Galaxy A71 confirmed to have 4,500 mAh battery

It seems none of the 2020 Galaxy A series phones will bring battery capacity upgrades over their 2019 predecessors. The Galaxy A51 has been rumored to have a 4,000 mAh battery, the same as the Galaxy A50 and the Galaxy A50s. It has now been confirmed that the Galaxy A71 has a 4,500 mAh battery like the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A70s, thanks to a photo of the phone's battery published on South Korean certification portal Safety Korea.

A 4,500 mAh battery is plenty big enough for a mid-range phone, so it's not something we will hold against the Galaxy A71. It helps when you also have fast charging – the Galaxy A70 was Samsung's first commercial phone to come with 25W fast charging support, and the same can be expected on the Galaxy A71. 45W charging probably won't make the cut and only be seen on the Galaxy A91, although Samsung is welcome to surprise us.

The battery capacity is not the only aspect of the Galaxy A70 that won't be getting an upgrade with the A71. It will also have the same underlying chipset (a Snapdragon 675), RAM (6GB), storage (128GB) and display size (6.7 inches). However, as leaked CAD renders of the phone revealed yesterday, the A71's 6.7-inch display will have a centered punch-hole for the front camera, like the Galaxy Note 10, and a fourth rear camera like the Galaxy A51.

There's been no indication that the Galaxy A71 will launch soon. Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy A51 later this year, alongside Lite variants of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10, but the rest of its upcoming handsets are likely to stay under wraps until 2020.
