Samsung Electronics announced on November 29 a detailed roadmap of actions with the objective of enhancing the Company’s long-term, sustainable value creation for shareholders.   Under the roadmap, which builds on the shareholder return program announced in October 2015, Samsung Electronics will further enhance its shareholder returns policy, capital management and the operation of the Board of Directors while also ensuring that the Company can continue to direct the required investment resources to compelling opportunities and to nurturing future growth drivers to the benefit of all of its stakeholders.   “We are committed to enhancing sustainable long-term value for our shareholders and to remaining good stewards of capital,” said Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics. “Today’s announcement extends the actions we initiated last year and represents the next phase in the evolution of our shareholder policy and governance.”   The details of the roadmap

The list of new functionality included in Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge seems to be a long one. There seem to be a lot of changes to the notification shade , and the latest Nougat beta brings with it the ability to add shortcuts to third-party app functions as toggles in the Quick Panel. For example, you can enable or disable background sync for your Twitter app, toggle offline mode in Spotify or Nearby mode in Google Maps, and so on. Android’s notification shade can be accessed from every screen, so the ability to have shortcuts to third-party app features in the Quick Panel should come in very handy (although we’re unsure just how many apps will be supported with this feature). As Samsung continues to roll out new beta builds of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge we continue to test them and find out what’s new. In the latest part of our What’s New With Nougat series we’re looking at a new feature that will allow you to save battery by putting apps to sleep. The way this works is very simple. Press and hold on an app icon and you will be presented with three options. If you choose “Put to sleep,” you will be notified that this action prevents the app from using the battery in the background. Sleeping apps will not receive updates or send notifications (which is something Android’s Force Stop option doesn’t do), but they will wake up when they’re launched so they will need to be put to sleep again as and when required. This feature will thus enable you to put some of the apps that you rarely use to sleep just so they don’t keep draining the battery in the background, you just need to launch them again like you normally would for them

With the Galaxy Note 7 no more, Samsung is putting all its might behind the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Three weeks ago, Samsung opened registrations  for the  Galaxy S7 and  S7 edge users to beta test Android 7.0 on their devices through its Galaxy Beta program . However, there were limited slots, and the registrations were closed soon after. Now, Samsung has reopened registrations in the UK. If you were one of those in the UK who missed out on registering your device the last time, now is the time to apply for beta testing once again. Samsung has also released three updates for beta testers so far to fix some bugs and to introduce new features. Moreover, as per Samsung’s email to one of our readers, the company will start the second phase of registrations later this week in the US. What is Samsung Electronics Supplier Code of Conduct?   To improve suppliers’ work environment, Samsung Electronics (Samsung) established a Supplier Code of Conduct based the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of Conduct and has gone on to share it with its suppliers.   In 2015, the company updated the Supplier Code of Conduct to cover provisions regarding the protection of migrant workers’ rights in accordance with revisions to the EICC Code of Conduct.   In addition, Samsung created a Supplier Code of Conduct Guide to provide all suppliers in a bid to help them comply with the Supplier Code of Conduct as they carry out law-abiding management practices. Two months ago a big US hedge fund called Elliott Associates proposed that Samsung Electronics – the crown jewel of the Samsung Group – should be split into two as it’s undervalued by as much as 70 percent due to the company’s “unnecessarily complex” corporate structure. The proposal calls for splitting Samsung Electronics into a holding company for ownership purposes and an operating company. It also called on the company to pay a one-time special dividend of $27 billion from its reserves, commit to dole out at least 75 percent of free cash as dividends going forward and even appoint some independent directors to the board. Samsung hasn’t really taken a stance on the hedge fund’s proposal, it has only said that it will “carefully consider” the proposal . Samsung’s board of directors will meet tomorrow and offer a formal response to Elliott’s proposal, according to a report published today by the Seoul Economic Daily . We will continue to hear conflicting reports about the Galaxy S8′s specifications until the handset is actually launched early next year so don’t completely put your faith in one such rumor or report just yet. We first reported exclusively about two months ago that Samsung is working on the Galaxy C7 Pro and the Galaxy C5 Pro . The Galaxy C7 Pro has now been spotted on Geekbench where it has revealed some specifications such as its Snapdragon 625 processor. The unit used for benchmark had Android 6.0.1 pre-installed and also touted 4G of RAM. The Galaxy C7 Pro is expected to feature a 5.7-inch full HD display as well. As per the benchmark result, the Galaxy C7 Pro posted a score of 1000 on the single-core test and 5679 on the multi-core test. It was put through its paces on the benchmarking website several times and the result was almost the same each time. From the looks of it this is going to be a decent mid-range smartphone that may also offer features like Samsung Pay given that the Galaxy C7 Pro is likely to feature NFC and a fingerprint sensor.
