Huawei Mate 20 brings 3D Live Object and 3D Live Emoji

Image
One of the highlights of Huawei's unveiling of its Mate 20 Pro is a new feature they're introducing called 3D Live Object. It may seem like a scene out of a sci-fi movie (or maybe even Black Mirror if you're freaked out by all of this) but this is apparently now possible in real life through Huawei's newest smartphone. They are also introducing the 3D Live Emoji which aims to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung's own 3D bitmojis but wants to take it a step further. There are already 3D Live Objects pre-loaded into the Mate 20 Pro when you buy it but what makes this feature more special is the fact that you can actually scan real-life objects. You can then later add them to videos that you take with your smartphone's camera and they will be able to interact with their environment. Huawei claims it's like bringing and object to life and making "fantasy a reality". VIDEO You will be able to control the 3D object with a digital

Google changing up the way its apps are distributed in the EU

Image
Back in July the European Commission fined Google €4.34 billion (yes that is meant to be a B) for "illegal practices regarding Android mobile devices to strengthen dominance of Google's search engine" and ordered them to change the way they distribute Android in the EU. OnePlus 5 and 5T get new OxygenOS update, Android Pie not ready for prime time

Image
OnePlus confirmed a long time ago that both the OnePlus 3 and 5 series will eventually receive Android Pie updates at some point, but never committed to a release timeline. Early this week, OnePlus' founder Pete Lau reaffirmed his company's dedication to bringing Android Pie to the OnePlus 3/3T and 5/5T smartphones but said engineers need more time to fine-tune the update. Since we don't expect Android Pie to hit any of the smartphones mentioned by Pete Lau anytime soon, let's take a look at what the most recent OxygenOS open beta update brings to the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Samsung Galaxy Watch gets a new update that improves charging and music playback

Image
Samsung's latest wearable, the Galaxy Watch , debuted alongside the Galaxy Note9 back in August. Today it's started to receive a new software update. This isn't a big one, nor does it bring with it new features. Instead, what it does is enhance the reliability of battery charging and improve the reliability of music playback. Additionally, the overall usability and experience have been improved as well, though there are no further details as to what that might entail. The update requires a 28MB download, and you can grab it through the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone that your watch is paired to. Once you install the new release, your Galaxy Watch will be on software version R800XXU1BRJ4 (for the 42mm device), or R810XXU1BRJ4 (for the 46mm model). At the moment, the update is rolling out in the US, and it should be making its way to other countries in the next few days and weeks. Pixel 3 AI mostly happens on the device only

Our smartphones have become a lot smarter, mostly thanks to the inclusion of artificial intelligence or AI in their software features. This AI trend, however, started back when even our powerful handhelds didn't have enough juice to perform all the processing and learning required to make these AI work. To some extent, they still aren't, at least on the learning … Continue reading #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Foldable tablets are coming: Lenovo to launch one with an LG-made display

Image
You might already be tired of reading rumors about foldable smartphones being imminent - after all, they've been in the news for years without one single such device actually shipping yet (or being announced). Well then, how about foldable tablets? Apparently those are going to exist too, at some point in the future. And the first one might be a Lenovo tablet, with an LG-made foldable screen. That is, if a new report from South Korea is to be believed. The Lenovo foldable tablet will have a 13" display when it's opened, and 8" to 9" when folded. It should be sold in China, at least at first. LG Display sees more opportunities in the foldable tablet market than in foldable smartphones, allegedly. That is because with a phone the screen is hidden when folded. But that downside turns into an advantage with tablets - they would be less bulky and easier to carry when folded. It is also easier to make durable panels for tablets, since phones need to be fold

Google Lens testing import feature to analyze any image on your phone

Image
Last month, our APK Insight of the Google app revealed that Google Lens was gaining the ability to import and visually search any image on your device. This evening, Google is beginning to roll out and test this feature. Since I/O 2018 in May, when real-time search and smart text selection was added, Google Lens has been on a roll. Several first-party camera apps have added a quick shortcut to launch Lens, while the Pixel 3 features real-time Lens detection in the Google Camera app. For some users this evening, opening Google Lens from Assistant or the dedicated app will yield a new icon either in top-left or top-right corner. Clicking will open your device's default Downloads app of File Picker to import any image into Google Lens for analysis. Once imported, Google Lens runs an identical scan, highlights the same areas of interest, and presents information as if you just snapped a live picture. While users could already analyze any image thanks to Lens integratio

YouTube TV Struggling Tonight!

Image
Sorry we're so late to this (blame the margaritas), but YouTube and YouTube TV have been having problems tonight. Both were down for a while at around 6PM Pacific. Services are coming back up now, though. YouTube appears to be fully restored, while YouTube TV is still having trouble. The "Home" screen on YouTube TV is broken and openly admitting that it is "having technical problems." It's bad enough that YouTube TV is referring you to the "Live" tab where content is still viewable. So if you are trying to watch opening night of the NBA and not whichever baseball game is happening, you'll find it in that tab. Google Will Charge Android OEMs for Its Apps in Europe to Comply with EU Regulations

Image
In July, the European Commission fined Google a whopping $5 billion for antitrust violations and for forcing Android OEMs to bundle its own suite of Google apps with Android. In response, Google has now decided to charge OEMs a licensing fee for its suite fo Android apps and services. The company has also appealed against the European Commission's ruling stating it cannot split Android, Chrome, and its Search app. Continue reading → #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

Upcoming iPad Pro shown inside a case, Face ID in tow

Image
Apple didn't introduce new tablets at its September event, but now it's widely rumored to be holding a separate get-together this month for just that purpose. We should thus finally see the much-leaked 2018 edition of the iPad Pro becoming official. The new 12.9-inch model is today being pictured with its rounded screen corners inside a UAG case, as you can see below. The bezels are very slim for a tablet, and there's no Home button anywhere. That was expected, however, as this device will have Face ID - the sensors for the system can be seen in the top bezel (which is the left one in this shot since the iPad is sitting in landscape orientation). A smaller 10.5-inch version should be unveiled alongside this 12.9-inch model. We've already seen CAD-based renders of the bigger variant last month. Both upcoming tablets should have Apple Pencil support, but the 3.5mm jack will be gone. Source #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #An

YouTube is down for everyone right now, including YouTube TV and YouTube Music

Image
Google's major video streaming platform, YouTube , is totally down right now. The home page on desktop is struggling to load anything, and while the mobile app seems like it's faring a little better at showing some videos, they totally error out when you actually try to watch them. Google's acknowledged the problem, although they haven't said what's causing the errors or when they'll be fixed. This is impacting all of YouTube's core services, including YouTube proper, YouTube TV , and YouTube Music. Google Play Music seems to be unaffected, and no other Google services seem to be down. I can't imagine Google will let this go on for so long, so keep an eye out for any updates. In the meantime, go try to be productive, I guess? I don't really remember what we did before YouTube, but if anyone remembers, let us know. Thanks for your reports about YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music access issues.
