Samsung Galaxy C7 (2017) receives Bluetooth certification

Image
Samsung had announced the Galaxy C7 in June last year. Going by the company’s yearly cycle for releasing new smartphones, it’s almost time for it to unveil the successor to the Galaxy C7. We’ve now spotted Bluetooth certification documents of a new Samsung smartphone that could be launched as the Galaxy C7 (2017) . The SM-C7100 , which appears to be the successor to the Galaxy C7 ( SM-C7000 ), was recently certified by the Bluetooth SIG. Two other variants of the smartphone –  SM-C7108 and SM-C710F – have received Bluetooth certification as well. All these variants received certifications earlier today. So, it appears that the company is close to the official announcement of the smartphone. Going by the model numbers of the Galaxy C7 (2017), the phone could be launched in China and other markets around the world. The original Galaxy C7 features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage, microSD card slot, 16-megapixel primary ca

Galaxy S8 with dual cameras pictured yet again

Image
There were a lot of rumors in the days leading up to the Galaxy S8′s launch about the new flagship featuring a dual camera system at the back. It was predicted to be the first smartphone from Samsung to feature dual cameras. Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S8 on March 29 and subsequently proved the rumors wrong. However, it’s no secret that Samsung tested prototypes of the Galaxy S8 with a dual camera system. We’ve seen images of the prototype in the past as well. Earlier today, a couple of images were leaked online from China via Weibo showing us another unit that features a dual camera. It doesn’t feature a fingerprint sensor at the back like the Galaxy S8 actually does. This goes to show that those rumors were not without merit. We did report earlier this year that Samsung was testing multiple prototypes of the Galaxy S8 and all of the rumors were based on them. Thus it was difficult to be sure about anything. For the longest time, the rumor mill was convinced that the

Samsung and Sprint test LTE-boosting technology in South Korea

Image
Sprint and Samsung recently tested the Massive MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) technology on the 2.5GHz spectrum in South Korea. This was a real-world application of a technology that will enable Sprint to “dramatically boost” LTE Plus wireless capacity and cover. The technology will also enable Sprint to offer Gigabit LTE to its customers in the United States. The field testing in Suwon, South Korea involved Massive MIMO Samsung radios that were equipped with vertical and horizontal bean-forming technology. Sprint was able to reach peak speeds of 330 Mbps per channel using a 20MHz channel of 2.5GHz spectrum. The setup increased capacity per channel by four times while increasing cell edge performance three times. The overall coverage area also improved compared to existing radios. Sprint has already deployed 8T8R (8 transmit, 8 receive) radios across its network in the United States. It conducted this test with Samsung to compare the performance of Massive MIMO radios with

Samsung Q2 2017 operating profit may beat every other company on the planet

There have already been many predictions from market analysts that the second quarter of this year is going to be a good one for Samsung . The company is expected to break its previous record of the highest operating profit ever in a single quarter. The latest predictions go so far as to suggest that Samsung’s Q2 2017 operating profit will beat every other company on the planet in this particular period of time. Market analysts predict that Samsung’s Q2 2017 operating profit will be more than Apple’s. They are also predicting that the company will rake in more profit in this quarter than the likes of Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google. Stock firms in South Korea are estimating Samsung’s operating profit for Q2 2017 to be around 13.1187 trillion won or $11.6 billion. There are not discounting the possibility of the final figure being even higher than this as the estimation of Samsung’s performance in this quarter continues to rise. Some firms predict that the final number could be

You can get Android Pay on Samsung Galaxy smartphones but you can’t get Samsung Pay on non-Samsung Android smartphones. Google’s mobile payments service isn’t exclusive to any particular manufacturer while Samsung has predictably limited Samsung Pay to its Galaxy smartphones. Many of you might live in a market where both services are live. That begs the question, which payments service do you use most frequently? They both have their pros and cons so we would like it if you can tell us which is your preferred service and what are your reasons for using it frequently by leaving a comment down below. Samsung Pay gets support for HSBC and M&S Bank cards in the United Kingdom

Samsung took its sweet time in bringing Samsung Pay to the United Kingdom. The company has expanded its mobile payments service to a handful of new markets across the globe over the past week. Not too long ago, it finally flipped the switch on Samsung Pay for customers in the United Kingdom as well. The company may have already conceded a lot of ground to rival payment services like Android Pay and Apple Pay. Both services have long been available in the United Kingdom. Samsung Pay itself was launched over two years ago in South Korea so its UK launch was long overdue. Samsung Pay still doesn’t support some of the top financial institutions in the country, including Barclays and Llyods Bank. However, it’s expanding its reach to more potential customers by adding support for bank cards issued by HSBC, M&S Bank, and First Direct. Users who have a card from the issues mentioned above can now use Samsung Pay to make payments on the go. Samsung Pay is currently supported on the Gala

Samsung explains how it had to ‘humanize’ the brand after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco

