Galaxy Note 9 S Pen To Have Gaming Features: Samsung Exec

The S Pen included with the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 will have a number of gaming features, Samsung's mobile chief DJ Koh said at a press conference earlier today. While speaking in Wuhan, China, the industry veteran reiterated the company's commitment to the Far Eastern country, a market it led just half a decade ago but one that has now pushed it to the brink of obscurity, according to numerous industry trackers. The comments were an indication that Samsung is preparing yet another localized version of one of its Android flagships, with recent reports indicating the Chinese variants of the Galaxy Note 9 may ship with as much as 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space.

While that same memory configuration and the 8GB/256GB one are also expected to debut in Samsung's home country of South Korea, they're unlikely to ever become available for purchase in the West, at least in any kind of official capacity. Mr. Koh didn't provide any clarification regarding the S Pen's gaming features, though reports about a significantly improved stylus being in the works for the Galaxy Note 9 have been circulating the industry for months now. The gadget will almost certainly have some kind of remote control capabilities powered by Bluetooth and possibly even increase the pressure sensitivity of the stylus that shipped with the Galaxy Note 8 and differentiated between 4,096 levels of force, as per numerous insiders.

The Galaxy Note 9 has already been the subject of dozens of in-depth leaks and reports in recent months, with the device being widely expected to be visually similar to its predecessor but debut with a number of software improvements, a better dual-camera setup, and newer chips – Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 and Samsung's Exynos 9810, depending on the market. The Android phablet is scheduled for an official unveiling in New York City on August 9 and is rumored to be released on August 24 following a short pre-order period. The handset is unlikely to be costlier than its predecessor which started at approximately $960.
