UK Safety Research Assures Samsung’s Refrigerators are ‘Reliable’

Samsung’s refrigerators have been recognized by the UK consumer watchdog Which?, in a study that examined the fire safety in the major brands’ refrigerators. All Samsung fridges that are sold in the UK have metal backs, which are better protected against fires than those with flammable plastic backs.

In the recent London Grenfell Tower tragedy that left about 80 people dead, it is said that the fire started in a faulty fridge-freezer, igniting refrigerator safety concerns. This incident raised awareness of home appliance safety and Which? Magazine, which was started to protect consumers, carried out a fire safety test on freezers and fridge-freezers made by major brands and sold in the UK market. It found that all the models by Samsung passed the test with flying colors. The magazine reported that 46% of the 500 products had flammable plastic backs, while Samsung products have fully protected metal backs.

Which? Magazine said, “Flammable plastic backs on refrigerators are unlikely to be the direct cause of a fire, but they can help flames to spread more rapidly,” and asked refrigerator makers to comply with more rigorous safety standards for fridges and freezers. It is likely that the overall safety standards for home appliance products will become even stricter as a result.

Samsung Electronics has put consumer safety as the top priority for all of its home appliance products, including fridges and freezers, taking extra steps to make sure quality and safety standards are met. As a leading player, the company evaluates the degree of prevention of the fire spread by considering the worst conditions for parts such as defrost heater and compressor. In order to prevent spreading of fire generated from outside, Samsung uses the back material as steel to ensure higher safety. Samsung’s innovative technology also plays a significant role in upgrading its safety standards. These efforts have paid off, as Samsung’s refrigerators were recognized as one of the safest products by Which? Magazine through the safety examination.

It is also time for consumers to be more careful. It is necessary for customers to choose a product carefully by thoroughly checking its materials and making sure safety standards are met. Samsung Electronics continues to raise the bar for the safety standards of home appliances to build trust and credibility with its consumers.