It’s never an ideal scenario when a high-end product that you’ve just released runs into problems and before you know it, there’s a negative connotation attached to the product that was supposed to earn you billions of dollars. That’s precisely what happened with Samsung last year when a battery fault caused many Galaxy Note 7 handsets to spontaneously catch fire. Samsung discontinued the flagship device but it had to sustain significant damage to its brand reputation as well. Samsung’s chief marketing officer in the United States Marc Mathieu explained that the company was then forced to change its marketing strategy to focus on trust and rebuilding its relationship with consumers. Speaking at a session at the Cannes Lions Festival, Mathieu said that the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco was a disaster that he “wouldn’t wish it on any marketer.” “We were getting free [negative] advertising anytime people would board a plane – we didn’t need that,” he added, referring to a blanket ban placed

Despite smaller battery, refurbished Galaxy Note 7 may not have a downclocked processor

Image
Samsung is expected to officially launch the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 on July 7 . Rumor has it that the device may be called the Galaxy Note FE or “Fan Edition.” Samsung is reportedly going to release this device in only a handful of markets, starting with its home country of South Korea. The company hasn’t set up a new production line for the Galaxy Note FE. They are going to be refurbished units of the Galaxy Note 7 that just have a smaller battery. Everything else remains the same. It’s going to have the specs of the ill-fated flagship. The Galaxy Note FE is going to have the same 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, Samsung Exynos 8890 processor with 4GB RAM, 12-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera as the original Galaxy Note 7. Samsung’s Exynos 8890 processor has a cluster of four custom and four ARM Cortex A53 cores to provide a mix of high performance and power efficiency. The Galaxy Note FE has been spotted on Geekbench today, the benchmark listing has detected

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 BOGO offer for T-Mobile available again

Image
Samsung’s buy-one-get-one-free offer for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on T-Mobile expired not too long ago and the company has decided to bring it back again. Customers can purchase either handset from T-Mobile right now and the company is going to refund them the cost of the second handset so it will essentially be free. The way this offer works is that customers first purchase two new Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ phones by paying full price for them upfront. They also have to pay all applicable taxes. They then have to activate one of their new devices on Samsung.com within 14 days of purchase. Once that’s done, Samsung is going to provide them a rebate for the less expensive of the two handsets minus taxes and fees on their original payment method. The rebate will arrive in up to 8 weeks after activation. Since the rebate is being provided by Samsung and not T-Mobile, it’s only going to be refunded to the original payment method. Customers can not combine this deal with any other o

Galaxy S8 Active referenced on Samsung’s website

Image
The upcoming Galaxy S8 Active (SM-G892A) has been referenced in a document, which outlines all of the applications it will ship with, on Samsung’s website, leading us to believe that the handset’s launch is right around the corner. Judging by recent leaks , the Galaxy S8 Active is simply a flat version of the Galaxy S8, equipped with a slightly thicker body that’s more resistant to knocks and bumps, and presumably compliant with the MIL-STD-810G standard of durability. Not much is known about the handset’s internals, but we’re guessing they’re identical to the regular Galaxy S8 , so it should come with a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, an Exynos 88955 processor and 4GB of RAM. That said, we aren’t ruling out the possibility of the Galaxy S8 Active  having a slightly larger 3,500mAh battery as Samsung has installed beefier cells in its Active-branded smartphones in the past. With regards to availability, the Galaxy S8 Active is expected to launch exclusively through AT&T in the US, an

Daily Deal: Take 30% off a SmartThings Hub

For a limited time only, you can pick up a second-generation SmartThings Hub from Amazon for $69.99 (30% off).  For those unfamiliar, the Hub is the centerpiece of the IoT household, connecting  a host of different appliances – kettles, speakers, locks and thermostats — to the internet, letting you automate how they work. If you like the sound of this promotion and want to take advantage of it, hit the Buy Now button below. Unfortunately, Amazon only has a limited amount of inventory available for this specific deal, and once it’s gone, it’s gone — so it would probably be better to act sooner rather than later.

Download and watch these brilliant HDR videos on your Galaxy S8, S8+, and Tab S3

Samsung’s new mobile devices – Galaxy S8 , Galaxy S8+ , Galaxy Tab S3 , and Galaxy Book – feature high-resolution screens that are capable of displaying HDR (High Dynamic Range) content.  However, there’s finding HDR content is a task, and you won’t find it easily. Netflix still hasn’t started supporting these Samsung devices for HDR video streaming. A Redditor has compiled a collection of thirteen HDR videos that work with the Galaxy S8 and S8+, and you can download them. All these are 10-bit 4K HDR ( HDR10 ) videos from BBC Planet Earth, LG, Samsung, and Sony, and they’re HDR10 standard compatible, so they’ll work find on the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Tab S3, and the Galaxy Book. Make sure that you increase the brightness to 100% and change the display mode to AMOLED Cinema from the Settings menu. It will work with Samsung’s stock video player. You can download these videos from the source or via links below. Note: If some of the file names of these videos are not ending with

