UK Safety Research Assures Samsung’s Refrigerators are ‘Reliable’
Samsung’s refrigerators have been recognized by the UK consumer watchdog Which?, in a study that examined the fire safety in the major brands’ refrigerators. All Samsung fridges that are sold in the UK have metal backs, which are better protected against fires than those with flammable plastic backs.
In the recent London Grenfell Tower tragedy that left about 80 people dead, it is said that the fire started in a faulty fridge-freezer, igniting refrigerator safety concerns. Which? Magazine said, “Flammable plastic backs on refrigerators are unlikely to be the direct cause of a fire, but they can help flames to spread more rapidly,” and asked refrigerator makers to comply with more rigorous safety standards for fridges and freezers. It is likely that the overall safety standards for home appliance products will become even stricter as a result.
