The Justice Department could deliver a fatal blow to Huawei

Image
Huawei is under investigation by the Justice Department for possibly violating export sanctions to Iran. With the Chinese company being faced with a criminal investigation in the US, it could mean a fatal blow is coming for the world's largest telecom company . And if the US bans Huawei, there would be negative consequences for everyone. Everyone should protect themselves from ransomware. Do you agree? Just last week, the US banned ZTE , China's second biggest telecom company, from buying parts from US companies for 7 years due to export violations concerning Iran. Because of that move, ZTE has said that its survival and development are under threat and that the company's partners will also be negatively affected, including a large number of US firms. The government has now set its sights on Huawei for the same reason. If Huawei gets the same treatment, it could result in the company being banned from purchasing any

Motorola Pronto Suite To Be Used By States Of Jersey Police

Image
Motorola 's Pronto Suite of applications is going to be used by the States of Jersey Police, proposed as a forward-moving effort to transition from using methods for simpler tasks that could be completed more efficiently in the field by using digital resources instead of using paper. Examples of tasks that could be completed with some of the apps in the Pronto Suite are things like taking down statements or handing out penalty notices. The idea behind getting on board with the Pronto Suite is to save time for officers in the field and help streamline things. The suite will include things like the Pronto OTA server for storage management, the Pronto Hub Server, and the Pronto Web Manager to view captured data. Essentially Pronto is a hosting service that opens up the access to the varied set of tools for officers in the field. The States of Jersey Police force has reportedly signed a three-year contract with Motorola for use of the suite, but its said that Pronto is to make up th

Amazon Prime Price Increase to $119/Year Takes Effect on May 11

Image
Those who sign up for a new Amazon Prime account starting on May 11 will see a new higher price for an annual membership, with Amazon announcing plans to raise the price to $119 up from $99/year during its Q1 earnings call this week. For those already subscribed to Amazon Prime, they too will see the same price increase, but Amazon states it will go into effect for them on June 16. This is the first change to the annual Prime price since 2014 when it was raised to $99/year from $79/year. While those with Prime enjoy free 2-day shipping on select items, access to Prime Video, as well as plenty of other perks (like Whole Foods discounts), Amazon states the price to run the service continues to climb. It seems that a price increase is the best way to counteract that, and honestly, who isn't going to renew their Prime account because of a little price bump? It's still completely worth it, at least in my opinion. Thoughts? // Engadget Amazon Prime Price Increase t

T-Mobile Says That 5G Won’t be Much Faster Than 4G…at First

Image
With all of the hype surrounding 5G , you wouldn't be out of line to expect a dramatically different experience from your current 4G LTE connection when those first 5G networks go live over the next couple of years. Unless you are talking to T-Mobile, who said yesterday that you might want to cool expectations, at least at first. Speaking with PCMag , Karri Kuoppamaki, T-Mobile's VP of radio network technology development and strategy, said that you should really expect a 25-50% increase in speeds from their network out of the gate, rather than the wild Gigabit+ speeds that others like to show off in demos and speak of in theoretical terms. While it's realistic to think that we will get to multi-Gigabit speeds, it may take some time or depend on the carrier you are attached to. Verizon and AT&T will use millimeter wave (mmW) technology to build out a 5G network, and mmW should increase speeds. The problem there is that mmW cell sites don't cover big areas an

Samsung posts Q1 2018 financial results, tops expectations with record profits

Image
It's that time of the... quarter. 2018 Q1 financial reports are being published by most of the big tech names, and Samsung is likely pretty pleased with its performance so far this year. It isn't quite as high as the impressive 2017 Q4 results it previously posted, but it's sitting pretty with a total of KRW 60.56 trillion ($56 billion) in revenue, with KRW 15.64 trillion ($14.51 billion) in operating profit. That's a revenue increase of 20% and an operating profit increase of over 50% compared to Q1 2017, beating expectations.  A glut of Samsung's earnings came from continued demand in memory as well as its overall semiconductor foundry efforts. A recent drop in flexible OLED demand, combined with "competitors' increased production capacity" (i.e., LG), made a bit of a ding in the company's Display segment. That was tempered, though, by the continued sales of Galaxy S8 devices, as well as the launch of the Galaxy S9 . In the coming

