New OxygenOS Open Beta Updates Hit The OnePlus 5, 5T, 6 & 6T

OnePlus has started rolling out new OxygenOS Open Beta updates for the OnePlus 5, 5T, 6, and 6T. The OnePlus 5 and 5T are now receiving Open Beta 27 and 25, respectively, while the OnePlus 6 and 6T are getting Open Beta 13 and 5 updates, respectively.

OnePlus is not really adding any major features via these updates, or anything of the sort, but some changes are listed in the official changelog. Let's start with the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Both devices are essentially getting the same update, as you will get some gaming mode enhancements via these updates, while the OnePlus Clock app has also been updated. OnePlus is adding weather information for the world clock module, not the clock widget, despite what it says in the device changelog.

In the case of the OnePlus 6 and 6T, you will get some general bug fixes and improvements following this update, while any lag that was present while setting an alarm will not be there any longer. On top of that, the company improved its Phone app, as it improved stability for video calls.

As per usual, this update is rolling out over-the-air to those of you who have Open Beta software installed on your OnePlus 5, 5T, 6 or 6T device. If you do not, and would like to, you can get more info on how to install it from here, but we would not recommend it if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

There is always a chance that you will brick your phone in the process of getting beta software on your phone, or reverting back to the stable channel. All of these changes will arrive to the stable version of OxygenOS in the future as well, as per usual, so if you're already running a stable version of the OS, it may be best to stay on that course.

Android 9 Pie & OnePlus 7

All OnePlus-branded devices that we've mentioned in this article already run Android 9 Pie. The OnePlus 6T launched with Android 9 Pie back in October, while the other three devices received the update at some point between then and now.

The OnePlus 6 and 6T are the company's flagship units at the moment, well, the OnePlus 6T is, technically, but it's so similar to the OnePlus 6, that both are still considered to be the latest and greatest from the company. Both of those devices have received quite a few updates over the last couple of months, mostly improvements and optimizations, but OnePlus also introduced some new features as well.

The OnePlus 7 is the next step for OnePlus, and of course the company's upcoming 5G smartphone, whose prototype the company brought to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. That prototype included a 21:9 display aspect ratio, but reports are saying that the final product will not ship with such a tall display.

The OnePlus 7 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855, as will the company's 5G-enabled devices, those two will be completely different phones, by the way. The OnePlus 7 will not ship with wireless charging, OnePlus still doesn't think the tech is there to justify including wireless charging, it seems. The device is expected to arrive in May this year, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.
