Tapplock Smart Lock isn’t so smart about security

Image
Home security is getting smarter, or at least that's what the fast growing smart home market is trying to say. Pundits, however, warn of how the IoT rush could cause lapses in security, which has been proven time and again. Nowhere is that more troubling than when smart locks themselves are involved. One newcomer to that market is Tapplock, and … Continue reading

Oppo Find X review: finding space

Image
When we've talked about full-screen phones in 2018, that's meant around an 80 percent screen-to-body ratio with a small bottom bezel and a notch housing the front camera. The front-facing camera is an integral part of the phone so this design was necessary — until now. With the Oppo Find X, the Chinese company follows in the footsteps of fellow BBK-owned phone company Vivo, hiding the camera in the top of the phone. However, Oppo's approach is a little different the Vivo's NEX, and feels pretty unique. DesignThe Oppo Find X is a stunning phone. With beveled edges, a beautiful gradient back design and probably the highest screen-to-body ratio available, this thing is quite the looker. The body feels quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy S9 with its curved sides — even the top and bottom contour inwards to create a nearly uniform design. The most obvious design component here is the omission of the rear and front-facing cameras. While Vivo's NEX showcased the dual rear ca…

Arriving as version OPW28.2 for both models, it's a major update that bumps the Android OS version to 8.1 Oreo.Aside from what the 8.1 update brings (like Pixel 2 launcher look as well as dark and light themes), the update also includes Android security fixes for the month of May. Galaxy Note 9 screen panel leak: still notchless

Image
Anyone and everyone have a notch these days that it's easier to actually count who doesn't. There's Oppo with its new Find X "slider", Vivo with its elevating Nex, Sony, HTC, and, of course, Samsung. Despite being called out time and again for being an Apple copycat, it seems that this is one area where Samsung is stubbornly refusing to … Continue reading

OPPO Find X: Taking smartphone technology right to the edge

Image
OPPO has just launched their most premium and innovative phone to date – this is the OPPO Find X. The Chinese manufacturer may not be as big in the US as the other popular brands, but OPPO is the same company that owns OnePlus, so that might be a point of reference. OPPO has made a statement with the Find X – they agree that big screens don't need a notch, and we're so happy about that. But there is a lot more to the Find X than meets the eye.The OPPO Find X is gorgeous to look at, and you can ascribe that to the large 6.42-inch AMOLED panel up front. The display runs at 2340×1080 resolution and has virtually no side bezels and "chin", and no notch. All you get is glorious display from top to bottom. Now, as to how they dealt with the notch, that is truly something special. See the video below from The Verge to understand where they put the cameras and sensors.VIDEOAs you saw from the video, the cameras are hidden in an innovative slide-up mechanism, a little bit qui…

Google Play security will extend to apps shared offline

Image
Issues of control aside, there are technical and practical benefits to getting your Android apps from Google Play Store instead of third-party repositories or, worse, free-floating APKs. The biggest problem with that, however, is that installing apps, or even just browsing, requires an Internet connection, which might not be available at all times in all markets. Deal: Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus For $739 – June 2018

Image
Amazon is currently selling the Galaxy S9 Plus for just $739. That is good for $100 off of the regular price here, which does bring it down to its all-time lowest price. And it also marks the first time that it has dropped below $750. The Galaxy S9 Plus actually sports 6GB of RAM here along with 64GB of storage and even has a dual-camera setup around the back. Which makes this a great smartphone to pick up. As it is going to be future-proof with slightly more RAM and also has a great camera thanks to the secondary camera there. The Galaxy S9 Plus is a great smartphone to pick up, especially since it is already running on Androi…
