Samsung may merge Galaxy Note, Galaxy S Plus lines

Samsung is considering a plan that would merge the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S Plus lines into one high-end smartphone line. The two lines have featured overlapping specs for quite some time, and the company is looking for ways to stop the lines from cannibalizing each other's sales. With the similarities, the best option is to merge the lines into one.

The major difference between Galaxy S Plus devices and Galaxy Note devices is the S Pen, which is exclusive to the Note line. Size used to be a major differentiator, but that has become less of a difference in recent times as both device's displays are within .1-inches of one another.

The merger would not only reduce competition between the two different lines, but would reduce costs within Samsung. Additionally, it would open up a space for Samsung to create a new flagship line of foldable smartphones, as has been rumored.

The decision to merge the lines will be made after the launch of the Galaxy Note 9, so stay tuned for further news after that point.

Google’s December 2018 security patch includes much-needed RAM management fix

Every first Monday of the month, we're used to seeing Google launch security patches for its supported devices. This month is no different, as Google has released the December 2018 security patch. The patch not only fixes a bunch of security bugs, but also features the long awaited memory performance fixes. Android Pie has long been killing apps in the background (even if you were using them a second ago) and it's even affected devices other than Pixel /Nexus devices and we hope this fix will help. There are also some camera fixes for Pixel users included as well. Surprisingly, we're seeing the updates hit the Nexus 5X and 6P, both of which have reached their end of life. It's good to see Google support these old devices even when their three years are up and the company has no obligation to update them. December's software release is here.
