No release date is yet known, but both devices will likely land in May. A month ago, we got wind that the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus was coming soon through a support page showing up on Samsung's Poland portal. Now, we have another leak that gives us pretty much everything we need to know about both the Samsung Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6 Plus devices. Editor's Pick What's the point of a mid-range Pixel? Samsung Turkey's Guncelmiyiz portal suggested last week that the update would appear around May 18, but this outlet often sees ETA amendments and the confirmation may not have inspired much hope at the time. Editor's Pick Samsung's first Android Go phone may have been spotted (or has it?) Phones powered by Android Go are slowly making their way around the world, bringing better performance compare

LG G6 ThinQ will feature a built-in ‘Boombox Speaker’

Image
Apr 30 AT 10:12 AM Evan Selleck 0 Comments We are only a couple of days away from LG officially announcing its newest flagship smartphone, the G7 ThinQ . But the company isn't quite done teasing some of the more noteworthy features of the handset. Over the weekend, the Life's Good crew sent out a press release teasing one of the features that the company hopes will make the G7 ThinQ stand out against the competition. It's called a "Boombox Speaker", and LG says it will make the smartphone up to ten times louder then the competition. LG also says the Boombox Speaker will "increase the base sound level by more than 6dB with twice the amount of bass". The BoomBox Speaker will amplify the bass even more when you set the G7 ThinQ down on a solid surface. The company was able to add this feature thanks to a special resonance chamber design. As you can see from the attached image, LG seems to be teasing that the feature wil

Poweramp v3 beta shows off a complete redesign of the classic music player

Image
... In the early days of Android, it was tough to find a good music player. Let's face facts—Android itself was pretty ugly, and developers didn't have the best tools. However, Poweramp offered a slick UI (for the time) and ample features. The app has fallen by the wayside over time, but there's a new beta build that gives Poweramp a much-needed fresh coat of paint. As you can probably tell from the screens, this app is totally redesigned. Check below for some screens from the current stable build, which hasn't seen a UI overhaul in years. In addition to a new look, the beta of Poweramp has more features. Here's the full changelog from the Poweramp forums. New UI New navigation: swipe or click album art to go to the current playing list as previously, swipe album art for the next/previous track, drag more for category change (applies also to the bottom miniplayer) Use bottom miniplayer to return to the main ui or to change

Some AI Assistants Narrowed Gap With Google Over 2017: Study

Image
Stone Temple Consulting Corporation has now released its 2018 intelligence ranking for the top five digital helpers, showing that the Google Assistant still has the lead but that the gap is closing. For clarity, the study actually considered the phone variation of Google's A.I. separately from its smart speaker-based technology , as well as testing Cortana, Alexa, and Siri – which ranked behind Google, in that order. So, it may be more accurate to say the company tested the top four. In any case, the test showed that each of the digital smart assistants grew better at answering questions compared to 2017. However, Alexa made the most progress in terms of recognizing and attempting answers at a growth rate of approximately 270-percent. Breaking down the results, Stone Temple delivered the findings of its study into two distinct categories. The first is how many questions were recognized and answers attempted. The second narrowed down to how many of those answers were accurate and

You can now ask Google Home to cast Starz to your TV, but still not Google Play Movies or Hulu

Image
One of our favorite features of Google Home is the ability to cast video content to your connected TV with just your voice. However, the functionality has been limited to just a few services. Slowly, it's been expanding, most recently with the arrival of Starz. The best gifts for Android users Pointed out today by Android Police , Google's latest addition to Home's casting feature is Starz. This arrives alongside big players like YouTube and Netflix, as well as The CW , HBO Now , CBS All Access , Viki, and YouTube TV . Starz subscribers can head into the Google Home app and link their accounts just like they would with apps like Netflix . Once linked, simply asking Google Home to play content that shows in the Starz app will start playback on the Chromecast-connected TV of your choice. 9to5Google's Take It's absolutely fantastic to see Google expanding this feature more and more, but it's still ridiculous what services still

5 reasons why the T-Mobile-Sprint merger might be great (and 5 reasons why it might not be)

Image
After years of starts and stops, the inevitable has finally happened: T-Mobile and Sprint have agreed to a friendly merger , joining two of the biggest names in wireless communication and creating a telecom giant that rivals the might of Verizon and AT&T. But just because T-Mobile issued an enthusiastic press release espousing the benefits of the $26 billion union doesn't mean the two companies' combined 125 million subscribers will immediately reap the spoils of victory. Here's what the mega-merger could mean for you and your favorite phone: Why the T-Mobile-Sprint merger might be great It'll boost coverage Obviously the main reason for this merger is network coverage. Wireless spectrum is a fairly finite thing, so consolidating two fairly small networks into one larger one will lead to stronger coverage in more areas. It won't happen overnight, but current subscribers of either company should see more bars (or dots for iPhone users) and fewer drops.
