Here’s what happens when you drop a frozen Galaxy Note 7 from 100 feet

Image
When you’re considering picking up a new smartphone, it’s likely that you conduct a little research into its durability. This usually comes in the form of watching a few drop tests over on YouTube. Traditionally, these experiments are conducted from waist height while the handset is free from any protection. However, the folks over at GizmoSlip have decided to put the Galaxy Note 7 ‘s strength to the test in a slightly unconventional fashion. First, they submerged the device in a bowl of water and placed it in a freezer for twenty-three consecutive hours to test its IP68 rating , then, once the handset was completely frozen in the center of a bowl-shaped ice casing, they dropped it from the top of a building approximately 100-feet above ground. Much to our surprise, the device survived the encounter without a single scratch and functioned perfectly once powered on. Check it out below:

Samsung prepping to launch two new smartphones with model numbers SM-G5510 and SM-G5520

Image
Samsung is working on a couple of new smartphones, the SM-G5510 and the SM-G5520 . These smartphones haven’t been announced yet, but they have been spotted on GFXBench and Wi-Fi Alliance’s website. The SM-G5510 seems to be a successor to the Galaxy Grand On ( SM-G5500 ), and its specifications have been revealed on GFXBench. According to the listing, the device features a 4.8-inch (most probably a 5-inch one) HD display, a 12-megapixel primary camera with 1080p video recording, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The phone seems to be running Android 6.0.1 using the Snapdragon 425 octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage. Sadly, there’s no information about the specifications or design of the SM-G5520 as Wi-Fi certifications don’t reveal this information. However, we will report back whenever we stumble upon any new information about these new devices.

Galaxy S8 tipped to feature dual rear camera setup, 8 MP front camera

Image
The Galaxy Note 7 isn’t even available at retail in most markets around the world, but rumors about the Galaxy S8 are already starting to crop up. We have heard that the S8 could introduce a 4K display to Samsung’s smartphone lineup (whether this display will work in 4K mode at all times or only in particular cases remains to be seen), and our very own Weibo source (who runs SamMobile China ) is now claiming that Samsung is working on major changes in the camera department for its next flagship. The Galaxy S8 will supposedly come with dual cameras at the back, a move that Apple is expected to make with the upcoming iPhone 7. The primary camera will remain a 12-megapixel sensor as on current Galaxy flagships but will be accompanied by a 13 MP secondary sensor. For those unaware, a secondary sensor would help with better depth-of-field, or bokeh as it is commonly called, effects in photos. The front camera is also apparently getting an upgrade to an 8-megapixel camera – it would be gre

A quick look at the S View Stand Cover for the Galaxy Note 7

Image
S View Covers made their debut appearance when the Galaxy S4  hit the shelves back in March 2013, and it’s safe to say that during their three years on the market they’ve come a long way both in terms of design and functionality. Samsung took the wraps off its most advanced S View Cover to date at the Galaxy Note 7′s unveiling event back in August, and after having a little time to play around with the case, we’re pleased to report that this latest iteration doesn’t disappoint. Read More :  Hands-on with the Galaxy Note 7 Not only is it significantly thinner and constructed out of a more premium soft touch plastic than its predecessor, but the all-new  S View Stand Cover is also more practical. The inclusion of an integrated stand means that you can position your device at a 90-degree angle for media playback on a solid surface wherever you are without the need for additional accessories. To activate the stand, you simply fold the front of the case backwards, then rest the handse

Are you facing any of these issues with your Galaxy Note 7?

Image
The Galaxy Note 7 is undoubtedly one of the best smartphones that money can buy right now. It has received rave reviews ever since it came out two weeks ago and the vast majority of the people who picked one up appear to be satisfied with the handset. However, some users are facing problems with their Galaxy Note 7, problems that you would not expect from a handset that’s barely two weeks old. Threads have been started on various forums reporting that some users are experiencing bootloops, crashes and even complete bricking of the Galaxy Note 7 through no apparent fault of their own. PhoneArena shared an image of their office unit which appears to be having trouble booting up as well. We’ve also received reports from users who experienced similar problems. Those who are experiencing these issues say that the handset worked fine for the first couple of days and these problems emerged out of the blue. Apparently trying to reboot the phone into safe mood doesn’t work as well, wiping t

Samsung launches 14nm Exynos 7570 processor for entry-level devices

Samsung has unveiled the new Exynos 7570 chipset that’s made for entry-level smartphones and tablets as well as IoT devices. It is based on the company’s power-efficient 14nm FinFET fabrication technology for smaller size and better power efficiency. The South Korean electronics giant was the first company to release a smartphone SoC based on 14nm  FinFET technology ( Exynos 7420 ). The company later extended its 14nm SoC lineup by introducing Exynos 7870 for mid-range devices and Exynos 8890 for high-end devices. Now, with the introduction of Exynos 7570, Samsung’s complete Exynos lineup is based on 14nm technology. As for the Exynos 7570 itself, the chipset uses a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, which is said to offer 70 percent improved performance and 30 percent improvement in power efficiency when compared to 28nm based predecessor. The SoC also fully integrates Cat. 4 LTE 2CA modem, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio, and GPS. Ben K. Hur, Vice President of System LSI Marketing at Sa

Samsung demonstrates peak download speeds of 230 Mbps on the Galaxy Note 7 with Sprint

Samsung and Sprint have conducted a live demonstration of three-channel carrier aggregation out in the field. The demonstration was meant to show what’s next for Sprint’s LTE Plus Network which runs on Samsung’s network infrastructure technology. Peak download speeds of up to 230 Mbps were demonstrated on some of Samsung’s best devices including the Galaxy Note 7 , the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge . Carrier aggregation is a feature of LTE-Advanced which joins together bands of spectrum to create wider channels so that there is greater capacity and faster speeds on compatible devices. Basically, it creates a wider lane which enables more data traffic to travel at higher rates. Sprint has now deployed three-channel carrier aggregation on more than 500 cell sites in Chicago. Samsung’s three-channel carrier aggregation technology is powering the entire setup, it was delivered to Sprint’s existing LTE Plus network via a software upgrade. At the demonstration Samsung successfully show

The rumor mill is still not over the Galaxy Note 7 with 6GB RAM

Image
Soon after the Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled and it was confirmed that the handset does not have 6GB of RAM, it was reported multiple times that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 7 with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage in China. It was believed to offer this configuration only in China as most handsets from local manufacturers already offer 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. However, when the Galaxy Note 7 was officially launched in China last week it was confirmed that it too as the same 4GB RAM like all other variants. The rumor mill is still not over the possibility that a Galaxy Note 7 with 6GB RAM might be unveiled. An image of a purported Galaxy Note 7 box has been leaked online out of China on which the specs of this handset are listed. Sure enough, the specs mention 6GB RAM. This is obviously not a guarantee that the company is going to offer this configuration in China even though it just looks good on paper when compared to handsets from local devices. It’s not like there will be
