Honor Magic 2 Review: 10 Things You Need to Know

Image
Our first glimpse of the Honor Magic 2 was back in August over at IFA 2018. Huawei's sub-brand teased the phone with super slim bezels, a Kirin 980 processor, and a slide-out selfie camera. We knew it was coming soon and as a video teaser showed, it arrived with a slider camera design. It was teased several times before the official launch a couple of months ago, making an impression with a total of six cameras and that slide-out mechanism as revealed by a teardown analysis. The Honor Magic 2 appeared almost two years after the first-gen Honor Magic was unveiled. If you may remember, that one was introduced by Huawei with artificial intelligence . We've got our hands-on feature and we thought it was impressive with AI and curved glass. The phone came with no camera bulge. As for the new-gen Honor Magic phone, this one was announced almost the same time as the Huawei Mate 20 series. We can agree this is the "future generation of flagship positioning", thank

The SQLite Magellan Bug, And Your App

Image
Recently, Tencent's Blade Team published some notes about a bug that they call Magellan. The underlying flaw is in SQLite and its handling of full-text search "shadow tables" (FTS3, FTS4, etc.). An attacker that can either execute arbitrary SQL or give you an arbitrary database to use might be able to write arbitrary content to files via this bug. If that "arbitrary content" represents executable code, the attacker might be able to execute it. Hence, this is characterized by Tencent as a remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability. Most Android apps should not be affected by this. Here are some categories of development techniques that might be at risk. You Execute Arbitrary SQL from Arbitrary Sources Many places are going to describe this as a Chromium (or Chrome) bug, rather than a SQLite bug. That is because Chromium offers WebSQL, allowing Web pages to create and manipulate relational databases on the client side… and Chromium's WebSQL is implemente

The wall clock finally gets an upgrade with the Amazon Echo Wall Clock

Image
Best answer: This wall clock is an understated and almost elegant timepiece that might not be as "smart" as the rest of the smart home tech we see, but what it does it does well: keep accurate time and display your Alexa timer. The automatic adjustment for Daylight Saving Time is almost worth $30 on its own, just so Grandma doesn't have to get on a stepstool to wind the clocks back. Amazon: Amazon Echo Wall Clock ($30) Time for a new era of wall clock I'll admit it: when I got out of college, I didn't think I needed a wall clock. After all, there are clocks on everything else in my home: my phones, my computers, my microwaves and ovens, my watches — both smart and traditional — and even the Chromecast's Daydream shows the time in the bottom corner. That said, I missed having a wall clock. Yeah, I can ask my Amazon Echo what the time is, or how much time is left on one of my many daily timers, but it's still not nearly as easy as being a

WhatsApp pushes out picture-in-picture mode to all Android users

Image
The first signs that WhatsApp is serious about bringing picture-in-picture mode to Android phones surfaced about two months ago when a beta version of the Android app included the fabled feature.  While iPhone users benefit from the PiP mode since the beginning of 2018, it looks like Android fans had to wait almost one year to get it. Oh, well, better late than never, so we're happy to report that if you run the latest version of WhatsApp on your Android phone, you'll be able to watch YouTube videos directly within the app. The same goes for Facebook and Instagram ... #Google #Android #Smartphones #OS #News @ndrdnws #ndrdnws #AndroidNews

The newest Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer is here with its greatest hits

Image
Want to know what's going on with Kingdom Hearts 3? Here's everything we know so far. In the early years of gaming, there were quite a few swings taken at the creation of a game utilizing Disney properties. Most of those games ranged anywhere from unplayable to mediocre as far as quality goes. Then in 2002, Square Enix released Kingdom Hearts onto the PlayStation 2. Disney fans and gamers rejoiced as they finally had a significant video game with Disney characters. Thus far, there have been a total of nine Kingdom Hearts games, and here in 2018, Square Enix stands poised to release a new entry to the gaming public. We have been hearing rumblings about Kingdom Hearts 3 for years now, but there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for fans of the series. As it stands now, we should see a release toward the end of 2018. However, what do we know about Kingdom Hearts 3 right now? Let's take a look. What's new with Kingdom Hearts 3? December 14 - Pre-Or

Apple getting sued over alleged false screen size and pixel count advertisement

Image
Before we get into things, we feel that we should preface this news by saying that when you're the likes of Apple, lawsuits are a pretty common occurrence and come in a wide scale of severity. This particular case seems to be airing more on the amusing side in terms of scope and potential repercussions. Still, given enough traction it could lead to some interesting changes in product marketing on a grander scale. A lawsuit was filed on Friday in the US District Court of Northern California by a couple of plaintiffs who accuse Apple of falsely advertising certain hardware aspects of the iPhone X , XS and XS Max (oddly not the iPhone XR ). The particular issues are related to advertising and specific specs for the notched Retina displays. And the two plaintiffs are hoping to reach class action status. We definitely urge you to go through the document for yourself, as if lays out an odd mixture of sometimes logical arguments, mixed in with some odd math and failure to ad

Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 (7486) review: Finally, a big Chromebook with good hardware

Image
For reasons unknown to me, most Chromebooks larger than 13 inches usually have extremely low-end hardware. The 14-inch Asus Chromebook C423 has a dreadful Intel Celeron N3350 processor, and the Acer Chromebook 15 has a slightly better Pentium N4200 CPU. If you've been waiting for a big Chromebook with decent hardware, Dell might have the laptop for you. The 'Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1' is pricier than most other large Chrome OS laptops, with an MSRP of $599, but it also has the hardware to justify that price — a latest-gen Intel Core i3 processor, a 14-inch 1080p IPS screen, 4GB of memory, and a backlit keyboard. Overall, the Inspiron Chromebook 14 is a great laptop, as long as you're okay with the extra heft. Design and hardware When I took the Inspiron Chromebook 14 out of its box, I was immediately surprised by how heavy it was. At nearly four pounds (1.81 kg), this is definitely not an ultrabook. It's heavier than the Google Pixelbook (2.4

Gboard beta brings new light and dark gradient themes

Image
Your smartphone's virtual keyboard is probably your most used app since most of the time you type on the different messaging and social apps that you use. One of the most popular third-party keyboard apps is Gboard as it offers a lot of features to make your typing life more exciting and even more functional. The latest beta version for the app is rolling out new gradient themes in both light and dark colors so your keyboard will look prettier or just plain nicer. The beta version 7.8.8 is introducing these new themes. There's nothing really extra special about them but the various gradient colors really look nice and at least you have a lot to choose from, depending on which are your favorite colors or what you're in the mood to see on your virtual keyboard. There are 25 Light gradient themes and 29 Dark gradient themes ranging from pink, blue, orange, yellow, purple, violet, and various other color combinations. The availability of these Gboard themes don'
