Facebook will merge with Instagram and WhatsApp, but not immediatelly

According to recent reports, the Facebook team is working to merge all its messaging services (Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram) into a single unified platform. But don't expect it to happen very soon: the company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has stated that the project will not apply until 2020 because there's a lot more the social media networks needs to figure out.

"The integration that we're thinking about, we're really early in thinking through this," Zuckerberg during the company's Q4 earnings call. While the CEO was unable to provide further details regarding the plan to allow Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp users to communicate on a single platform, he did, however, explain why the company intends to do so.

As the New York Times initially reported, end-to-end encryption plays an important role and Facebook wants secure messaging to be consistent across all three platforms. Zuckerberg has also provided some examples that motivate such a move, highlighting that many users complain of having to pass on too many platforms to message with their contacts.

More than anything, Facebook's goal would be to create a new ecosystem of instant messaging that could work just like Apple's iMessage, a service that works incredibly well and which many iPhone owners love.

Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. ARCore apps are now available for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China

Google's ARCore apps can now run on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in China. The apps are available in the Xiaomi App Store through a partnership with Google. A tweet from the Google AR & VR Twitter account announced the news today, although the exact ARCore apps that are now compatible with the Mi Mix 2S were not named. Google did say in the tweet that more partners for ARCore are coming soon. The Mi Mix 2S is the first phone from the manufacturer to support ARCore. Some OnePlus 6Ts have an issue with waves of static on the display

Based on a handful of reports on the OnePlus product forums, some 6T owners have run into a problem with their phone's display in which a pixelated sort of "wave" or pulse of bright colors travels up or down the screen. A reliable trigger can't seem to be found, but for those that are affected, it appears to happen more often on the lock screen while using either OnePlus' face recognition or the in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone.
