The best, worst, and weirdest cars at the 2018 New York Auto Show
The New York International Auto Show opens to the public this weekend, and upon entering the Javits Center attendees will be bombarded with new cars, SUVs, trucks and even a handful of supercars that will most likely be out their price range. Here's our primer for anyone who wants to cut through the noise and see the stuff that really matters. Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Most Futurama-ready car: Genesis Essentia Anyone who grew up on dog-eared copies of Popular Science probably assumed we'd be riding around in self-driving cars while viewing the passing scenery through glass or plastic bubble roofs. The self-driving car part is playing out right now, but the glass or plastic bubble part seems to have been left in the recycling bin. Now, here's the Genesis Essentia , an all-electric performance concept with a transparent hood and...
Samsung spent a lot of money to tell New York that the Galaxy S8 has arrived
It goes without saying that Samsung is going to spend a lot of money on marketing to get the word out that its new flagship smartphone is the one you should be buying this year. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at an event in New York City today. Since it was an invite-only event, although it was streamed live online, Samsung decided to spend a lot of money to tell New Yorkers that the Galaxy S8 has arrived. Samsung illuminated the iconic Times Square in New York City with immersive displays reflective of the visual experience that the Galaxy S8′s Infinity Display promises. It basically bought out almost every available signage to announce the arrival of its newest flagship smartphone. As if that wasn’t enough, it even brought in a troupe of performers who danced “in celebration of the debut of the Galaxy S8.” Good stuff. Customers in the United States can pre-order the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ from all major carriers today. The new flagship will be released on April ...
Supporting the military community for whatever’s next
In August 2018, Google made a commitment to veterans, military spouses, and service members transitioning to civilian careers. At that time, we announced a job search experience that uses military occupational specialty codes to connect service members and veterans with open jobs that call for skills developed during their time in service. In the months since, we've continued our work to make it even more useful for those who are searching for civilian jobs and the amazing people who support and guide them. People like Kristen Rheinlander, who works as the Transition Site Manager of the USO Pathfinder Program at Fort Hood, Texas. A self-described Army brat whose father served in the military for 25 years, Kristen came to the USO as a volunteer 4 years ago. Today, she heads up a team that works with service members and their families as they prepare for a new challenge: figuring out what comes next. Every new challenge has a first step, and for Kristen, it starts with ...
Google Pixel 3 / Pixel 3 XL case reviews: Because breaking an $800+ phone would really suck [Updated continuously]
If you thought the Pixel 2 and 2 XL were expensive, you probably weren't very happy when you saw the Pixel 3's $799 and Pixel 3 XL's $899 MSRPs. The Pixel 3 XL received a modest $50 jump in price from the 2 XL, but the Pixel 3 went up by a whopping $150 when compared to the Pixel 2. In other words, those who've purchased a new Pixel, regardless of the model, are probably going to want to protect it. Like last year's , this roundup will feature a wide variety of cases from several different manufacturers. For each case, we'll start off with some pros and cons and finish with a verdict on whether or not it should be considered. Screen protectors and any other pertinent accessories will also be featured. We plan to continuously update this post with new reviews as more cases come in. If there's a particular case you'd like to see reviewed, let us know in the comments section and we'll do our best to get one in for review. These...
