Samsung’s new Secure Element will help manufacturers develop safer IoT systems

Samsung has taken the wraps off a new integrated Secure Element (SE) turn-key solution for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The SE, which is on display at the firm’s Developer Conference in San Francisco, will help chip manufacturers employ reliable safety features, and bring innovative products and services to the market faster.

For those interested in the technical details, the SE is the first 45-nanometer (nm) chip to adopt embedded flash (eFlash), a feature that dramatically decreases data processing time and allows for more flexible software modifications compared to traditional EEPROMs. But there’s even more to the SE.

The SE is a lot smarter than you’d expect. To prevent hackers from infiltrating the SE to gain control of a system, it automatically monitors processes. If the SE happens to detect abnormal activity, it instantly resets itself, thus protecting all sensitive data store on board the Security IC (integrated circuit).

SE is another demonstration of Samsung’s advanced security technology

“Samsung’s Secure Element solution is another demonstration of our advanced security technology that has been proven through mobile application processors (AP), smart card ICs and other semiconductor products, said Ben K. Hur, Vice President of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics.
