Exclusive: Galaxy A42 to make 5G Samsung phones even cheaper in 2021

Image
Samsung's 5G ambitions are no secret . The Korean giant's first 5G phone was the Galaxy S10 5G, and Samsung followed it up with 5G models in the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy 20 lineups. Samsung has also introduced variants of the mid-range Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 that support the fifth generation standard for mobile networks in a bid to make the technology more affordable , and we have learned that the company could double down further on achieving that goal next year. Samsung has started development on what seems to be a 5G-enabled smartphone as part of its 2021 Galaxy A series. The device in question sports model number SM-A426B, and based on Samsung's current system for putting model numbers on phones, the SM-A426B should be the international variant of the Galaxy A42 5G. Galaxy A42 5G to lower the barrier of entry Interestingly, we can't find any evidence of a LTE-only Galaxy A42, which makes us think that Samsung could bring mid-range 5G phones to a wider audi

Here’s how to enable the camera’s Motion Photo feature on One UI 2.0/2.1

Image
Motion Photo is a camera feature that Samsung introduced to its phones back in 2016 with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Similar to Apple's Live Photos, Motion Photo captures a few seconds of video before you tap the shutter button to take a photo. It gives you the ability to see and save that moment in moving form and also lets you to "pinpoint which moment you want to preserve as the still frame", as Samsung puts it. Initially, the Motion Photo feature was hidden in the camera settings on all Galaxy devices, but Samsung relocated the toggle for enabling and disabling the feature with One UI 2.0 , leading some to think that it was removed. However, Motion Photo is still there: To enable it, you just have to hit its toggle in the camera viewfinder. It's the icon of a rectangle with a play button, right next to the button that lets you change the aspect ratio of your photos, as you can see in the screenshot below. While the method of toggling Motion Photo on a

Galaxy A50 starts getting July 2020 security update

Image
The July 2020 Android security update started hitting select variants of the Galaxy A50 . Identified by version number  A505FNXXU5BTF5, the new firmware update debuted in Portugal, though it has yet to expand to any other country. Samsung appears to have bundled the security patch with some unrelated changes, which can be inferred from the aforementioned package name. With that said, seeing how the company still hasn't released an official changelog, it remains to be seen whether those novelties include anything other than generic bug fixes, minor stability/performance improvements, or both. It's equally unclear how long the rollout will take to be completed, though Samsung's firmware deployment periods tend to span at least several weeks. Galaxy A50 getting more than just the latest security patch Galaxy A50 owners who still haven't received a notification prompting them to install the new update are able to attempt triggering the download manually by launching

Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition is coming soon to India

Image
Samsung had unveiled the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition and the Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition two weeks ago. Both the devices come in a purple finish and come with BTS-themed packaging and goodies. Now, the company has listed the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition on its Indian website. Samsung India has also tweeted that the BTS-themed Galaxy S20+ will land in India next month, and the pre-booking for the phone will start from July 1. The pricing and availability of the limited-edition phone haven't been revealed yet, but it is entirely possible that the device will be available from Samsung's online shop. It could also be slightly costlier than other color variants of the Galaxy S20+. The Galaxy S20+ is priced in India at INR 77,999. Currently, the phone is available in three colors—Cosmic Black, Cosmic Blue, and Cosmic Grey—and none of them are particularly flashy. So, the purple-colored Galaxy S20+ will certainly be a good addition to the lineup, especially for BTS fans in India (if any).

Samsung could report strong results for its chip business in Q2 2020

Image
Samsung's chip business has been its saving grace during the first quarter of this year , and it is likely to become a significant source for the company's revenue for Q2 2020 as well. Analysts are expecting improved earnings from the South Korean tech giant's chip business as more people have been studying and working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Market analysts are expecting Samsung to post KRW 50 trillion in sales and KRW 6 trillion in operating income. Despite falling smartphone and TV sales , analysts are expecting the company to post expectation-beating results due to a rise in memory chip prices as people are streaming media and making teleconferencing calls more than ever. The demand for memory chips as at an all-time peak from consumer products as well as servers and cloud infrastructure. Market Tracker DRAMeXchange reports that contract prices for 8Gb DDR4 DRAM rose for five months straight, from $2.84 in January 2020 to $3.31 in May 2020. So, analy

Galaxy M01s to feature a 4,000mAh battery

Image
We had exclusively reported last week that Samsung is developing an S-branded version of the Galaxy M01 with slightly better specifications. The phone could be launched as the Galaxy M01s , and it will feature 32GB of inbuilt storage space. It was also being expected that it could feature a more powerful processor and higher capacity battery than the Galaxy M01. However, it looks like Samsung is upgrading its battery. The Galaxy M01s passed through TÜV Rheinland's battery safety certification in Japan, revealing that it will feature a 3,900mAh battery, similar to the Galaxy M01. Samsung will market it as a 4,000mAh battery. The entry-level smartphone had also passed through the Wi-Fi certification process last month, revealing that it was running Android 9.0. However, knowing that the Galaxy M01 was launched recently with Android 10 out of the box, it is possible that Samsung will launch the Galaxy M01s with Android 10 and One UI 2 as well. The upcoming affordable smartphone

Stories of small business: resilience amid COVID-19

Image
As a former small business owner, I admire the many ways that an idea-turned-business can start: as a side hustle, a plan dreamed up at the kitchen table, or something passed down from generation to generation. But what I admire more is the ingenuity and resilience of small business owners who make it through all manner of crises, especially COVID-19. Seventy percent of small businesses say digital tools have been useful to them during the COVID crisis. Here are the stories of a few businesses from across the world who have made quick adjustments to keep their businesses running and how their digital presence helped them along the way: Watch Celsious' story Corinna and Theresa Williams are sisters who had an ambitious goal: to create a laundromat that made you actually  want to do your laundry. Together, they opened Celsious in Brooklyn, New York. Celsious is a light-filled laundromat with soaring ceilings, fast, eco-friendly machin