The Android Developers website is no longer stuck in the past

Image
Google refreshed its Android Developers website to bring it in line with other recent refreshes. Some individual pages were removed, while others were moved or completely changed. Google said the refresh allows for additional improvements in the near future. Apparently not satisfied with giving Gmail a much-needed visual refresh , Google finally gave its Android Developers website the fresh coat of paint it needed. That is not to say the Android Developers website appeared ugly. However, the white background, updated iconography, and organization of the refresh subjectively make things more pleasing to the eyes. Folks might argue that the refresh makes getting to certain places a bit annoying. Whereas the Android Developers website previously kept its different sections on the side, the refresh moves those sections further down. That is somewhat offset by the gigantic search bar that now greets you when you visit Android Developers. Also, certain pages wil

Possible Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 may come with Snapdragon 660

Image
Xiaomi recently launched the Mi 6X in China, but it might not be done with its new devices this quarter. The Mi Pad 3 is about ripe for an upgrade, and the people over at XDA think they might have the goods on the initial specs of what could be the Mi Pad 4 . It feels like no one is excited about tablets these days, but the Mi Pad line is indeed one of the better Android tablets out there that you can get. The folks over at XDA have obtained firmware files from a possible Xiaomi tablet, and they think it might be the Mi Pad 4 . They outlined their reasons for why it might be the Mi Pad 4, and we're inclined to believe them. The short version is that there is a lot of evidence in the code that the firmware comes from a Xiaomi tablet device, and the battery spec is 6,000mAh, which is only logical for a tablet device. Possible specs of this device were gleaned from the firmware, and it starts with a Snapdragon 660 chipset. That bodes well for the performance of this d

[Deal Alert] Get $50 off an Amazon Fire HD 10

Image
Looking to pick up a cheap tablet? Amazon has you covered. Right now, you can get $50 off all variants of the Fire HD 10, meaning that you can pay as little as $100 for a 10" FHD tablet (32GB with ads). That's pretty great. Whether you opt for ads or not, you're getting a 10.1" 1080p IPS LCD, an unnamed quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of storage, Alexa, and dual-band AC Wi-Fi. Amazon claims that you can expect up to ten hours of battery life. While it doesn't come with the Play Store out of the box, there are guides out there to help you get going. Once you've got that up and running, you can even add a tablet as an authorized device with Google's new GApps policy . If you want the full 64GB without ads, you'll need to fork over $154.99, or $114.99 for the 32GB. With special offers, the 32GB is going for $99.99 and the 64GB for $139.99. Amazon Prime yearly subscription increasing to $119 starting in May

Image
Renewals after June 16 will jump to new price. Amazon's Q1 2018 earnings were just released , and the company once again beat estimates. But during the analyst call, it wasn't all good news — at least for customers. Amazon says that it will be increasing the yearly subscription price of Amazon Prime to $119 from the current $99. This new price will go into effect for new Prime sign-ups starting on May 11 , just a couple weeks away, while those of us who already have Prime won't be hit by the price increase unless our renewals come due after June 16 . The Galaxy J2 Core could be Samsung's first Android Go smartphone

Image
It looks like Samsung is the next smartphone company to jump on the Android Go bandwagon. The version of Android that's been specifically designed to work on entry-level phones with 1GB RAM or less has been supported by many handset manufacturers lately. An unannounced Samsung smartphone has been recently spotted at Geekbench and judging by its specs, this could be the South Korean company's first Android Go handset. The device goes by model number SM-J260G and packs just 1GB RAM and a quad-core Exynos 7570 processor. Another piece of information that suggests ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Red Alert Online revives the franchise on mobile devices in China

