NVIDIA's new Shield TV bundle throws in a Samsung SmartThings Link

Image
The whole smash costs $219, but we're already seeing it on sale. NVIDIA today announced a new bundle for Shield TV . Dubbed the Shield TV Smart Home Edition, you get a Shield TV (which is still an excellent option for cord-cutters and the only Android TV box we recommend ), the non-rechargeable voice remote, and a Samsung SmartThings Link — a USB fob that you'll plug into the back of your Shield TV to enable access to Samsung Smart Things. That gets you all the power of Smart Things living alongside Google Assistant, which is pretty cool. And you get it all for $219. (Actually, if you go the Best Buy route you'll save $20 .) Sprint, LG Vow To Launch America’s First 5G Phone In 2019

Image
Sprint and LG Electronics on Tuesday vowed to deliver America's first 5G smartphone, promising to launch such a device in the first half of 2019. Details on the device remain vague, though Sprint CTO John Saw said the product in question will be "beautifully designed" and deliver "dramatic" improvements in terms of gaming, productivity, and other applications. Dr. Saw already used the same descriptor while talking about the upcoming device as part of Sprint's second-quarter financials, though the company's Tuesday announcement remains significant in the context of confirming its 5G manufacturer partner of choice. No other details about the handset have been provided by either party and it's still unclear whether the 5G phone in question will launch as part of some established product family from LG. While the world's first 5G-ready handsets are all expected to be high-end devices, not all OEMs are eager to debut the new wireless technology wit

President Trump signs bill banning government use of ZTE and Huawei tech

Image
ZTE had a rough go of things at the beginning of 2018, and while Huawei was able to avoid the majority of ire from the United States government , it looks like it couldn't avoid it for long. President Trump has signed a bill, the Defense Authorization Act, that bans government officials from using ZTE and Huawei tech. This ban extends to government contractors as well and goes into effect over the next two years. The ban itself covers tech that is "essential" or "critical" from Huawei and ZTE in systems they are used in. That means that some components from both companies can still be used, but they are required to not have any access to data, whether it's viewing it or routing it. For its part, Huawei says this "random addition" to the larger defense bill is "ineffective, misguided, and unconstitutional". However, it does not appear that the company plans on fighting the bill. Google Duo 38 adds Material Theme, removes screen sharing & vibration toggle [APK Insight]

The latest version of Google Duo is rolling out this morning with a Material Theme that features a handful of tweaks to the video calling app's design. Meanwhile, a teardown reveals that screen sharing has been removed, while there are more rewards for Indian users. Nintendo Switch About APK Insight : In this 'APK Insight' post, we've decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we're able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We'll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they'll look in the case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.
