With Trump undermining their efforts, Senators drop bid to reimpose sanctions on ZTE

Image
Wikimedia Commons The group of senators who introduced a bill to reimpose sanctions on ZTE have withdrawn the bid. After Trump effectively saved ZTE from going out of business, the senators are out of options. Although this is a win for Trump, it's marred by the fact that he is simultaneously working to push a trade war with China. Back in June, we told you about a group of senators – both Republican and Democrat – who wanted to put language into an annual defense bill that would reimpose sanctions placed on ZTE by the U.S. Commerce Department. But since President Donald Trump effectively thwarted that plan by lifting the sanctions on the Chinese smartphone company , the rogue senators have thrown in the towel and removed the language from the defense bill, per  The Washington Post . This represents a clear win for President Trump, albeit a confusing one. It's hard to congratulate him on effectively saving a Chinese company from bankruptcy while he

Galaxy J3 (2017) gets Wi-Fi certification with Android 8.0 Oreo

Image
The Galaxy J3 (2017) has been certified running Android 8.0 Oreo by the Wi-Fi Alliance, bringing the update a step closer to the smallest of Samsung's J series trio from last year. Now that Samsung has kicked off the rollout of the Oreo update for its mainstream flagships and mid-range devices, it's only natural for the company to turn attention to Oreo for its budget phones. The Galaxy J3 (2017), however, might not get Android 8.1, unlike the 2017 models of the J5 and J7. Galaxy J3 (2017) inches closer to Android 8.0 Oreo update The Galaxy J5 (2017) and Galaxy J7 (2017) have been spotted on a benchmark site running Android 8.1, while the Wi-Fi certificate for the Galaxy J3 (2017) is for Android 8.0 . However, it shouldn't make for a difference in terms of the new features and improvements that come as part of Oreo, as Samsung usually implements changes from the latest version of the OS even if it doesn't bump up the version number. Of course, that will only b

Pokemon GO cheats face this tough new policy

Image
Ascending to the ranks of Pokemon Master is not an easy task. It's definitely not something for the faint of heart, but there are some Pokemon GO players … Continue reading #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

U.S. carriers to roll out Android 8.0 Oreo for Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) soon

Image
Samsung has already updated most of its flagships smartphones eligible for Android Oreo updates, and it has just started to provide similar updates to many of its mid-range handsets. The last year Galaxy J7 is likely to be among the phones that Samsung will update to Android 8.0 Oreo very soon, as a recent Wi-Fi Alliance listing suggests. The Galaxy J7 (2017) made its debut in the United States last year, but many carriers in the country have it on sale under different names. Even so, the model names of the smartphone are almost similar and they've all been spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Software support win? Galaxy Note 9 is already getting August security patch update

Image
The Galaxy Note 9 is no longer a secret, with a couple of leaked photos having revealed Samsung's upcoming flagship in the flesh. And, well, it seems like the first leak that came up, the one with a cracked Galaxy Note 9 in the frame , had another image that we missed . And, would you believe it, Samsung is already pushing the August 2018 security patch to the device with a software update. Galaxy Note 9 testing is likely in its final stages DJ Koh wasn't looking very happy when he was spotted using the Note 9 , so maybe the Note 9 development team is pushing out an update to fix whatever was bothering their CEO? That makes for interesting fiction, but the fact is that software updates are a general part of the development process for an upcoming device. After all, Samsung wouldn't want its employees and retail testers around the world to be downloading the complete firmware (which can be as big as 3GB) to the device every time there's a newer build ready for test

How to request and download your Instagram data report

Image
In response to huge Cambridge Analytica scandal, as well as to comply with the new European data privacy rules, Instagram started, not so long ago, rolling out a new tool that gives users access to all of their data. It's a convenient addition, especially since Instagram is notorious for making it very difficult to export data from the app. Users can't drag, tap or hold on images to save them. Yes, there's an option to "Save Original Photos" in a separate folder on your phone. But this isn't very helpful if you want to download the images you've posted in the past, before you decide to toggle on this feature. Anyway, the good news is that you can download all the info Instagram has collected on you. This includes your profile info, photos, videos, archived Stories, Likes, searches, settings and more. The feature should also prove useful for those who want to permanently delete their Instagram profile and move to another platform. This way they c

Apex Launcher updated for the first time in a year, and users are unhappy

Image
Back in the day, the three biggest launcher choices were Launcher Pro, Apex Launcher, and Nova Launcher. Those were the days where we would extensively modify our phones and Android was ugly and lacked features. Good times. Not too long ago Apex Launcher made a comeback with some updates. But we haven't seen any updates in a year, until today. Apex Launcher 4.0 has been released , and the changelog simply says "The long-awaited major update is finally here!" Users are pissed! There are a ton of new one-star reviews saying their settings and layouts were deleted (and this is a big deal for some, as they often take ages to set up right), features have been removed, bugs and crashes have been introduced, and there are even ads for different apps now in the launcher. Bugs and crashes can be fixed, and features can slowly be added. And we understand the need for ads. But to drop a bombshell like this, making the launcher so much worse than it used to be, is a bad s

Waze now compatible with Android Auto app on your phone

Image
Jul 20 AT 3:10 PM Dima Aryeh 0 Comments It was an exciting day for Waze users when the navigation app gained Android Auto head unit support. Though many people prefer Google Maps , more choice is always a good thing. However, the app wasn't available for those using Android Auto on their phone displays. The app works on a phone much like it does on a head unit, giving you a UI better suited for driving rather than just using it normally. Thankfully, Waze is now officially compatible with the app. If you use the app in your car, give Waze a shot! Via: Engadget Dima Aryeh is a Russian obsessed with all things car and tech. Top 10 Android Apps – Ringtones – July 2018

Image
Device customization is at the core of the Android experience, and one of the biggest ways to do that, a way that's been around since the days of feature phones, is custom ringtones. On Android, users are given near-complete freedom to set whatever sound bite they want as a ringtone, alarm tone, notification, or even a tone used with a certain app or assigned to a certain contact. The options, quite simply, are overwhelming. Thankfully, there are a number of apps in the Google Play Store that can help with that, and here are ten of the best. ZEDGE Ringtones & Wallpapers ZEDGE has been around quite some time, and in its current iteration, it really is the end-all, be-all of one-stop device customization. Options in this app aren't incredibly deep, but they're far more than numerous enough to make up for that. You'll find an absolutely massive database of sound bites of all sorts, including bits of music, to use as ringtones, alarms, notification sounds, or what
