Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post fame is also the founder of Thrive Global, a company that’s focused on wellness. The company has launched a new app called Thrive. The app is going to help you disconnect from your smartphone and reconnect with your life. Seems a bit ironic that you need an app to disconnect from your smartphone, but hey, that’s the world we live in now. “The Thrive App is part of a movement to help people take a break from technology to reconnect in deeper ways with themselves, their family and friends, and the world around them,” Huffington writes. Arianna Huffington’s Samsung App The app can be used to put your handset in “Thrive Mode.” It will mute all notifications, calls and texts except from the people that have been specified in the VIP list. When you’re in Thrive Mode, incoming texts will automatically be responded with a message that the user is in Thrive Mode. So basically, Thrive is an app version of the Do Not Disturb button on Samsung device

Simband isn’t dead—its technology could be coming to a device near you soon

Samsung unveiled the Simband , a reference wearable that manufacturers could experiment with, back in 2014. The unit was packed full of sensors that tracked blood pressure, skin temperature, sweat production, blood volume, heart rate and more, leading many to believe that it would be released once the Apple Watch, which was rumored to be a revolutionary health device, hit the shelves—but that wasn’t the case. The firm actually had no intention of launching the Simband on the open market. It was made exclusively for developers, something that became evident when it took the wraps off the Galaxy Gear 2 . Naturally, we assumed Samsung had retired the Simband in favor of its Galaxy Gear line; however, new information suggests it’s still very much alive, and some of its technology could even make its way into upcoming products. 2015 Samsung merger ruled valid by Seoul court

Image
Ilsung Pharmaceutical had filed a case to have the 2015 Samsung merger nullified. The Seoul Central District Court dismissed the case today. Ilsung had a 2.11 percent stake in Samsung C&T before the merger. The local pharmaceutical claimed that the merger with Cheil Industries was “unfair” to shareholders. The court ruled today that no illegality was found during the merger process, thus no ground existed to declare the merger as null and void. “It is also hard to conclude that the share swap ratio was unfavorable to shareholders, and even if it was somewhat unfavorable to shareholders, it cannot be viewed that (the ratio) was significantly unfair,” the court added. 2015 Samsung Merger The 2015 Samsung merger has come under scrutiny over the past year. Even activist hedge fund Elliott Associates claimed that the merger of Samsung C&T and Cheil Industries was to help Samsung’s founding Lee family to consolidate its power over Samsung Electronics – the crown jewel of the Sam

Samsung’s new Secure Element will help manufacturers develop safer IoT systems

Image
Samsung has taken the wraps off a new integrated Secure Element (SE) turn-key solution for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The SE, which is on display at the firm’s Developer Conference in San Francisco, will help chip manufacturers employ reliable safety features, and bring innovative products and services to the market faster. For those interested in the technical details, the SE is the first 45-nanometer (nm) chip to adopt embedded flash (eFlash), a feature that dramatically decreases data processing time and allows for more flexible software modifications compared to traditional EEPROMs. But there’s even more to the SE. The SE is a lot smarter than you’d expect. To prevent hackers from infiltrating the SE to gain control of a system, it automatically monitors processes. If the SE happens to detect abnormal activity, it instantly resets itself, thus protecting all sensitive data store on board the Security IC (integrated circuit). SE is another demonstration of Samsung’s adva

UK Safety Research Assures Samsung’s Refrigerators are ‘Reliable’

Samsung’s refrigerators have been recognized by the UK consumer watchdog Which? , in a study that examined the fire safety in the major brands’ refrigerators. All Samsung fridges that are sold in the UK have metal backs, which are better protected against fires than those with flammable plastic backs.     In the recent London Grenfell Tower tragedy that left about 80 people dead, it is said that the fire started in a faulty fridge-freezer, igniting refrigerator safety concerns. This incident raised awareness of home appliance safety and Which? Magazine, which was started to protect consumers, carried out a fire safety test on freezers and fridge-freezers made by major brands and sold in the UK market.
