Google launches a beta of Neighbourly, an app for crowdsourcing local questions

Google is taking another shot at social apps with the beta release of Neighbourly, a new, hyperlocal-focused app designed to answer your questions, via The Next Web.

The company envisions Neighbourly as a sort of crowdsourced city guide. The residents who know your city best can use the app to share tips, tricks, shortcuts, and recommendations with less in-the-know residents.

Users will be able to ask questions, submit answers, and follow other people's questions if they're interested to see the results through a simple stack of cards. According to The Next Web, Neighbourly is starting off with a limited beta. It's only available on Android and only open to residents of Mumbai, with support for English and eight Indian languages.

In practice, it looks a lot like a Google version of Nextdoor, a similar local social media network you can use to talk to people near you and broadcast your thoughts to friends and colleagues around the world.

Neighbourly is available now on the Android app store. Presumably, Google will expand it to other neighborhoods and cities soon.

Sony Announces Smaller Digital Paper E-Ink Writing Tablet

Sony has now announced a smaller follow-up to last year's Digital Paper E-ink writing tablet, the DPT-RP1. That's according to a new announcement made today via Sony's official blog. The new tablet – also dubbed with Digital Paper branding but sold under the model number DPT-CP1 – seems to be the same basic design as the previous model. However, while that earlier device was sized as close as possible to A4 paper with a 13.3-inch display, the new model drops to A5 with a 10.3-inch display. That should make its use much easier under a wider number of circumstances since it will arguably be easier to hold in one hand while writing with the other.  However, there will certainly be other benefits as well. Samsung to build a P3 ‘total semiconductor factory’ in Pyeongtaek by 2021

It hasn't been long since Samsung completed the construction of its P2 semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, but now, the company is preparing to build its 3rd 'P3' semiconductor factory in the same city in the Gyeonggi Province. According to reports from the local media , Samsung wants to start constructing the P3 plant in September and make it fully operational by the end of 2021. The P3 plant will reportedly be 300 meters longer than the existing P2 plant, topping a total of 700 meters in length. Constructing the building itself should take roughly a year, and a few additional months will be needed to install the necessary equipment and ready it for mass production. Motorola 's Pronto Suite of applications is going to be used by the States of Jersey Police, proposed as a forward-moving effort to transition from using methods for simpler tasks that could be completed more efficiently in the field by using digital resources instead of using paper. Examples of tasks that could be completed with some of the apps in the Pronto Suite are things like taking down statements or handing out penalty notices. The idea behind getting on board with the Pronto Suite is to save time for officers in the field and help streamline things. The suite will include things like the Pronto OTA server for storage management, the Pronto Hub Server, and the Pronto Web Manager to view captured data.