Image
Mobile gaming giant Tencent has just announced a deal with Electronic Arts and Aiyou Interactive Entertainment to release Red Alert Online, a new game from the classic Command & Conquer series. It will be the first new game in the franchise in nearly six years. There are copycat titles available, but Red Alert Online will be the first officially licensed Command & Conquer game on Android. A previous Red Alert title was made back in 2009 for iOS, but it never made its way into the Android ecosystem. The trailer doesn't give many details as to what the game will be like, but there is some cause for concern. A Red Alert Online gameplay video  (which for some reason is in vertical format) has revealed that the game is more in line with other mobile games like Clash of Clans, where players have a static base and send troops out on missions. It also appears to feature the usual trappings of free-to-play mobile titles, which will likely come as a disappointment to fa

Crostini Seemingly Gaining Direct File Access In Chrome OS

Image
Google Chromebook owners who frequently have to work with Linux applications can attest that one of the biggest limitations of the Crostini Linux container is that it does not have direct access to the device's file system, but it seems that this may be changing soon. The way things work now forces files generated in the Crostini container to stay there, and keeps users from using local files inside the container's application. A workaround is available via SSH, but it can be cumbersome. A recent code commit in the Chromium repository points to Google using Crostini's built-in SSH and a pre-built action library to create an easier solution, essentially giving Crostini file access privileges to and from the Chromebook. Having a look at the code commit itself, it seems that each container instance in Crostini will receive its own private key, which will be called when trying to access the Chrome OS file system. The Crostini container will also be added to a list of "

Find a new Android exploit? Sell it to a secretive company for $3 million

Image
A company based in the United Arab Emirates called Crowdfense is offering millions of dollars for zero-day Android exploits. While a bounty for exploits is not a new concept, this Crowdfense bounty is mysterious, as the company won't specifically say where the exploit goes from there. A zero-day Android exploit is pretty serious business, and this company's intentions are unclear. If you stumble across a zero-day Android exploit (that is, a bug or vulnerability that is unknown to Google ), a company called Crowdfense will pay you up to $3 million for that information. Sounds amazing, right? The only issue is that it is not clear what Crowdfense would then do with the exploit. The company admits that it would sell the exploit to other organizations, but which ones and for what purpose is unknown. Traditional Hangouts video calls for G Suite customers will soon be no more

Image
Starting in May, meetings created in Google Calendar for G Suite will default to Hangouts Meet instead of traditional Hangouts video calls. G Suite administrators can delay the eventual move by at least four weeks. Internet Explorer and Safari users are out of luck in regards to Meet support. Up until now, video conferencing app Hangouts Meet and traditional Hangouts video calls peacefully co-existed alongside each other. That will change soon, as Google announced that Meet will be the go-to app when you schedule a meeting in Google Calendar. In an email to G Suite administrators, Google attributed the decision to Meet's relatively better performance, "positive customer feedback," and "cleaner, more focused user experience." It also helps that Meet continually received updates since its launch in March 2017. Over time, Meet was updated to include features like being able to call out to U.S. and Canadian phone numbers, custom hardware

Meizu M6 Note review: Good, but nothing special

Image
The Meizu M6 Note may not be the most exciting smartphone, but it's not bad. I've had it for the past week, giving me plenty of time to put it through it's paces. The M6 Note is a mid-range smartphone (at best). It's affordable, has some very appealing features, and is made by one of the most popular and reputable Chinese OEMs . With dual cameras, a large battery, a metal design, and Meizu's signature FlymeOS, is the M6 Note a budget phone worth buying? That's what we aim to find out in this Meizu M6 Note review. Design The M6 Note feels like a high-quality smartphone. Many aspects of the Meizu M6 Note are pretty run of the mill. It get's the job done. The M6 Note doesn't do much wrong, nor does it do a whole lot to stand out from the crowd either. The phone is well designed but it's nothing we haven't seen from other manufacturers before. The M6 Note is solidly constructed, with an all-metal body that gives it a very high quality
