Security researchers hijack celebrity Twitter accounts, and prove claimed fix failed

Image
Security researchers have hijacked a number of celebrity Twitter accounts – including that of Louis Theroux – to post unauthorized tweets. They have also demonstrated that Twitter's claimed fix for the problem didn't work … NordVPN Gizmodo reports that the researchers disclosed the method used, so that Twitter could fix it, but the vulnerability still exists despite the social media company claiming that it had closed the loophole. A Twitter spokesperson told reporters on Friday that it had "resolved a bug that allowed certain accounts with a connected UK phone number to be targeted by SMS spoofing." But during a conversation with Gizmodo, the hackers who posted the unauthorised tweets to celebrity accounts appeared to reproduce the experiment after Twitter made its claim. The vulnerability relates to a Twitter feature introduced at a time when smartphones were still relatively rare. In order to allow people to tweet from dumb p

Google, OnePlus & Nokia Are The Best At Updating Phones; But Still Don't Deliver Them Fast Enough

Image
AOSMark has compiled a list of the smartphone makers that update their phones the most, and at the top of the list is Google, OnePlus and Nokia (in that order). Of course, this should come as no surprise, given the fact that Google has always been first to update its smartphones with the latest version of Android - one of the main advantages to getting a Nexus, and now a Pixel smartphone. But OnePlus and Nokia have both really improved when it comes to updating their smartphones. Google has a score of 3.5, OnePlus with 2.75 and Nokia with 1.82. This means that Google will likely send out three to four OS updates in the lifespan of a phone. OnePlus is closer to three and Nokia closer to two. AOSMark only factors in operating system updates, when the phone changes its API level. So smaller bug fixing updates and security patches are not included here. It also does not factor in how long it takes companies to upgrade their smartphones. Though, the ones that do take longer are

Should you buy the Marshall Acton speaker?

Image
Best answer: While the original Marshall Acton was really good, it's worth going for the latest model for the latest in sound quality, technology, and features. Amazon: Marshall Acton II Voice w/ Alexa ($300) Acton II Voice is everything the original should have been Marshall is one of the music industry's most enduring brands, providing rock bands and pop stars with quality guitar amps and other music equipment. The Marshall of today still likes doing that stuff, but it's also trying to tap into the consumer electronics market. The most approachable device in that lineup is the Marshall Acton Bluetooth Speaker. It's the smallest in the group at 10 inches wide, 6 inches deep, and towering out at just 5.91 inches. It'll fit on a desk or other entertainment center just fine. It's also light enough to take just about anywhere, coming in at just under five pounds, although this isn't a truly portable speaker since it doesn't u

Google Duo group calling sneak peek revealed, low light mode also in testing

Image
Google's work in messaging services has resulted mostly in a lot of headaches, but one major success for the company has been its video calling app Duo. Now, we're getting a first look at Google Duo group calls as well as a new low light mode. The best gifts for Android users In past teardowns of Google Duo, we've been able to spot both of these upcoming features. Bits of group calling first showed up in Google Duo all the way back in March with low light mode making its debut in November . Today, though, Android Police has managed to get their hands on screenshots, presumably from an unreleased version of Duo, which show off what these new features look like. Starting off with Google Duo group calling, it appears the feature will support up to 8 people at once (7 guests and yourself). An option to "Create a Group" allows users to select the participants and even name the group. It appears that, once the call has started, new

While waiting for that mysterious "next mobile product" from Andy Rubin's Essential company, some of you might be interested in buying one of the first handsets with a notch at the eleventh hour. Unfortunately, the Essential Phone is listed as "out of stock" on its manufacturer's official website, where no new inventory will ever be added, according to company statements. The unlocked mobile device has also vanished from Best Buy, while a couple of third-party Amazon sellers are currently charging around $430 a pop, which hardly feels like a bargain. New Moto G7 Case Leaks Shows A Very 2018-ish Smartphone, Destined For 2019 Release

Image
Motorola is expected to release the Moto G7 in April of 2019, but leaks are already piling up for the new device. There have been numerous leaks already about the Moto G7, and now there is a new one from a case maker that essentially confirms everything we've already seen. The image, above, shows that the Moto G7 is going to sport water-droplet notch on the front, with somewhat thick bezels, but it is also going to have USB-C for charging and a headphone jack. It also shows a dual-camera setup on the back with dual-LED flash as well. There's nothing really new here, which isn't surprising, since we are still about four months from release of the Moto G7 at this point. Case Makers Usually Work off of a Rendered Image Case makers are usually given the dimensions of the phone months ahead of its release. This is so that when the phone is released, there are a number of cases available already for the phone. So that those buying it can keep their phone protected from day

Vote for your favourite Sony Xperia of 2018

Image
We are at the end of 2018 and there's no denying it's been a challenging year for Sony Xperia fans. Sony Mobile finally changed its design that much of the media were after, but after initially being excited about the prospects of carrying its existing design language into narrower bezels, what we instead got was a design that, while comfortable in the hand, left a lot to be desired in looks. In making their phones more 'modern', the phones lost much of what made them attractive to fans in the first place. The Xperia phone's identity became lost in sea of ubiquitous looking smartphones. Thank goodness Sony didn't adopt a notch, but they did get rid of the headphone jack, which for a company that prides itself on audio – and all of the heritage that comes with it – was a backwards move. It was therefore perhaps no surprise therefore, to see Sony Mobile fall further behind, and the recent financial reports paint a bleak picture. Sales this year were the lowest

OxygenOS 9.0.3 Brings A Lot Of Various Improvements To The OnePlus 6

Image
OnePlus has been on a roll when it comes to releasing updates for its devices, the OnePlus 6T had released quite a few stable updates in the last couple of weeks, the OnePlus 6 and 6T have received several OxygenOS Open Beta updates lately, Android 9 Pie stable update started rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and 5T quite recently as well, and now a new stable update has landed on the OnePlus 6. This new update is marked as OxygenOS 9.0.3 , and it brings a ton of improvements to the OnePlus 6, which is technically no longer the company's flagship, but it's not far from it either, as it's pretty much on the same level as the OnePlus 6T, at least in our opinion. In any case, this new update also brings a new feature or two, along with all those improvements, so let's see what's new in that regard first, shall we. Once you install this update, you'll get an audio tuner for Bluetooth earphones, which is something users have been waiting for, ever since it arrived to

Google Removes Key Android One Feature From Its Site, Denies Any Changes Coming

Image
Google has removed a portion of text from its Android One webpage , which stated that those devices would get two years of updates, guaranteed. This was a big selling point for any Android One smartphone, and thus prompted a number of people to inquire about it, as to why this was removed. Google has stated that nothing has changed, and that it sees no changes for Android One coming. Also reiterating that Android One devices will continue to get two years of updates from Google and its manufacturing partners. Two years of updates is still not a whole lot, especially when Apple is updating iPhones that are close to five years old at this point. But it is more than most Android OEMs are doing currently. Software Updates Are The Main Selling Point of Android One With Android One, the main selling point here is the consistent software updates. With many smartphone manufacturers taking their sweet time to get the latest version of Android rolled out to their devices, Android One was a
