launch date in London for the new phablet. Huawei also said the device will be the first smartphone with its new Kirin 980 chipset. The company's new chipset, announced at IFA too, packs a 7nm manufacturing process. But the Chinese brand has delivered plenty of other upgrades on paper. The Kirin 980 offers a dual NPU for improved AI smarts, as well as a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU. But the company has also upgraded its CPU cores and changed the layout, offering two Cortex-A76 CPU cores at 2.6Ghz, two Cortex-A76 cores at 1.92Ghz, and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8Ghz.
