Here’s what happens when you drop a frozen Galaxy Note 7 from 100 feet

When you’re considering picking up a new smartphone, it’s likely that you conduct a little research into its durability. This usually comes in the form of watching a few drop tests over on YouTube. Traditionally, these experiments are conducted from waist height while the handset is free from any protection. However, the folks over at GizmoSlip have decided to put the Galaxy Note 7‘s strength to the test in a slightly unconventional fashion.

First, they submerged the device in a bowl of water and placed it in a freezer for twenty-three consecutive hours to test its IP68 rating, then, once the handset was completely frozen in the center of a bowl-shaped ice casing, they dropped it from the top of a building approximately 100-feet above ground. Much to our surprise, the device survived the encounter without a single scratch and functioned perfectly once powered on.

Google Play Points reward program is official, but only in Japan for now

... Earlier this month, Cody discovered evidence for a loyalty program  in a teardown of the Google Play app, and now we're seeing the first official word about it. The rewards scheme is called Play Points and has gone live in Japan, according to a support page for the app. Users can join the program by navigating to the 'Play Points' section in the app's hamburger menu. To begin with, one point will be awarded for every ¥100 (about $0.90) spent on apps and games — to be used on IAPs or converted to Google Play credit — but as you progress, higher levels can be achieved with even greater rewards. Samsung Display remains the leader in global display market

The latest data from IHS Markit shows that Samsung Display has retained its dominant position as the top global smartphone display vendor in the first quarter of this year. It was able to do that as more smartphone manufacturers opted for OLED panels for their premium devices. Samsung picked up the bulk of those orders. Samsung's display affiliate is estimated to have shipped $3.4 billion worth of smartphone displays in the first quarter ending March 2019. It accounted for 40.2 percent of the smartphone display market in this period. Samsung Display also accounted for 80 percent of OLED panel supplies. Samsung Display retains its leadership It's pertinent to mention here that Samsung's Q1 market share is 6.6 percentage points lower than it was in the same period last year. Brazilians love the Galaxy S10 a lot more than the Galaxy S9

Samsung has announced that Galaxy S10 sales are outperforming Galaxy S9 and S9+ sales by 80 percent in Brazil a month after launch. The Galaxy S10 lineup had received twice as many pre-orders as the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in the country , and it looks like things got even better once the devices went on sale. Samsung isn't breaking down numbers by device, however, so we don't know which of the three Galaxy S10s is doing the best. Of course, one can assume it's the Galaxy S10+ leading the charge, but there's no way to say for certain. One can hope the Galaxy S10e is also showing good sales performance, as it turned out to be a surprisingly good compact flagship that trumps the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9.
