Samsung hopes to boost its smartphone business in China with 5G phones

Image
Samsung has been reduced to a fringe player in the Chinese smartphone market with the company's market share dropping below 1% in recent quarters. The scale of its decline in the world's largest smartphone market can be gauged from the fact that the Korean company once used to hold around 20% market share there. Samsung has vowed to improve its performance on many occasions in the past, but none of its efforts have yielded any noticeable results yet. In what appears to be a new strategy, the company is now pinning its hopes on a diverse lineup of localized 5G devices to improve its smartphone business in the country. The Korean tech giant recently launched the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G in the country. It is also expected to release the Galaxy Fold in 5G flavor sometime next month. The company's China-exclusive premium flip phone will reportedly come with 5G capabilities as well. There are apparently a few other 5G models scheduled to hit the Chinese market this year. &qu

Galaxy M30s review: Samsung’s new value-for-money champion

Image
Samsung's Galaxy M series of phones has been a major success in the Indian market. The Galaxy M20 turned out to be the most value-for-money budget phone from the Korean giant, an answer to the incredible value propositions offered by Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, and a giant battery (5,000 mAh) was one of the key features that set the Galaxy M20 apart. Later on, Samsung released the Galaxy M30, which brought a couple of upgrades, including a Super AMOLED display and an extra rear camera, over the Galaxy M20. Now, the Galaxy M30s has arrived as an upgraded Galaxy M30 , and Samsung has once again focused on battery capacity as one of the highlights. The Galaxy M30s has a 6,000 mAh battery under the hood, the biggest we've ever seen on any Galaxy phone, no matter which price segment it may fall in. The other notable feature on the M30s is a 48MP primary rear camera. That's nearly a 5x increase in the megapixel count over the M30 and higher than even the Galaxy A70. Th

Galaxy M10s goes official with AMOLED display, ultra-wide camera, $130 price tag

Samsung launched the Galaxy M30s in India today and took the chance to quickly unveil the Galaxy M10s as well. The Galaxy M10s brings a handful of upgrades over the Galaxy M10 and could even be considered a cheaper Galaxy M20 going by the spec sheet. It's priced at Rs. 8,999 (~$130) and will go on sale from September 29 from Amazon India and Samsung's official store, just like the Galaxy M30s. The Galaxy M10s has a 6.4-inch HD+ Infinity-U Super AMOLED display upfront with a waterdrop notch and is powered by the Exynos 7884B chipset. The M10 had the Exynos 7870 SoC, which was focused solely on efficiency, making the M10s' Exynos 7884B with its two high-performance Cortex-A73 cores a notable upgrade. The M10s has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with a microSD slot for expansion – no other memory configuration will be offered. The Galaxy M10s also gets a larger battery. It has a 4,000 mAh battery and comes with support for 15W fast charging. At the back of the phone, the

Specs comparison: Galaxy M30s vs. Galaxy M40

Image
The Galaxy M40 is currently Samsung's top-of-the-line M series model. It is, however, not the best device in the online-exclusive lineup as we noted in our review . The Korean company has made some weird component choices with the M40, making it objectively worse than some of the lower-priced models in certain aspects. The Galaxy M30 was already a better device than the M40 in some key areas, but with the launch of the Galaxy M30s , the positioning of the M40 looks even more unimpressive. As you can see in the comparison below, barring the speedier chipset and the resultant performance gains, the M40 doesn't really offer anything better than the M30s in terms of raw specs. Of course, Samsung would like you to believe the M40's punch-hole display is a major differentiating factor, but we doubt many customers would be willing to trade the M30s massive battery, Super AMOLED panel, or the higher-resolution primary camera for that. In our opinion, the only reasons why anyo

Specs comparison: Galaxy M30s vs. Galaxy M30

Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy M30s in India today. Going by the name, it is supposed to be an upgraded version of the existing M30, but how much of an improvement is it really? Well, when compared to the other recently-launched 's' variants , the M30s definitely brings a lot more upgrades to the table. As the spec comparison below shows, the Galaxy M30s boasts upgraded rear cameras, a massive 6,000mAh battery, and a faster Exynos 9611 SoC. It also runs a newer version of One UI and comes with a few extra software features (mainly in the camera department), as you'll find detailed in our soon-to-be-published review. The Galaxy M30 already comes with a large 5,000mAh battery, but Samsung is pushing the boundaries even further with the new model. In the all-important camera department, the M30s bumps the resolution of the primary rear camera to 48 MP and the neighboring ultrawide lens to 8 MP. Clearly, all of these are substantial improvements that make t

Galaxy M30s launched in India: Features, price, and release date

After numerous leaks and teasers , Samsung has finally announced the Galaxy M30s in India today. In line with the company's recent 's' models , the Galaxy M30s is an upgraded version of the existing M30. However, unlike its A series counterparts, the M30s offers more substantial upgrades over the original model. In fact, the changes are big enough to warrant a bump in the model number, but Samsung thought otherwise. Galaxy M30s specs include multiple improvements over Galaxy M30 Compared to the Galaxy M30, the M30s comes with updated rear cameras, a bigger 6,000mAh battery, a newer Exynos 9611 octa-core chipset, and more. The rest of the specs remain mostly unchanged, with a 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, 4/6GB RAM, 64/128GB storage, and 15W fast charging.
