Not pricey yet elegant: Samsung Galaxy A30 is now (unofficially) sold in the US, 30-day warranty included

Image
Samsung Galaxy A30 (left) and A50 (right) Back in February, mere days after unveiling the high-end Galaxy S10 series, Samsung also announced a couple of new mid-range Android smartphones: Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50. While Samsung does not plan to release these two A-series handsets in the US, one of them can now be ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Is your Android or iOS phone on Google's ARCore supported devices list?

Image
ARCore is Google's Augmented Reality (AR) platform. Not every Android phone has what it takes to be included among the devices supported by ARCore. To be on that list, Google checks a phone's camera image and motion sensor to see how well the device "moves through the real world." Google also makes sure that the handset is equipped with a CPU that is powerful enough to make the necessary calculations in real-time to make AR work smoothly. Recently, Google has added a number of new phones to its ARCore supported devices list (via XDA). These models include the recently ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Nokia 9 PureView in for review

Image
Ever since the return of Nokia under HMD Global ownership in the beginning of 2017, everyone's been asking where the proper flagship is. The Nokia 8 was sort of that, but it failed to impress, and then the Nokia 8 Sirocco missed the mark too, if it was even going for it at all. In comes the Nokia 9 PureView . PureView is more than a brand – the moniker holds an iconic status among Nokia loyalists thanks to phones like the Nokia 808 and the Lumia 1020 that were unmatched in their camera prowess back in their days. The Nokia 9 PureView has big shoes to fill then, and it certainly packs a ton of hardware to try and do just that. As soon as we took the Nokia 9 out of its box, it's the cameras that we stared for a good while. We wondered just how tough a decision it must have been to fit 5 modules with the same focal length when all the competitors are doing ultra wides and telephotos. Ah, but dynamic range must be awesome on the PureView and imagine how detailed

Huawei says it "can make the chin shorter" on its smartphones, but has chosen not to

Image
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro's chin Nowadays, almost every smartphone manufacturer out there claims to have produced a bezel-less device despite the presence of a thicker chin. Two prime examples of this are the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. But in a recent interview, Huawei explained why it hasn't yet removed the chin from its smartphones. Speaking to GSMArena recently, Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, revealed that the decision to maintain the chin on its most recent flagship devices is down to "accidental touches." According ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Amazon's World Backup Day sale includes Samsung 256GB A2 microSD card for $53, Kingston 128GB microSD for $15, and more

Image
Today is apparently World Backup Day, which means there are sales on hard drives, NAS units, microSD cards, and other mediums of storage — sadly, I haven't seen any discounts on Zip Disks. If you happen to have a phone with a microSD card slot, today is a good opportunity to get extra storage. For smartphones and tablets, SanDisk's 256GB U3 A2 microSD card is just $52.99 for today , a $16 drop from the usual price. The 'A2' label means it will work with Android's adoptable storage feature, though it won't match the speeds of your phone's internal storage . If you're not planning on installing applications or games to a microSD card, and you just need more room for photos or videos, SanDisk's slower 256GB A1 microSD is $38 right now . It normally goes for around $45. Samsung also has a 128GB U1 card for $30 , and if speeds aren't a concern at all, Kingston's Class 10 128GB card is just $16 . Beyond microSD cards, Amazon has vario

It also helps if you like to load your phone up with apps, music and movies. These are the best microSD cards you can buy for your Android phone. All-around winner Samsung EVO Select Staff Pick Samsung's high-performance EVO Select is the perfect blend of fast read and write speeds (100MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively) and affordability. This card comes with a full-size SD adapter, and its high class means it can handle all types of media, including 4K video. $40 at Amazon Speed demon Lexar Professional 1000x If speed is of utmost importance to you because you're constantly shooting high-def video or whatever, then this is the card you want. It has transfer speeds of up to 150MB/s, meaning it can hand 4K and even 3D video, as well as all the high-res images and music you can throw at it. It's pricey for a 64

Daniel Bader, Andrew Martonik, and Alex Dobie begin the episode by looking at credit cards and gaming subscriptions through the lens of Apple Card and Apple Arcade. They also look at instances where phone makers are 'mistakenly' sending user data to servers in China, and a recent report that cites significant security flaws in Huawei devices. With Huawei remaining in the spotlight, the main event this week is discussion of the new P30 and P30 Pro. They offer unique camera experiences and tremendous overall value. Oppo patents new slider design that allows for a high screen-to-body-ratio

Image
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has published (via GSM Arena) a patent awarded to Chinese phone manufacturer Oppo. The company's Oppo Find X was the first smartphone to feature a slider design; the slider hides the front-facing camera and dual rear cameras until needed. Now, Oppo's new slider design includes dual cameras that are mounted on the back of the phone, never hidden from view. Meanwhile, the slider holds a pair of front-facing selfie cameras. Just the other day, we showed you a case render for a phone called the Oppo Reno, which will ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Huawei Reaches Unprecedented Riches, Even More Unprecedented Problems

Image
Shenzen-based electronics maker  Huawei has been in the figurative crosshairs of the United States government for more years than most remember, with Washington always being suspicious of anyone merely associated with it. That didn't stop it from doing amazingly well in other parts of the world, especially Europe over the last several years, much to the annoyance of the U.S.whose officials still have their hands full with Huawei, whether in terms of handling criminal investigations or lobbying against the Chinese conglomerate and its equipment abroad as part of a strategy Huawei representatives repeatedly described as scandalously discriminatory. That isn't to say Huawei is strapped for cash and is barely making ends meet. The tech juggernaut's latest financial report published today may be unsurprisingly vague on the finer details of its operations but it's perfectly clear when it comes to communicating how successful has the company been at rivaling pretty much ev
