Fossil Sport smartwatch is now $178.50 in site-wide 30% off Black Friday sale

Image
It isn't easy to find a Wear OS device that is feature rich, affordable, and small enough to evade classification as a planet these days, but Fossil's new Sport smartwatch is certainly enticing. It's not too big (41 or 43mm case sizes), features the latest in wearable processing (Snapdragon Wear 3100), and covers all the standard bases (5 ATM water resistance, NFC, heart rate sensor) for $255. But in case you're thinking that's still a little bit pricey for what's on offer — you're probably right. But you're also in luck, because there's 30 percent off site-wide on Fossil products for Black Friday in the US, available immediately. The 30 percent off deal is advertised on Google Search but doesn't show up prominently on the site. In fact, you're going to need to use a specific coupon code to get the discount: BLKFRIDAY. Apply it during checkout and the Fossil Sport goes from $255 to $178.50. Unfortunately, the Black Silicone versi

Samsung Galaxy S10 may launch in four colors, including green

Image
While smartphone colors may not be as vibrant as they used to be, it's always nice to see some manufacturers offering up a variety of options. According to SamMobile , Samsung is planning on offering up some familiar colors with its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S10 . That includes black and white options, but then the company may venture out into more exciting waters and launch yellow and green variants as well. The report also hints that we could see at least one of these options be a gradient color scheme. Beyond that, the report echoes what we've heard in the past more than a few times. There will reportedly be three variants , with the cheapest option rocking 64GB of built-in storage. The other two high-end models will boast an in-display fingerprint reader. Model number SM-G973x will have a display that measures in at 5.8 inches, while model number SM-G975x will bump things up to 6.44 inches. The model equipped with 64GB of storage will have a 5.8-inch displa

LG’s Hybrid Wear OS Watch W7 Disaster Drops to $249.99 ($200 Off)

Image
The LG Watch W7 , a watch that sounded like an interesting idea on paper, but is one of the most baffling product releases in recent memory because of its obvious flaw, has been discounted by $200 at Best Buy to $249.99. Is that a deal? Honestly, I don't know, but it is a price drop! The W7, for those not familiar, is a hybrid Wear OS watch . LG's implementation of that idea was to create a Wear OS watch with mechanical hands that lay over the top of a round touch screen. Look at the picture above and tell me that doesn't look nice. It does! However, in use, those mechanical hands cover up incoming notifications and other information at almost all times , even though LG tried to work around this issue with a button press that shuffles the screen some. Watch faces also don't work great here, because they don't know what the hell to do with mechanical hands, so you get mechanical hands moving on top of digital hands. It's a disaster of an idea. Google releases Dart programming language version 2.1, teases Flutter 1.0

Image
Google has released a minor update to their Dart programming language, version 2.1, focused on improving its overall performance. These improvements have been promised to reach Flutter for its upcoming 1.0 release. Dart, one of a few programming languages developed by Google, was originally conceived as an alternative language for web developers to compete with JavaScript. While that plan didn't exactly succeed, Dart has found new life thanks to Flutter, Google's new cross-platform app development framework , which is still in the " release preview " stage. In August, Dart landed its major 2.0 update , which brought a whole host of improvements to the language, many of which were designed around accommodating Flutter and its users. Now Dart version 2.1 has hit release, showing further support for Flutter without leaving behind its web development roots. The main goal of Dart 2.1 was to improve performance, rather than add new features. Web developers wi

3 Months Of Amazon Music Unlimited & Echo Dot $1 - Amazon Black Friday 2018 Deals

Image
Amazon is offering a new deal for those that are interested in checking out Amazon's own music service. Right now, you can get three months of Amazon Music Unlimited, and you will also get an Echo Dot (third-generation) for just a buck. That's a pretty insane deal right there. Amazon Music Unlimited runs around $10 per month, and the Echo Dot is $50, so that's a savings of around $79. To get started on this deal, you will need to head to the landing page , then sign up for Amazon Music Unlimited (Note: that this is only available for new Music Unlimited subscribers, if you have signed up before - whether for a free trial or not - you are not eligible). Before you click the "Join Now" button, make sure to click on the "Enter Promo Code" text link that is below that button. There you can enter the promo code DOT1 and get your credit towards the Echo Dot. If you do not do that before joining, then you won't be able to get the Echo Dot for a buck.  After

