PLAY CONSOLE What's new on Android • Android 12 Developer Preview: give your feedback to help us shape the final product. • Sleep API for Android: power features on your app when someone goes to sleep, is sleeping, or wakes up. ANDROID STUDIO Upcoming Google Play and Android deadlines March 2021: • If your app uses location in the background, start the approval process by completing the permissions declaration from the App content page (Policy > App content) in Google Play Console. • New apps submitted after April 16, 2020 need approval to access background location. Apps published before April 16, 2020 need approval by March 29, 2021. August 2021: • New apps must target at least Android 11 (API level 30). • New apps and games must publish with the Android App Bundle. • New apps using Play Billing must use Billing Library version 3 or newer. September 2021: • All apps must comply with the payments policy update. Google Maps tests directions screen with refreshed Material Design, rolls out For You tab to 130 countries - December 11, 2018 With every few updates, Google Maps seems to walk closer and closer to a full-fledged refresh of its Material interface, helping it go along with the new direction Google is taking this year with its app design language. We've seen a new look for the main interface , an updated side menu , overhauled hotel listings , new fonts in many places throughout the app, a persistent Overview/Reviews/Photos bar on some place listings, and even an update to the look of the app on Android Auto . But over the past couple of days, one more part of the app is getting its re-looking session: Directions. For the longest time now, Google Maps has had a blue background behind the from/to directions boxes. The new UI switches that to more white, with dark grey text and icons, and some blue accents for the selected mode of transportation and starting step-by-step guidance.
