Xperia XZ Premium and XZ1 family get July 2019 security patch (47.2.A.10.107)

A number of Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium owners have been wondering recently if their phones would receive any further updates. The last update arrived nearly two months ago in mid-June with build number 47.2.A.10.80. Well, Sony is indeed rolling out a new firmware update, moving the build number to version 47.2.A.10.107.

This latest update adds the 1 July 2019 Android security patch, it's not clear why Sony did not just add the August 2019 patches given the time it has been released, but we imagine Sony doesn't have too many more updates planned for these devices. Apple is postponing new iOS features in favor of reliability and performance

Apple has decided to postpone new features in iOS in favor of improving the reliability and performance of the operating system, as according to a report by Axios. According to the report, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President, Software Engineering, announced the revised plan to employees at a meeting earlier this month. This pushes features like refresh of the homescreen and in-car user interface, improvements to core apps like Mail and camera experience to 2019. What we will get this year is improvements to AR, digital health and parental controls. Apart from that, the OS will largely feature improvements to performance and user experience. We have seen Apple do this with macOS in the past, where they dedicate one entire update cycle to just refining the OS and make existing features work better.