More Rumored Details On Galaxy S10, Galaxy F Surface

Image
A new report from Sammobile , apparently from an inside source, has revealed a bit more information about the three Samsung Galaxy S10 variants, as well as a bit more information about the company's foldable Galaxy F. Among Galaxy S10 variants, perhaps the biggest news is that there will be a lower-end one that's meant to be entry-level. This lower-priced Galaxy S10 will ape one of the two premium models in that it will boast a 5.8-inch screen, but its storage options will be limited to 64GB internally, likely with a MicroSD slot, and it will not have an in-display fingerprint sensor. As for the Galaxy F, we're looking at a fully premium device to launch this new form factor, with storage at 512GB internal. Given the strange shape and unique qualities of the device, it's quite possible that normal Samsung features like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroSD slot could get the axe, but there's no confirmation of that just yet. A few new press renders of the LG Q9 pop up

Image
It looks like LG is prepping a G7 Fit doppelganger in the face of the LG Q9. Render by render the purported LG Q9 leaves no doubt that it is, in fact, a rebadged LG G7 Fit for select markets. The new set of renders don't show the rear of the device but show a good deal of the front and both sides. The LG Q9 will have a conventional metal frame with glass on both ends and three buttons on each side - volume and likely a power button (no Assistant button here). On the front the LG Q9 has a screen with a notch. If indeed the Q9 proves to be a G7 Fit in disguise then we can expect it to have a 6.1-inch IPS LCD of 1440x3120px resolution, while on the inside we may be looking at a Snapdragon 821, 4GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery and either 32GB or 64GB of storage. The LG Q9 will likely carry only two cameras - a 16MP on the rear and an 8MP on the front. All that remains is for LG to announce the Q9 and spill all the details like price and availability. Snapdragon 8150-Based Motorola Flagship “Odin” Due For 2019 Release

Image
Motorola , according to a report by XDA Developers, is working on a new flagship smartphone that will be released sometime in 2019. Unlike the last high-end smartphone from the company, the upcoming one is said to come powered by an unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 processor, which itself could be announced next month. The report further adds that the high-end device, codenamed Odin, includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage while currently being in its development phase and may launch with increased RAM and storage capacities to keep pace with the competition. Citing its sources, the publication informs that the handset will come preloaded with Android 9 Pie and it may also support the Moto Mods, which can later enable 5G connectivity for the North Americans. The alleged Motorola Odin flagship smartphone will reportedly support an upcoming 5G Moto Mod that will likely be using the Snapdragon X50 modem. The Moto Z3, announced earlier this year , is a Verizon-exclusive device

Instagram admits passwords of some users exposed as plaintext

Image
Facebook really can't keep their act (or a stronger word) together, whether it's with their own app or one of their properties. The "culprit" this time is Instagram as the photo and video sharing social network disclosed that a bug in their download tool has inadvertently exposed some of their users' passwords as plaintext and were temporarily stored on their servers. While they were able to fix this problem already, the damage, at least to their reputation, has already been done. A spokesperson from Instagram confirmed that their download tool, which lets users download all of their data, was affected by a bug which let their password be seen on a plaintext file. They clarified though that it only affected "a very small number of people". As soon as they detected the bug, they were able to fix it so that the downloadable file did not reflect the password anymore. They also clarified that all the password data of users are hashed and any of t

Ring Video Doorbell 2 review: worth the money?

Image
Smart home products are designed to make our lives easier. They can focus on health, self-improvement, making our lives a little bit easier, or safety. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is the latter– a safety device designed to help keep your family safe. After a month of using the device, I would definitely say that I feel safer in my home. First, let's get to the basics. What exactly is a Ring Video Doorbell? You may have overheard people talking about it or seen it on a store shelf, but what does it really do? Well, the function really is right in the name. Think of your doorbells of old and put a video camera on it. The device allows you to see who's at your door, whether they decide to ring the doorbell or not! And, the company saves video files of when the doorbell activates so you can see exactly what's going on the other side of your front door, whether you're there or not. When you pick up the Ring Video Doorbell 2, you get everything you need in the b

Google could shutdown Google News in Europe over Article 11 ‘link tax’

Image
In recent weeks, the European Union's Copyright Directive has come under immense online scrutiny, with Article 13 possibly resulting in YouTube blocking some videos in the continent. However, Article 11 — dubbed a "link tax" — has potentially equal ramifications, with Google News possibly shutting down as a result. In an interview with The Guardian this week, Google's vice president of news Richard Gingras discussed the impact Article 11 of the "Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market" would have on the company's services. The provision specifically targets Google News and other apps that use and include snippets of articles. Services often use the opening lines of a story, alongside the headline and image, to provide more context for readers. With Article 11, Google would have to pay publications every time this occurs. Akin to a paid license, this is a means of helping newspapers regain lost print revenue taken by digital a