Galaxy J3 (2016) gets May 2017 Android security patch

Image
Although Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy J3 (2017) along with some other Galaxy J (2017) series smartphones, the company hasn’t forgotten its older devices. The Galaxy J3 (2016) , an entry-level smartphone that was launched in March last year , has received May 2017 Android security patch with the latest software update. The Galaxy J3 (2016) has started receiving a 143.13MB update to firmware version J320FNXXU0AQE1, bringing bug fixes, performance improvements, and May 2017 security patch to the device. However, the phone still remains at Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and the company hasn’t updated it to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) even now, let along Android 7.0 (Nougat). The update is currently being rolled out to unlocked variants of the Galaxy J3 (2016) in European markets and India , and it could soon be rolled out to other countries soon. The device previously received March security patch in Europe . If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it manually by headin

Google has launched an exclusive Play Music feature for the Galaxy S8

Image
If you cast your mind back to April, you may recall that Google announced it had teamed up with Samsung to give Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ customers who use Play Music, which is the default audio player on the handsets, a couple of extra perks to enhance their music-listening experience. Despite being relatively minor, the perks were actually pretty useful: users could upload 100,000 songs to their virtual locker instead of the usual 50,000, and were eligible for a free three-month trial of Play Music All Access. Now, however, the firm has released an exclusive feature for the devices. It’s called New Release Radio and — you guessed it — is a personalized mix of the freshest songs — but it’s not really the groundbreaking ‘feature’ we were hoping for. After all, it’s just a radio station that Google could quite easily deliver to every user, and probably will in the future.

Samsung SDI encourages engineers to become ‘technology meisters’

Samsung SDI , Samsung’s battery manufacturing arm, faced a lot of difficulties after it came under fire for supplying faulty Galaxy Note 7 batteries to Samsung Electronics last year. The company got itself a new leader  after it  suffered fire at its China factory . Samsung SDI has also planned to invest $128 million this year to improve battery safety. Now, the company is encouraging its engineers to become ‘technology meisters’. According to a new report from The Korea Herald , Samsung SDI is offering its engineers financial incentives to improve their professional skills. The company said last week that it has added seventeen additional members to its existing group of 36 technology meisters (engineers who hold at least three master certificates), taking the total number to 53. The company had started the Technology Meister program in 2013 at its Gumi plant in North Gyeongsang Province and expanded it to its plants in Ulsan, Cheongju and Cheonan. It usually takes one year for engi

Samsung patents a case that’ll let you charge your Gear S3 using your smartphone

Image
According to Patently Mobile, Samsung’s filed a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a wireless charging case that uses Millimeter Wave Technology. But what does that mean? Well, according to the diagram included in the listing, you’ll be able to use the case to wirelessly charge a Gear smartwatch, and presumably a number of other devices, while on the move. Unlike most patent filings, this one is actually pretty specific, detailing exactly how the case will be configured. Tucked away in the back cover, you’ll find a transmission coil and a USB Type-C connector to attach the case to the smartphone. The front cover, on the other hand, will house a wireless power control processor and a direct current-alternating power converter. Don’t get too excited, though. This is only a patent filing and there’s a good chance the product will never see the light of day. As we’ve said in the past, Samsung reserves the rights to a lot of designs and names on a monthly basis,

Samsung’s in-screen fingerprint reader said to cause uneven display brightness

Image
It was already being reported that Samsung won’t be able to perfect the in-screen fingerprint reader for the Galaxy Note 8 , so the upcoming phablet won’t feature it. Now, a new claim from an industry insider points to a specific reason why the South Korean smartphone giant’s plan of a fingerprint reader integrated into the Galaxy Note 8, which is to be unveiled in August , didn’t come to fruition. It is bring reported that the implementation of optical fingerprint reader that was tested on the Galaxy Note 8′s display was imperfect due to uneven screen brightness; the area containing the fingerprint reader appeared brighter than the rest of the screen. This could be one of the main reasons why the upcoming flagship smartphone could miss out on an in-screen fingerprint reader. Apple and Samsung were expected to bring the first smartphones with in-screen fingerprint readers to offer consumers a device with a bezel-less display and all the advantages of a front-facing fingerprint re

Samsung’s artistic Frame TV released in South Korea

Image
After releasing its artistic Frame TV in Norway and Switzerland, Samsung has released it today in South Korea and the US . ‘The Frame’, a TV that won an innovation award at CES 2017 in Las Vegas earlier this year, will be available in South Korea for KRW 3,400,000 (approx. $3,033) for the 55-inch variant and KRW 5,150,000 (approx. $4,594) for the 65-inch variant. The company had announced the TV’s global launch two weeks ago . Apart from 4K and HDR technologies, The Frame  is known for its artistic design. It looks like an art piece that’s hung on the wall or set up on a painting stand. Its bezel and frame can be interchanged to match the styling of a room. Customers also get access to over 100 paintings from 37 world-renowned artists. Users can purchase additional artwork through the company’s Art Store. Galaxy Note 4 June security patch released in Europe
