Google Store and Google Fi discount Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL by $150 off

The latest Made by Google phones have seen a number of discounts since launch from Black Friday to the winter holidays. With 2019 well underway, both the Google Store and Google Fi are discounting the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL by $150 off.

Unlike previous offers, the Google Store does not appear to be advertising this discount yet (via AP). The only indication is how the starting price has been slashed from $799 to $649. The $150 discount is across all colors and storage capacities.

As such, the current pricing is:

  • Pixel 3 64GB: $649
  • Pixel 3 128GB: $749
  • Pixel 3 XL 64GB: $749
  • Pixel 3 XL 128GB $849

This sale is comparable to $150 off the smaller Pixel 3, but not as generous as $200 for the Pixel 3 XL on Black Friday. However, it is better than just $100 off the Pixel 3 in December.

Google Store Fi Pixel 3 discount

Meanwhile, this pricing is also live on the Google Fi Store. Applied instantly during checkout, device activation on the MVNO is required within 30 days. However, that is the only notable restriction:

There is no minimum activation period needed to be eligible for the discount. This offer is valid while supplies last and while terms are available on our site.

There is no end date, with Fi only noting "while supplies last." At the moment, it's unclear whether this a permeant price drop for the latest Made by Google phones, or just a temporary sale.

Apple is postponing new iOS features in favor of reliability and performance

Apple has decided to postpone new features in iOS in favor of improving the reliability and performance of the operating system, as according to a report by Axios. According to the report, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President, Software Engineering, announced the revised plan to employees at a meeting earlier this month. This pushes features like refresh of the homescreen and in-car user interface, improvements to core apps like Mail and camera experience to 2019. What we will get this year is improvements to AR, digital health and parental controls. Apart from that, the OS will largely feature improvements to performance and user experience. Google’s December 2018 security patch includes much-needed RAM management fix

Every first Monday of the month, we're used to seeing Google launch security patches for its supported devices. This month is no different, as Google has released the December 2018 security patch. The patch not only fixes a bunch of security bugs, but also features the long awaited memory performance fixes. Android Pie has long been killing apps in the background (even if you were using them a second ago) and it's even affected devices other than Pixel /Nexus devices and we hope this fix will help. There are also some camera fixes for Pixel users included as well. Surprisingly, we're seeing the updates hit the Nexus 5X and 6P, both of which have reached their end of life. It's good to see Google support these old devices even when their three years are up and the company has no obligation to update them. December's software release is here.