Skype Now Available On Alexa Devices, Offers Free Calls

Image
Microsoft has announced that Skype calling is now available on Amazon Alexa devices. With the new feature, owners of Alexa-powered smart speakers may now call their loved ones, either through audio or video, using voice commands. To start taking advantage of this functionality, users must first open the Amazon Alexa app and proceed to the communications section of the app settings. In this section, users will find the settings for the Skype app where the user will sign in the same Microsoft account that they use on the service. The tech firm is also advising users to update their Skype apps to version 8.34 or newer for the best possible calling experience on Alexa devices. After the user has linked their Skype accounts with Amazon Alexa, users only need to mention the name of the person they want to call, as long as that person is already on their contacts list. Meanwhile, if the person they are calling is not yet on their contact list, people may read the phone number of the pe

[Update: Lowest price] The fastest microSD card you can buy for your smartphone or tablet is just $30

Image
With Black Friday looming on the horizon like the dark lord of some retail apocalypse (well, that's how we see it - we have to  write about it), you're going to see almost unending deals on external storage for your smartphone. And, sure, maybe if you don't care about how fast that card is because it's going in a smart TV box or just being used as a photo storage dump, a simple $10 microSD card can be just what you're looking for. But if you want the  best microSD card you can buy right now, there's actually only one obvious choice: SanDisk's new line of App Class 2 "Extreme" cards (we promise, this isn't an ad). SanDisk is the only card manufacturer currently producing microSD cards with the A2 certification, the highest performance the body defining SD card standards currently provides in contexts specific to smartphone and tablet use for applications. That is: these SanDisk cards provide the highest level of perf

The November OTA is finally rolling out to the first-gen Pixel and Pixel XL

Image
... Unlike most Android device makers, Google promises monthly updates for its Pixel smartphones. For the 2016 Pixels, that consisted of two years for system updates and another year of security OTAs. Owners of those phones were naturally concerned when the November security update never arrived while newer devices got quick OTAs . Well, now it has. We're getting reports of the OTA reaching phones right now, but you can also grab the files and sideload. There are system images, which you can install over anything but require an unlocked bootloader. The OTA files let you sideload the update as long as you're running the official software, and this works with an unlocked bootloader. Nite: both phones have general and Telus-only versions this month. There are no major changes in this update—it's a security patch, after all. Pixel owners seemed mostly bothered by the principle of the delay. Google promised updates, and there was no update. T

Bloodborne-Inspired Android ARPG Pascals Wager Gets New Trailer

Image
Upcoming action RPG Pascals Wager has gotten a new trailer, shown below. The game is not shy about aping its inspiration, being Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software's Demons Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne games, with most of the stylistic and gameplay influence appearing to draw from the latter. This is a very dark and gritty action game, judging from the trailer below, and it looks like the combat will make SoulsBorne fans feel right at home; it's fast, frantic and unforgiving. The game will be coming to Android eventually. No date was announced, but it may not be too long now; the game shown in the trailer looks to be pretty far along in development. Background:  The environment and storyline allude heavily to their inspiration. The ever-present fog and the light blooming off of it are taken straight from Demons Souls, and Bloodborne fans will recognize the dodge move that both featured playable characters can be seen performing in the trailer. Pascals Wager differs in more

OnePlus 6 gets a $100 price cut for Black Friday, from $429 starting tomorrow

Image
Despite the OnePlus 6T being the latest and greatest, the OnePlus 6 which launched earlier this year is still a pretty stellar smartphone. Now, for OnePlus Black Friday sales, the company is giving buyers a $100 discount to the already affordable device. The best gifts for Android users Where most "flagship" smartphones nowadays cost upwards of $800 or more, OnePlus has managed to keep prices under $600. The OnePlus 6 launched at a starting price of $529 and remains a solid deal down to today. Now that the OnePlus 6T is out, the company is likely trying to clear its warehouses of the previous phone, and with a $100 discount, I think it just may succeed. For a starting price of $429, the OnePlus 6 will offer a 6.28-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 845, 6GB/8GB of RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage, dual-cameras, a glass back, Android Pie, and more. There's even a headphone jack on this model as well as a rear fingerprint sensor. Of course, you'll mi
