Gionee Marathon M5 Plus to be unveiled next month

Nearly six months after the Gionee Marathon M5 was unveiled, a Plus variant of the smartphone will be made official. According to a teaser (shown below) posted by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, the unveiling is set for December 21 in the country. Unfortunately, apart from the name and the date of unveiling, nothing else is known about this new variant at this point in time. So, it's currently difficult to say how exactly it will be different from the M5, which is was recently launched outside China. For those who aren't already aware, the Marathon M5 is powered by a MediaTek MT6735 SoC with quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, and sports a 5.5 inch (720 x 1280 pixel resolution) AMOLED display. The Google Pixel 3 XL Teardown by iFixit we featured yesterday revealed the bigger variant offers a whole lot of glue and is a bit challenging to disassemble and repair. We were surprised by the AMOLED screen as it was made by Samsung–one of its biggest rivals. The smartphone isn't exactly our top choice right now but the premium flagship has potential. Chrome OS Settings and Shortcuts to appear in launcher alongside Android apps

Samsung and SK Telecom link 4G and 5G networks for the first time

Samsung has teamed up with South Korea’s major mobile carrier SK Telecom to demonstrate the communication between 4G and 5G networks for the first time in the industry. Samsung has said that the demonstration went off without any disruptions and that clear streaming was enabled between the two networks. The two companies were successful in linking the long-term evolution network that uses the 2.6 GHz frequency band with the 5G network that uses the 28 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequency band. This will pave the way for 4G and 5G users to communicate even when there’s no nationwide 5G infrastructure. “Along with the 5G network’s 3.5 GHz frequency band that provides a wider coverage, and the 28 GHz frequency band that enables ultrahigh-speed transmission, the connection with the 4G network will help users enjoy the best communications services anywhere without disruptions,” said SK Telecom.
